Why do you think Trump decided to start wearing a mask?
Some of your are saying that he "finally gave in" for political and publicity reasons.
I really don't think so. He was pretty firm on not wanting to wear a mask, and he's a stubborn asshole who ALWAYS doubles down on his stupidity.
My theory is that he has received some scary information from the CDC about not only worsening Covid-19 conditions, but maybe even some scarier new viruses coming down the pike.
Hold me, David!

I'll wait to see if he continues wearing the mask, OP, before I start speculating. Today was a photo op and I'm sure the hospital staff required him to wear one.

How very Maggie Haberman of her.
I'm so fucking tired of the standards getting lower and lower and lower so that if he so much as spreads feces on a wall, they'd say "How presidential that he stayed within the lines!"

You know what, at this point if it takes stroking his fucking ego to save lives I'll cut her some slack. Too many people are getting sick and dying because he's been a complete infant about the mask issue so far.

We know the game now don’t we? It’s a DISTRACTION. Even after 4 years, the media plays along. He needed to distract from his pardon of Roger Stone - so he does something stupid like actually wearing a mask. The top story on the news? NOT Roger Stone - but the goddamn mask. Journalism is dead. Along with democracy.

As many pointed out: To call it "presidential" is ridiculous because a mask isn't even supposed to be politicized. He's finally doing what even CHILDREN have been doing. Why so desperate to credit him for doing what he should've done before 135K people died?

CNN’s Jeremy Diamond:
Trump agreeing to wear a mask came after a quiet lobbying campaign by some WH aides & political advisers who urged Trump to set an example for his supporters.
One adviser described it as "lots of negotiation" & repeated "pleading.”

Yeah, somebody laid down the law. So he did the photo op and surrounded himself with fully decked out officers and others in dark formal clothes so the photo would be as flattering as possible. It was probably the only reason he was there.
So y’all are right. He did it for the election. And it was sold to him that since he was in a hospital, it was less likely to look like he capitulated.

Good point about Mitch. Especially since turtle boy is up against the ropes in his re-election. Schiff was on some show this morning and when asked about a second impeachment over pardon-gate he scoffed. Why bother when the republicans in the senate are complicit in this breakdown of the rule of law.
Once again reminding us that taking back the senate is just as important as the presidency. If not more so.

OP: Trump did not “start” to wear a mask. He wore it on day and only while he was visiting Walter Reed Army Hospital; otherwise, he would not have been permitted to enter. By the way, after he left the hospital, he went golfing—not back to the office to work. He went golfing. With no mask.
Trump is lying, fraudulent, incompetent piece of shit. He has no intention of leading by example or working to solve this pandemic.

[quote]Once again reminding us that taking back the senate is just as important as the presidency. If not more so.
I've said this before: While it's appalling that 3M more people voted for Hillary than Trump and she couldn't become president, it is far more sickening that in 2018, 12M more people voted for Dems than a Rep for the Senate and the latter controls it. We really do have a very screwed up system when the "will of the people" does not apply to this country. And worse? Theses smaller populated RED states aren't even self-sufficient. We actually pay for the upkeep so that these regressive states can continue to destroy us. KY has fewer people than NYC alone and can't pay for anything themselves, yet that pile of excrement McConnell has all of the power. THAT'S "Affirmative Action." Literally contribute nothing and only take out of the pot and small population...and you get to control Supreme Court justices and despicable laws which benefit the wealthiest alone.

R28, not everyone at military hospitals or at Reed is military. I know they have civilian nurses and other positions for civilians especially these days. Just not sure which other positions. There is always a shortage of nurses at all levels. But back when my father was in Reed twice all the doctors and nurses I interacted with were military. It's a great learning environment. I remember an intern/resident from Georgetown or GW med school was rotating through Reed during my dad's stay and he wasn't military. Reliving those events can still bring tears to my eyes. Yes I am a sap. They were so wonderful to us. They even called in a nurse (Major Someone) to be the family liaison to go keep us informed throughout my dad's operation and after. She'd go into the OR and come back with reports (like he took the anesthesia well) throughout the 12 hours he was in there - 7pm to 7am. The surgeon who operated on him didn't leave his side from when he came out of surgery Saturday morning until until Sunday morning when he walked over from my dad's bed to the family waiting room about 20 feet away where he told me he thought my dad was going to make it. Sorry for hijacking this thread. I'm verklempt.
