I assume it's old, right? It reminds me of something hippie/granola people would make.
What type or design is this lamp? I've never seen anything like it?

That is what is known as an ugly lamp.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 7, 2020 6:15 AM |
I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 7, 2020 6:16 AM |
R2, you would.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 7, 2020 6:18 AM |
Just one look at that lamp makes children die and men's balls fall off!

That lamp is so ugly, it makes Martha Stewart cry.

That lamp is so ugly, it was rejected from Trumps' cabinet
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 7, 2020 6:25 AM |
Technically, isn't it a lampshade?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 7, 2020 6:25 AM |

There are spaghetti factories on the Barbary Coast? Bordellos I’m certain there are.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2020 6:26 AM |
Art Noveau in the Eastern style. I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 7, 2020 6:28 AM |
How much did you pay for that?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 7, 2020 6:29 AM |
It looks like a Ukrainian headdress.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 7, 2020 6:29 AM |
If you paid over 2 cents ...
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 7, 2020 6:30 AM |
That looks like the hat I wore today.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 7, 2020 6:30 AM |
Call me crazy, but I think this one would make a nice accent piece on a simple sidebar or sofa table.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 7, 2020 6:35 AM |
Or perhaps a place to put the skulls of your dead enemies?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 7, 2020 6:36 AM |
R20 clearly has a telephone-dialing pencil and cigarette holder in matching colors.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 7, 2020 6:38 AM |
[quote] It is a 1930s crescent moon lamp.
The one at R14 looks like a Byzantine empress’ crown.

OP’s and R20’s are rapturous.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 7, 2020 6:56 AM |
It’s a kokoshnik.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 7, 2020 7:44 AM |
Call me crazy, but I don't think it's ugly. Sure, it's quite outdated from an interior designer trend point of view, but it has a bit of whimsy I like. It would be great in some fortune teller's parlour.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 7, 2020 8:12 AM |
Sorry, parlor.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 7, 2020 8:13 AM |
It's a style called Bordello Baroque.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 7, 2020 8:14 AM |
Who cares what the trend is in home decor right now. It's your home. If you like it, ENJOY!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 7, 2020 11:43 AM |
I love it and plan on finding a similar one later today for my bedroom
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 7, 2020 12:03 PM |
It's something a flapper would wear.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 7, 2020 12:30 PM |
Does flapper refer to vagina lips?
Weren’t flappers supposed to be slutty, rouging their knees and all.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 7, 2020 12:46 PM |
Gorgeous 1920s shade, and a very rare survival. If a lamp with this shade were kept in a bright room, the silk would fade and shred, Plus they would have to be dusted very carefully. And god forbid you had cats fascinated by the hanging bead tassels......
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 7, 2020 12:51 PM |
That’s a classic, old school Tiffany Lamp, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 7, 2020 1:00 PM |
OP, here are some representations of what Tiffany Lamps looked like, BEFORE the Tiffany Lamp was redesigned to a stained glass lampshade.
The design is classic Victorian, and Tiffany’s original design was created via various fabrics, rather than stained glass, which is what most of us recognize as a classic, antique, Tiffany Lamp. .
While stained glass did eventually become the hallmark of Tiffany Lamps, it was not the only or even original concept of the lamp.
I don’t know if that’s a Tiffany, but it’s a Victorian design, for sure.
Gorgeous and a keeper!

Very fucking cool! I want one now
R14 is right, thanks now I know what to search for online

My grandmother wore one of those! She was Ukrainian.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 7, 2020 4:52 PM |
Maybe I feel sorry for this lamp. That is because I am stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 7, 2020 4:53 PM |
My grandmother had one just like it, but it was red. She always kept it in the window. We were concerned because she always seemed to have friends over in the evening, and sometimes she would be so tired in the morning when we'd stop by on our way to school. She insisted she was fine and always would have little money gifts to give us. She promised my sister the lamp "when the time came."
And then she died.
But the lamp was destroyed in the fire before the found her bludgeoned body so my sister never got to enjoy the lamp.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 7, 2020 4:58 PM |
I'm wearing it for my next album cover: Majestic
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 7, 2020 4:59 PM |
If you're grandmother had that lamp in red in front of the living room window, she was a whore.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 7, 2020 5:00 PM |
That was the joke, r46. Meh.

I think they'e beautiful and would also make great hats. Obviously, from some of the posts here I'm not alone.
Regarding The Old Spaghetti Factory, I recently (before Covid) went to an estate sale of an owner. It was in an eccentric home right on the Russian River and filled with the most crazy, wonderful, decaying vintage treasures. I went back for a second binge.
The rustic house looked like it was built for debauched parties. Large living area, wonderful outdoor area, huge deck, land that extended to the river, and tiny cabin-like bedrooms. Originally a summer cabin that had been extended over the years. Some wonderful stuff, a hand painted china cupboard painted with nautical signs and old sailing ships, bar ware, endless china and serve-ware, much of it chipped. You could sense the wild parties of the 70s - 80s that happened there. I bought a lot of piece for my space in an antique collective (yes, I'm one of those).
Old weird lamps sell well, I'm always looking for them.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 25, 2020 7:38 PM |
I love it. It’s such an odd design. I’m not a designer but does this fall under the eclectic category?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 26, 2020 1:51 AM |
You have fucked up context; these lamps faded into the background until lit. The hazy warm glow bouncing off beads was forgiving to everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 26, 2020 2:28 AM |
It's called the "Theodora, She-Bitch of Byzantium" lamp style.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 26, 2020 2:49 AM |
OP, I don't like it but if it's real then it could be worth a lot. I saw something like that on the Antiques Road Show - the one from the UK.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 26, 2020 3:02 AM |
These look like a very fancy Portuguese Man O’ War, carefully bedazzled.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 26, 2020 3:02 AM |
Originally known as “My Fallopiana” these lamps celebrated the can-do spirit of Nebraskan reproductive organs.

lt look like something Gloria Swanson would have worn in a scandalous pre-code film that took its design hints from Alphonse Mucha posters.

I like it, especially R20, which is apparently called Celadon Chinoiserie Moon Lamp.

It’s a headdress from one of those North Korean million member flash mob dance numbers. The ones they routinely stage for Dear Leader just before they wheel the latest nuke through the square. And it’s FABulous!
