“If they’re saying that they’re an ally, they are lying to the American public,” singer says after group formerly known as Lady Antebellum files lawsuit against her.

So this clueless country group with the racist name sues an established singer to get her to hand over her name.

They gotta pay her more for that.

by Anonymousreply 1July 10, 2020 5:19 PM

They should’ve changed their name to Anti-Antebellum

by Anonymousreply 2July 10, 2020 5:22 PM

Lady A for a band sounds stupid, why not come up with something better or just keep it the same.

by Anonymousreply 3July 10, 2020 5:25 PM

Meh. They can both use the name. Lady Antebellum has the copy right, after all. And they are willing to share the name

by Anonymousreply 4July 10, 2020 5:28 PM

This is a horrible PR move for them. They've been known informally as Lady A for years. But to yank the name from her to legally change theirs is a low blow. It's the principle.

by Anonymousreply 5July 10, 2020 5:30 PM

I refuse to believe they didn’t do research first before choosing a name. They just knew the person with the name before was an unknown black woman and they could plow through with the name due to their popularity and $$$$$$.

by Anonymousreply 6July 10, 2020 5:32 PM

They say they held the trademark for twenty years.

by Anonymousreply 7July 10, 2020 5:38 PM

Dumb white group decide to steal name from black. Bad move.

by Anonymousreply 8July 10, 2020 5:44 PM

White mischief. At this point I would have more respect for the band if they had retained the name Lady Antebellum.

Acknowledge the mishap, apologize for inconveniencing the artist, and hold a contest for fans to rename the group. Make lemonade.

by Anonymousreply 9July 10, 2020 5:49 PM

If what R7 states is true, R9, then that might be the way to go.

Prove they had the trademark to Lady A for twenty years in order to establish that they weren’t steamrolling anyone and then move the fuck on with a name change chosen by their fans.

The new album with the new name could have a track featuring the other Lady A artist, and everyone could celebrate leaving the narrow-mindedness of the past behind.

by Anonymousreply 10July 10, 2020 6:03 PM

They should have a contest for all their fans to re-name them. How about Lady Assholes?

by Anonymousreply 11July 10, 2020 6:06 PM

I will always appreciate them standing up to Bush Jr.

by Anonymousreply 12July 10, 2020 6:08 PM

Is Lady Gay copyrighted?

Charles Kelley reeks of closeted Jesus gay.

by Anonymousreply 13July 10, 2020 6:08 PM

Sorry - that’s The Dixie Chicks

by Anonymousreply 14July 10, 2020 6:09 PM

r14 Yes, they now go by "The Chicks".

by Anonymousreply 15July 10, 2020 6:10 PM

Lady Cerebellum. Oh wait, they don't have a brain.

by Anonymousreply 16July 10, 2020 6:12 PM

Lady Antwodudes.

by Anonymousreply 17July 10, 2020 6:17 PM

Lady Aaron Schock

by Anonymousreply 18July 10, 2020 6:20 PM

I guess Lady Antinegro was too on the nose.

by Anonymousreply 19July 10, 2020 6:22 PM

[quote] The new album with the new name could have a track featuring the other Lady A artist.

That would be a very Kumbaja moment. But it's not enough. She wants $10 million, $5 mill for herself and $5 mill for some struggling black artist foundation or something.

by Anonymousreply 20July 10, 2020 6:24 PM

If I were the artist, I would settle for: (a) restoration of my name; (b) the band featuring me on the first album (and a number of related tours) under their new name; and (c) a percentage of album sales, concerts and merchandise earnings from that album. Think of the publicity and exposure (likely more than her career has ever enjoyed)!

Make lemonade, but hurry before the lemons start to mold.

by Anonymousreply 21July 10, 2020 6:40 PM

This is like something out of South Park. Country band changes their name to show how non-racist they are; name turns out to have been taken from a black blues singer.

by Anonymousreply 22July 10, 2020 6:41 PM

Lady Ayyyyy

by Anonymousreply 23July 10, 2020 7:09 PM

Lady Anti-bellum. Fixed.

by Anonymousreply 24July 10, 2020 7:26 PM

Lady Abzugbella

by Anonymousreply 25July 10, 2020 7:32 PM

Lady Deplorable would suit them better.

by Anonymousreply 26July 10, 2020 7:35 PM

Still can’t get over how they thought filing a lawsuit would get them anywhere right now. What fucking fools.

by Anonymousreply 27July 10, 2020 7:36 PM

All this for music in the .99 bin?

Never heard of Lady A. and haven't thought about Lady Antebellum since 2009.
