20/20 did her story last year and provided a recent update of her tribulations in jail. She's gotten even crazier.

This past year, 20/20 has revisited a lot of the big new stories from the 80s and 90s.

What did you think of Farrah Fawcett portraying you in a TV-movie?

It was a brilliant performance, R6. I think she really captured my essence. She’s almost as beautiful as I am!

The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was all the screen time that homely little girl got. I think they could have cut all those kids from the movie, tbh. No one would’ve missed them. God knows I wouldn’t have.

It seems that Diane was ambivalent to the kids from the start but that they truly became a problem later on, R12, when a boyfriend suggested he didn’t really want kids and certainly not to take on someone else’s. Similar to Susan Smith’s motive in that sense.

What I don’t understand about Diane Downs or Susan Smith is why they didn’t just sign over the kids to the state rather than, well, the murder thing. At least in Susan Smith’s case I believe the boys’ father or his family would have taken them in too if it came to it.

I suppose their brains told them it was better to be seen as tragically bereaved mothers than selfish women who would give their kids away to keep their boyfriends.

No, I never got to see them in person. They were little Chrissy’s favorite band, you know. God, I hate that little bitch. I can’t believe she rolled me over like that. Kids are nothing but trouble once they’re able to talk.

Don’t get me wrong. I loved those kids. Little Cathy and Connie, and Calvin. Or was it Charlie? Oh, who can remember? I’ve always been bad with names. I know it was a boy. It’s so sad that they’re all dead. Gunned down by a man in the bushes.
