Trump says that number IRRELEVANT - it is the death toll that matters, and the deaths from Covid keep declining.
USA HITS 3 Million Covid Cases
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 9, 2020 3:25 PM |
THEY ARE NOT ACTUALLY DECLINING. Asshat Trump sycophants like DeSantis and Abbott are under reporting and misclassifying deaths. Nobody has noticed that pneumonia deaths are 5x higher than Covid...IN JULY ?

Sociopathic prez!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 7, 2020 11:05 PM |
The case numbers are not irrelevant but they are not important.
The death rate or critical hospitalizations rate is relevant.
If a million people get Covid19 and six die it's not a big deal (except to those six), but if ten people get Covid19 and six die it's a very big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 7, 2020 11:12 PM |
The death toll will rise quickly because hospitals are running out of space and equipment to give everyone an equal chance of living through it.
A doctor in Houston appeared on one of the cable networks last night. He had three sets of life-saving equipment available and nine people needed it. He said he had to make choices based on who was more likely to survive. He chose the three he thought would have the best outcome.
You could hear the pain as he talked about this. He never imagined he would be in this situation.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 7, 2020 11:20 PM |
R1, do you have a link to the pneumonia deaths? Thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 7, 2020 11:23 PM |
R5....I am attaching the first link that popped up...if you want more, GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. I am NOT your secretary.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 7, 2020 11:32 PM |
r5...I will ad that the link says that the reporting is false....while in the same breath saying its correct. I should have linked a better article. CNN style reporting doing a bothsiderism.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 7, 2020 11:37 PM |
I should have asked if you had a legitimate link.
If a million people get Covid19 and six die it's not a big deal (except to those six)
There's more to Covid than just the number of deaths.
Most people don't die but there are still long-term side effects -- they are finding lung damage & scarring.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 8, 2020 4:00 AM |
Hmmm- I guess Trumpy-poo hasn't heard the latest spine-tingling news about all those " Asymptomatic" cases. Insignificant, my Ass.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 8, 2020 4:51 AM |
Don't forget that because of so many COVID patients taking up beds -even if they don't die- other people AREN'T getting treated for other illnesses and are dying or not getting the treatment they need whether for diabetes or heart diseases, etc.

This is your daily reminder that authoritarians are holding the country hostage over a virus that has an over 99% survival rate.
But, please feel free to display your depth charts and graphs. You will anyway.

1% of Americans contracted the virus. 99% DIDN'T.

And what does everyone else needing acute medical care do when every hospital is overwhelmed with COVID patients?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 8, 2020 6:52 AM |
Up to 95% of those infected with the coronavirus could be asymptomatic and mostly about 3-5% of those infected will die, why are you old fat farts keep getting so irrationally panic-stricken about this benign disease? You are going to die prematurely from either obesity or diabetes anyway. Does it look more shithole to die from COVID-19?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 8, 2020 7:15 AM |
R12 They survived the first round. It is possible catching it more than once, and people have. It does damage to at least some people's lungs (unclear if it is permanent damage, though) so who is to say how many survived the first time will be that lucky if they get it for a second or third time, with their lungs not working like they should.
And like R14 said, the more people in hospital with covid issues takes space of other people they need medical attention or other serious heath issues (heart attacks, strokes, among others) the need prompt attention.

Has anybody compared the number of deaths now vs. the number of deaths in a normal July (all causes)? That's the impact of COVID.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 8, 2020 7:38 AM |
I wonder if you will be singing the same tune if you or someone you love catches it and either dies or ends up with complications, R19. In any case it’s true the death rate may not be as high as say, smallpox or Ebola, but to downplay the misery this is causing for millions of people worldwide is pretty callous. I’m a nurse in Connecticut and every unit except 2 in my hospital were almost entirely filled with COVID patients in April. The state government took appropriate action and most were quick to take public health recommendations seriously and I’m proud to report we now have one of the lowest rates of new cases in the country. Life is going as back to normal as current circumstances allow and I’m glad to live here.
Have a nice day.

The rightwing talk machine has really pushed the "fact" that the numbers are declining, R1, even though they're not. It's impossible to get through to people on our county's Facebook page. They keep saying numbers are declining, they keep saying it's just the regular flu, that masks make it worse, etc.
It's insane, even relatively normal people I've known for years are starting to get pissy about having to wear masks, like this whole thing is just a nuisance and evil Democrats are trying to force them to do something they don't want to do.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 8, 2020 8:16 AM |
R18, if your average death rate for July is much higher than usual and the reported Covid deaths are not explaining it then something else is going on. Either you have underreporting or you have another health crisis happening. Not spin or manipulating. Your post may have been sarcasm but impossible to tell these days on here.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 8, 2020 8:25 AM |
I see a lot of comments with no proof.
No matter what the illness and death rate are, they are the important number. In this ONE case the cheeto is right.
if your average death rate for July is much higher than usual and the reported Covid deaths are not explaining it then something else is going on.
R23 is obviously ignorant about how information is gathered, compiled, interpreted, disseminated, and most of all, manipulated.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 8, 2020 8:33 AM |
Are people lining-up around blocks just for the chance to get tested? And then what do they do with that information? They still won't wear a mask or social distance.
Fine, test everyone in the U.S. But stop telling us about it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 8, 2020 8:36 AM |
We don't have 2019 death stats yet, but we can look at 2018 and see that we are absolutely without question seeing many more deaths in June 2020 than in June 2018.
- June 2018 had 220,000 deaths for the entire country from all causes (source: CDC)
- Almost none of those were from flu, as there were only about 20 people diagnosed with flu in June of 2018 (source: CDC, chart linked shows data by week, "201823" means "year 2018, week 23" i.e. the first week of June)
- June 2020 had 144,000 deaths from coronavirus alone (source: Worldometer linear scale using Google virus data)
If we had almost zero deaths from flu in June 2018, and 144K deaths from coronavirus in June 2020, then our death rate has increased exponentially thanks to this virus.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 8, 2020 8:49 AM |
1. I want to prove that a Covid is the sole cause of an increase in deaths in the US.
2. I select data that will absolutely without question prove that Covid is the sole cause of an increase of deaths.
3. I ignore any and all variables, parameters and possibilities that may bring into question the veracity of my data-gathering.
4. I present that information as proof positive.

The death rate is 4.6%, not 0.1%.

Yeah, posting facts and information from legitimate sources is such a bad thing to do, why don't we just blindly believe what a drooling moron of a troll says instead?

From NYT The Morning
There is no country in the world where confirmed coronavirus cases are growing as rapidly as they are in Arizona, Florida or South Carolina. The Sun Belt has become the global virus capital.
This chart ranks the countries with the most confirmed new cases over the past week, adjusted for population size, and treats each U.S. state as if it were a country. (Many states are larger in both landmass and population than some countries.)

I know people who have passed from plus COPD. I also know people who have recovered from the virus. There are so many death mongers on the DL addicted to their death charts and graphs. Truth is, all I can do is masks up, wash my hands, and do my best to social distance. And KNOW that 98% of the people who get covid do not even get sick, much less die. So I'm choosing to live and I'm not going to let the news scare me to death.

Number of deaths is the wrong measure. It's easy but it doesn't tell anywhere need the full story.
Think about wars. We focus on the number of deaths but thousands more are left injured, many severely,
That's what's happening with Covid
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 9, 2020 12:45 PM |
The number of deaths is much more than reported.
Cities are seeing record numbers of people dying suddenly at home without being tested. They won't be added to the "presumed Covid" category for weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 9, 2020 12:56 PM |
Cities are seeing record numbers of people dying suddenly at home without being tested.
To wit: An increase in people dying at home suggests coronavirus deaths in Houston may be higher than reported.
As coronavirus cases surge, inundating hospitals and leading to testing shortages, a rapidly growing number of Houston-area residents are dying at home. An increasing number of these at-home deaths have been confirmed to be the result of COVID-19.
The previously unreported jump in people dying at home is the latest indicator of a mounting crisis in a region beset by one of the nation’s worst and fastest-growing coronavirus outbreaks.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 9, 2020 1:05 PM |
R38, yes, we saw that in NYC as well. The NYC Dept of Health ultimately had to increase the reported number of people dead from covid because of these stats
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 9, 2020 1:26 PM |
And KNOW that 98% of the people who get covid do not even get sick, much less die.
Liar R33.
Roughly 50% of people who get Coronavirus become ill to varying degrees - many very seriously. 1 - 4% die. If a patient is intubated, they have a 50% chance of survival.
Then there are the long term effects (permanent lung and brain damage and other serious medical issues) which we are only starting to identify and understand. To date there is zero evidence that having Coronavirus provides future immunity - in fact, there are plenty of patients who have become reinfected.
This is a good link for liars like R33.
Plenty of medical and scientific [bold]FACTS[/bold].
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 9, 2020 1:38 PM |
If a patient is intubated, they have a 50% chance of survival.
Actually, the numbers out of NYC showed that, if you were intubated, the chance of survival was 10%.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 9, 2020 2:58 PM |
Once you’re intubated you’re looking at weeks to months of rehab IF you survive. When you have been medically paralyzed and sedated while machines sustain vital functions you can’t just hop out of bed and go back home once you get better. The strain on the nation’s healthcare resources from this is going to be overwhelming regardless of survival rates.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 9, 2020 3:05 PM |
more cases than any single country.
and why? weak leaders put economic concerns (and re-electability) above public health
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 9, 2020 3:08 PM |
The stats totals are not accurate because they only record people who are dying of Covid-19 in the hospitals around the country.
God only knows how many are dying at home of the disease.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 9, 2020 3:18 PM |
Fuck the rest of the country that didn’t take precautions or enforce them to slow down the curve. Hospitals are reaching capacity?! People are dying at home? Big fucking surprise. If they had all done what they were fucking supposed to do five fucking months ago, we’d all be moving on from this.
