The free lineup looks pretty decent. I dumped Netflix awhile back and I’m getting ready to drop Hulu. Nice to have another option for those of us who can’t afford cable and are staying home these days.

Shit! I did the early subscriber deal but it’s not going to be on Roku at launch.

They couldn’t come up with a better name than pea-cock?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 14, 2020 11:27 PM |
Thankfully they have a help chat and said they would refund my subscription.

The peacock has been the symbol of NBC when they were the first to get color shows in the early 1960s. It went away for many years, but then came back again in 1979 when the network was failing dismally in the ratings under Fred Silverman. They got rid of Silverman, and were back to #1 a few years later, but they kept the peacock logo ever since, although there are less feathers now.
This was the promo that SNL was parodying at r4.,

And this was the original NBC peacock animation from the late 50s, early 60s.

Why did you dump Netflix, OP, and why are you dumping Hulu?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 15, 2020 12:34 AM |
Obviously the OP is poor and only able to afford one service at a time.

Like Disney+, there’s not much here that interests me.

Trivia: NBC hired Chermayeff & Geismar to redesign the peacock in 1980, which they delivered that year, along with an exclusive NBC typeface.
It sat on the shelf for six years and didn't debut until 1986 because NBC didn't want to spend the money on replacing their logo on everything until they were #1 in the ratings.

I get it with xfinity and you have to sit through commercials on everything.

Will we be able to see all the flavors of Olivia Benson?
From dainty ingenue to raging She-hulk?

Will Hello Larry be made available?
Love Sidney?
I don't know why these streaming services don't dig deep into their network catalogues and put out seasons of shows that aren't out on dvd or even on Amazon. It would be a great enticement to buy their services.

I hear they're going to show the formerly forbidden episodes of "The Facts of Life" that never aired, wherein Jo introduces Blair to the ways of sapphism.

Good news regarding the breakthrough with Roku - it was useless to me otherwise. The content looked pretty good - won't pay so will live with the commercials.
