I hate it, but I think I'm the only non-religious person on the planet who hates pork. Anyone else?
Does pork have a weird wet dog flavor to you?

it can oxidize quickly giving it an off taste.

I don’t detest it, but I rarely eat it because I just don’t like it. Never have and probably never will.

R1 Ah. That makes sense. I can never really enjoy it unless it's a sausage that's been boiled in water first, which seems to remove that yucky gamey taste.

You don't know what gamey means.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 7, 2020 1:29 AM |
I’ve never eaten wet dog so I couldn’t tell you.

R4 [quote]Boar taint is caused by the accumulation of two compounds – androstenone and skatole – in the fat of male pigs. Androstenone (a male pheromone) is produced in the testes as male pigs reach puberty, while skatole (a byproduct of intestinal bacteria, or bacterial metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan) is produced in both male and female pigs.
So one of boar taint's ingredients is skatole, or gut germs?! Fucking GROSS. I hate eating pork even more now.

Yes. The Jews and the Muslims are right about pork. It is gross and I won't eat it!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 7, 2020 1:34 AM |
R5 I know, I should've known better. I used it within the context of an "off" flavor, though.

WASP here but in tenth grade, we had to dissect a fetal pig in biology class. Can’t eat any pork since then. Not one bit.

Oh shut up R8. I was comparing the non religious to the religious. Sounds like you need to brush up on your literacy skills.

R10 What? Worms?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 7, 2020 1:37 AM |
I eat bacon, sausages, and some ham. I loathe pork chops.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 7, 2020 1:46 AM |
No OP, dog taste like dog.

I'm one of those folks for whom apparently both pork and cilantro oftentimes leave a taste like soap in my mouth. Yuck.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 7, 2020 2:14 AM |
Don't almost all the different cuts of pork taste different, love bacon and ham, some pork roast, but chops are usually dry and tasteless. There is also pork loin and probably a couple of other cuts I am not thinking of right now. Are you complaining about all pork OP?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 7, 2020 2:20 AM |
Did you eat pork in a Chinese Restaurant OP? Might explain the dog taste.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 7, 2020 2:21 AM |
I occasionally get a gamey flavor from some kinds of pork, usually not ham, but sometimes bacon, or pork loin.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 7, 2020 3:21 AM |
Soapy flavor from cilantro is a minor allergy.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 7, 2020 3:29 AM |
No. To me, pork tastes like pork - it's quite unmistakable.
From around 1986 to 1994, I sojourned with the Seventh-Day Adventists, and swore off pork. It made my palate very sensitive to the presence of lard in commercially baked products. For instance, Hostess powdered sugar donuts had a powerful undertow that tasted like sausage.
Now that I no longer abstain from pork, I don't detect it anymore.

Not to my tastebuds, no.
However, Celestial Seasonings "Tension Tamer" herbal tea does.

Today's pork ("the other white meat") is actually pretty bland and needs to be marinated or seasoned to have any flavor at all.
