Who goes to Yale?

Harvard and Yale are always paired in conversation, but it seems like there are so many people who throw around Harvard credentials in politics, on television news programs, on the Internet...but Yale is rarely mentioned.

Is it me? Do I just not register boasting about Yale as much as my ears pick up (daily) references to Harvard? Or are Yale grads more likely to be under the radar for some reason? Lots of Harvard, Columbia, Penn, sometimes Cornell, Georgetown, Duke, etc. Rarely Yale.

I know there are notable alumni including the Clintons, the Bushes, Kavanaugh et al. I also have heard of a good number of actors who went to Yale Drama.

But on the whole I feel like I hear Yale mentioned 1/100th as often as Harvard. Any thoughts?

Harvard has more students. It's at around 20k, Yale is around 13k.

But Harvard is the big famous name, even more than its competitors.

We went to Yale.

Both Bushes went to Yale.

by Anonymousreply 3July 7, 2020 3:13 AM

R3 As noted in the OP

by Anonymousreply 4July 7, 2020 3:13 AM

Both Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider went to Yale.

Historically Yale was known as the gay ivy, and was famous for having a high gay population.

Yale has a Drama School - enough said

by Anonymousreply 7July 7, 2020 3:17 AM

Lots of Harvard alumni in the education policy sector in DC but I don’t know if I have ever met any Yale grads.

by Anonymousreply 8July 7, 2020 3:18 AM

Paul Allen was part of that whole Yale thing

Harvard and Yale have been ousted by Stanford and MIT.

If they can't keep up specifically in advanced tech, that ivy league name won't carry its undeserved weight much longer.

Notice during times of crisis, like now, Harvard and Yale and Princeton haven't done jack shit as far as the pandemic. The research hospitals, most noticeable the University of Washington, is crushing it with studies and research and progress toward a vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 10July 7, 2020 3:25 AM

You’re all so common.

by Anonymousreply 11July 7, 2020 3:27 AM

R10 is a nitwit. Princeton doesn't have a medical school. UW was responsible for that ridiculous modeling study (funded by Gates) that purported to predict when COVID would peak with a margin of a few days.

Harvard is fantastic in STEM r10. A famous medical school, and its biology, chemistry and physics departments are all considered among the best.

by Anonymousreply 14July 7, 2020 3:31 AM

Half of the Supreme Court....

by Anonymousreply 15July 7, 2020 3:34 AM

Did I? I forgot.

by Anonymousreply 16July 7, 2020 3:36 AM

Susan Weaver were in the same class at the drama school. I was the favorite student though Susan did well for herself too with those bug movies.

by Anonymousreply 17July 7, 2020 3:47 AM

Yale has a fairly decent film school. They seem to have a strong arts focus in addition to the usual Law, Politics etc.

by Anonymousreply 18July 7, 2020 3:52 AM

R18 there’s no film school. That’s NYU.

by Anonymousreply 19July 7, 2020 4:02 AM

I recently googled someone I’ve known for a few months (try not to judge me too harshly, he’s cute and I was curious) and found out he graduated from Yale. In all the conversations we’ve had he never mentioned it. Harvard grads mention Harvard within ten minutes of meeting someone.

by Anonymousreply 20July 7, 2020 4:05 AM

Harvard kids are public school nerds with chips on their shoulders. Yale people are from Manhattan and went to Groton and know better than to name drop. Same with Princeton people. They’re discreet.

by Anonymousreply 21July 7, 2020 4:08 AM

Prescott Bush went to Yale.

by Anonymousreply 22July 7, 2020 4:10 AM

Yale = Old Money

Harvard = Wealthy New Yorkers

by Anonymousreply 23July 7, 2020 4:15 AM

R21 is correct.

by Anonymousreply 24July 7, 2020 4:15 AM

Jodie Foster and Ckaire Danes ( though Claire didn't graduate).

by Anonymousreply 25July 7, 2020 4:16 AM

Looks like Rory Gilmore is still Yale's most famous graduate.

by Anonymousreply 26July 7, 2020 4:20 AM

[quote] Jodie Foster and Ckaire Danes ( though Claire didn't graduate).

I really hope Yale Drama did better than those two. They are so mediocre.

by Anonymousreply 27July 7, 2020 4:22 AM

They didn't attend the drama school, they were undergrads.

by Anonymousreply 28July 7, 2020 4:24 AM

R28, that's a relief.

by Anonymousreply 29July 7, 2020 4:26 AM

People who didn't get into Harvard or Stanford.

by Anonymousreply 30July 7, 2020 4:27 AM

Princeton and Yale (and some non-ivy small liberal arts) get the bluebloods, and they often have big fat dicks.

by Anonymousreply 31July 7, 2020 4:30 AM

My friend in law school was a Harvard alum and had a T-shirt that said something like, “Harvard. Because nobody brags about his kid getting into Yale”

by Anonymousreply 32July 7, 2020 4:34 AM

As has been noted above, it is rare to encounter a Harvard graduate who does not drop that fact into conversation early. (Harvard folks can also be spotted, say at a cocktail party, by their habit of trying to talk down to you on any subject that comes up).

by Anonymousreply 33July 7, 2020 4:41 AM

R32 It’s all about bragging for Harvard alums!
