Daniel Lewis Lee execution, yea or nay?

IMO he lived longer than he should, tasered, shot, heads sealed in plastic bags, weighted down, thrown in water. One was 8 year old girl. 6 months later he killed an 80 year old woman. I read somewhere a poster called it a late term abortion.

I loved him in There Will be Blood.

by Anonymousreply 1July 14, 2020 6:17 PM

Against the death penalty. It doesn't solve anything. Lock them up for life, it's cheaper in the long run because of death penalty appeals costing so much in legal fees paid for by the state.

by Anonymousreply 2July 14, 2020 6:22 PM

[R2], you might change your mind if he'd done this to a spouse, sibling, child, or parent of yours.

by Anonymousreply 3July 14, 2020 6:29 PM

Nay. It's barbaric and wrong for a state to kill its own citizens.

by Anonymousreply 4July 14, 2020 6:45 PM

Perhaps, R2, However I have seen many victims' families ask that the DP not be pursued. They are the smart ones who save themselves from a great deal more heartache and grief.

by Anonymousreply 5July 14, 2020 6:46 PM

R3 The families left behind by the mass killer here in Norway want him locked up for life. So far not one single person has sad they want him murdered. Thank god I live in a civilized country where death penalty is banned so it's not an option anyway.

Let's just say if the death penalty is legal he is the poster child. Bye Bye.

by Anonymousreply 8July 14, 2020 9:37 PM

He should be fed into a meat grinder feet first.

by Anonymousreply 9July 14, 2020 9:47 PM

He should be fed into a meat grinder feet first.

by Anonymousreply 10July 14, 2020 9:47 PM

Murder is murder. Make him work to atone and pay back to society for the rest of his life. But thou shalt not kill.

by Anonymousreply 11July 14, 2020 9:49 PM

Took forever. Next!

by Anonymousreply 12July 14, 2020 9:49 PM

Just to be clear: the victim's family seems to be against the timing (Covid) of the execution, not against the death penalty in general. Family members would have to travel to be at the execution; there's not enough room to social distance in the execution area, etc.

Also, there's some dispute about the lack of uniformity of sentencing for others involved in the killing(s). I.e., I believe this guy is the only one who got the death penalty and he may not have been the ringleader.

I read an article about this.

by Anonymousreply 13July 14, 2020 9:52 PM

He was white, so maybe he was really guilty? Who knows. If he were black or Hispanic I would say not good.

by Anonymousreply 14July 14, 2020 9:55 PM

I feel incredibly sorry for the little girl and I’m anti death penalty. It is hard to get worked up about white supremacists offing each other though.

by Anonymousreply 15July 14, 2020 9:55 PM

Agree, R15. Just looking at the picture of that girl ... I'm anti-death penalty, too. But I'm not shedding any tears over this guy & his "associates."

by Anonymousreply 16July 14, 2020 9:57 PM

[quote] thou shalt not kill.

An eye for an eye.

by Anonymousreply 17July 14, 2020 10:01 PM

I would be pro-death penalty if there was a way to prove guilt 100%. Otherwise, if there is even a sliver of doubt, I think it is unreasonable to execute someone

by Anonymousreply 18July 14, 2020 10:04 PM

Yeah, put him in prison where he and his fellow psychopaths can terrorize, assault and kill other prisoners convicted of much less serious crimes. Their lives and safety are worthless, after all. Our pretend moral superiority is more important to us than they are.

by Anonymousreply 19July 15, 2020 2:13 AM

I used to be anti death penalty, however, a good percentage of men is psycho and just absolutely worthless. Considering the damage they cause, more of them should be euthanized as early as possible.

by Anonymousreply 20July 15, 2020 2:18 AM

[quote] a good percentage of men is psycho

Especially straight me.

by Anonymousreply 21July 15, 2020 2:19 AM

I'm pro-life. I am anti-abortion and anti-death penalty.

by Anonymousreply 22July 15, 2020 2:22 AM

Does he have “an” Onlyfans?

by Anonymousreply 23July 15, 2020 2:25 AM

Even if, for the sake of argument, he does deserve to die, does that mean you, or anyone, has the right to kill?

by Anonymousreply 24July 15, 2020 2:27 AM

Japan uses hanging and gives no warning.

South Korea also uses hanging.

Taiwan uses a gunshot to the heart or brain stem.

In America, we still can’t figure out how to do it efficiently. It’s an IQ issue.

Sorry correction: South Korea is an abolitionist country. They haven’t executed anyone since 1997.

by Anonymousreply 27July 15, 2020 2:44 AM

How did he get executed? I thought white privilege protects people like this, and only innocent blacks are executed?

by Anonymousreply 28July 15, 2020 2:49 AM

I will lose zero minutes of sleep over his execution.

I'm strongly against the death penalty, but people like Daniel Lewis Lee make me wonder why I bother. When we run up against someone like him, opposition to the death people seems like getting hung up on a very abstract notion.

Still, it is clear that I strongly oppose 'capital punishment' and the 'death penalty.' But just killing this murderous S.O.B. to save ourselves, to ensure that everyone else is safer, to do it as a bit of self defense makes sense. But as a punishment? No. That's just ugly.

Plus, he has tattoos. Tattoos and playing loud music in public are both high on my personal list of capital crimes.

by Anonymousreply 32July 16, 2020 1:28 PM

What exactly is the benefit in saving HIS life? If someone is absolutely guilty of something so heinous, they forfeit their life. Let him starve to death if you don't want legal injection. I don't feel "barbaric" wanting to see him dead.

by Anonymousreply 33July 16, 2020 1:32 PM

R1 Oh, Jesus, I read the thread title as Daniel Day Lewis and almost crapped my pants!

by Anonymousreply 34July 16, 2020 1:41 PM

R14 lives in a suburb and has never met a criminal before.

by Anonymousreply 35July 16, 2020 1:42 PM

I used to be anti-death penalty because I thought wasting the rest of your life in prison is a more fitting punishment than getting out the easy way. But after seeing how comfortable some of these lifers are — personal TVs, three square meals, free education — I think if you broke the laws of nature like a wild animal, you need to be put down like an animal.

by Anonymousreply 36July 16, 2020 1:44 PM

Why do serial killers and Broadway performers always have three names?

by Anonymousreply 37July 16, 2020 1:45 PM

He had such an old timely criminal name.

by Anonymousreply 38July 16, 2020 1:46 PM

I think this whole thing is financial. It costs an insane amount of money to house death row inmates. Those resources need to go somewhere else because of COVID.

by Anonymousreply 39July 16, 2020 1:47 PM

Actors get three names because the unions only allow a name to be used once. Now that Actors' Equity is over 100 years old, lots of names have been taken. Actors are stuck with changing their names entirely, or plugging in a middle name.

by Anonymousreply 40July 16, 2020 1:49 PM

He should get some Botox before the execution.

by Anonymousreply 41July 16, 2020 1:51 PM

I want prison reform in particular with drug related “crime” to massively decrease the incarcerated. And those who merit long term or life sentences- get them. No capital punishment: life in prison without parole for vicious crimes. They can think about what they did for life and meanwhile we will join the civilized world and not do “legal” murder.

by Anonymousreply 42July 16, 2020 1:55 PM

Is he a new Nazis? What’s up with the tattoo?

by Anonymousreply 43July 16, 2020 1:56 PM

Neo-Nazi. Damned autocorrect.

by Anonymousreply 44July 16, 2020 1:57 PM

Why is it that serial killers always seem to have three names, and that at least one of the names is either “Lee” or “Wayne”?

by Anonymousreply 45July 16, 2020 1:58 PM

“The New Nazis” was a sitcom that premiered in 1986.

by Anonymousreply 46July 16, 2020 1:58 PM

“Lee” is a strange last name in general for someone who isn’t ching chong.

by Anonymousreply 47July 16, 2020 2:00 PM

I’m anti-death penalty, though I don’t the world is any less without this guy’s presence (it’s an opposition about what the death penalty does to dehumanize us), i’m More upset about Barr’s eagerness to have the man with advanced Alzheimer’s executed. That is just cruel to someone who, whatever his heinous acts, is already in an awful existence.

by Anonymousreply 48July 16, 2020 2:03 PM

Dustin Lee Honken is next, he shot and killed 5, 2 men, 1 woman and her 10 and 6 years old daughters.

by Anonymousreply 49July 16, 2020 2:05 PM

[quote]“Lee” is a strange last name in general for someone who isn’t ching chong.

Yes, in GENERAL, LEE isn't a common white name...

by Anonymousreply 50July 16, 2020 2:05 PM

I think they death penalty is wrong as a matter of principle. Many of the people who get it deserve it. Which doesn't mean it should be a part of justice. It shouldn't. If one person was put to death wrongly, that's ten too many. What is the greatest punishment: knowing nothing or living with it until you die, caged?

by Anonymousreply 51July 16, 2020 2:05 PM

Thank u, next.

by Anonymousreply 52July 16, 2020 2:07 PM

[quote]No capital punishment: life in prison without parole for vicious crimes. They can think about what they did for life....

So, take all these sociopathic and violent criminals and lock them up together forever. And you think they will spend the rest of their lives contemplating their past bad acts? You can't possibly be serious.

Life without parole and state penitentiary means they will all be in there killing, beating, threatening, raping one another. Your idea makes me feel better about state-sponsored execution. At least it gets it over quickly. Don't consign them for the rest of their days to the most dangerous hell on earth.

by Anonymousreply 53July 16, 2020 2:10 PM

i'm not a fan of the death penalty, but actually for him, I don't care. Changing as I get older.

by Anonymousreply 54July 16, 2020 2:10 PM

So much stupidity in this thread.

by Anonymousreply 55July 16, 2020 2:26 PM

What bothers me most about this is that what we are seeing this week is Bill Barr very effectively creating a campaign issue for Dump. Lee was killed this week. Wesley Purkey got put down yesterday. And another one is scheduled for Friday.

If you vote for Trump, you can have the death penalty for federal crimes. If you vote Biden, you will not.

That will be a powerful reason to vote for Fatso for many, many, people.

by Anonymousreply 56July 16, 2020 3:00 PM

Think of Carl Panzram. Now, there was a man for whom the death penalty was designed for. Some people, should not be allowed to live. Maybe this Lee person was one.
