She was a knock-out when she was young. I'm sure John loved her, but she got old. Did anyone here ever meet or know this dynamic couple?
Elizabeth Edwards has been dead for 10 years
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 31, 2020 1:45 AM |
Wow. I forgot that she ever existed.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 6, 2020 3:20 AM |
She supported gay marriage a long time before Obama and Michelle did. RIP!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 6, 2020 3:21 AM |
I totally forgot about John Edwards. Good looking but what a creepo. This is the lady that got cheated on on her deathbed by Edwards?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 6, 2020 3:25 AM |
John Edwards turned out to be THE biggest disappointment / jerk-of-a-politician in my lifetime.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 6, 2020 3:27 AM |
My friend worked on his campaign and said he was very nice. Is ye with the baby mama? They were both pieces of work werent they? He was weak and she was cray
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 6, 2020 3:28 AM |
That era feels like a lifetime ago. I remember when little ratbitch Mark Halperin and his Co author Heileman trashed her relentlessly in Game Change, right after she was already at her lowest. Yeah she was high strung and sometimes unpleasant but portrayed her as some sort of monster. I wonder what John Edwards is up to now.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 6, 2020 3:29 AM |
Smarter than John, the power behind the man, nuttier than a fruitcake after the death of the oldest son.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 6, 2020 3:43 AM |
I still remember the NYT gave her obituary the title of "A Life of Cruel Reversals."
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 6, 2020 3:48 AM |
R7, death of an older son? I forget their story. Something about a car crash?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 6, 2020 3:51 AM |
Rielle Hunter is ugly as sin. I read that they were together for awhile but are not at this time.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 6, 2020 3:51 AM |
r7, do you have any examples of her nutiness?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 6, 2020 3:53 AM |
John Kerry *royally* dissed her one time. Elizabeth and John Edwards had their first date at a Wendy's restaurant Every year, they would go back to Wendy's to celebrate. One year, they invited John and Theresa along. John Kerry said, "I thought we were going to stop at Wendy's as just an acknowledgement and then go on to a nice dinner. But, no, the whole dinner was at Wendy's."
And both Elizabeth and John were selfish fucks. When he was running, her cancer came back. Instead of doing the honorable thing and suspending his campaign, he calls a press conference and says, "I'm going to continue running and she'll join me when she can." I think bitterness was what killed her.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 6, 2020 3:53 AM |
R11
It's hinted at above. Mostly sexist.
But the online rumors were that she had two kids late in life to keep John from straying and to fill the void left after the death of their eldest son in a car crash. The other was that she was a control freak who used her husband to gain political power.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 6, 2020 3:57 AM |
Their oldest kid, 16 year old Wade, died in a car crash. He was driving near their beach home in NC, wasn't speeding or driving recklessly, and a freak gust of wind caused the car to crash.
So to help with the family's grief, Elizabeth began hormone shots so she could carry 2 more pregnancies at age 48 and 50. Donor eggs I'm sure, but she wanted more kids.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 6, 2020 3:58 AM |
I don't think Elizabeth was very bright. One time on CNN, someone was interviewing Ann Coulter. Ann was typically running her mouth about how bad for the country John Edwards would be. CNN had arranged for Elizabeth to be a surprise caller. Elizabeth came on the call and started scolding Ann for the things she was saying. Ann, having no fear of losing her reputation, gave Elizabeth a really hard smackdown. It was a stupid thing for Elizabeth to do. And once the Rielle Hunter story broke, Ann tore into that like a dog to red meat.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 6, 2020 4:00 AM |
Why are people so fucking cruel ?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 6, 2020 4:05 AM |
My heart went out to her. Losing Wade was more than enough heartbreak for one lifetime.
Then she had to die knowing she was leaving behind young children, and her cheating ex would be raising them with whatever hussy he could attract.
I really wanted him to be a good man. What a fucking disappointment.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 6, 2020 4:13 AM |
How is he making a living these days? Consultant work?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 6, 2020 4:16 AM |
[quote]I'm sure John loved her, but she got old.
Wow, what a crime.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 6, 2020 4:20 AM |
I don't think she necessarily loved her dead kid more than other parents of dead kids. But she grieved for Wade obsessively, and I often found myself sympathizing with the bottomless pit of despair she had to deal with.
The family's choice of a monument for the kid, however, was ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 6, 2020 4:21 AM |
R6 I read that. She was portrayed as a psycho, but I didn't find her behavior unreasonable considering the stressful situation she was in - I would've acted much worse.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 6, 2020 4:37 AM |
Oh, and Edwards opened a law firm. One of his partners is his eldest daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 6, 2020 4:41 AM |
He’s such a fucking slime ball. And Elizabeth gave herself cancer via HRT to try to please this piece of shit.
Sorry he’s a Democrat.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 6, 2020 4:45 AM |
She was an adult, she knew the risks.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 6, 2020 4:53 AM |
She was actually very gracious IMO by never treating his love child with disdain. She made sure the kid was acknowledged and gave her gifts etc.
I do not know if I would have been able to do it. Knowing I am dying, leaving my kids and never finding happiness with someone else.
I believe they lived apart after the affair came out even when she was dying.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 6, 2020 5:29 AM |
I know I'm going to get hell for bumping an old thread, but I am still interested in John Edwards. He was the ONLY candidate talking about poverty and I think he could have been a great progressive president. Has anybody seen the old film, Advise and Consent? It shows how a candidate can get knocked out of the race by manipulating his private life.
How do we know Rielle wasn't a right-wing operative? I always thought she was. I hope Edwards comes back, but the way they framed his "acquital" the feds can always pull him back in, try him again and jail him. So much for trying for economic justice in the U.S.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 24, 2020 7:25 PM |
The stories about her in Game Change are insane. The one I recall most vividly occurred when the Edwardses were in a private airplane hangar during the campaign, and the Rielle Hunter had just come out. John and Elizabeth were fighting and she pulled her blouse up, screaming “LOOK AT ME JOHN!”
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 24, 2020 7:44 PM |
If she was an operative, it would explain her lavish lifestyle. What talents does she have? It all seemed like a foreign or domestic honey trap to me.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 24, 2020 10:54 PM |
R27 I remember several "crazy" things she did mentioned in that book, but to me they were totally understandable considering the stress and pressure she was under, most of which was her husband's fault and could've been avoided.
That said, like R26 I think Edwards would've been a great president and I even voted for him in 2008. I also find it odd that his affair was so controversial considering other candidates have been accused of rape and sexual harassment.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 25, 2020 3:35 PM |
She had those thick eight inches for quite a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 25, 2020 4:24 PM |
When he was a candidate he came to our office (law firm with many well-connected Democratic attorneys). He stood right beside my office door to talk to everyone. Very good looking and short as I remember (but at 6’3” most people seem short to me). I can’t vouch for what was in his pants. Should have followed him to the restroom.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 25, 2020 4:41 PM |
John was hung.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 25, 2020 4:50 PM |
Did John Edwards ever a DL fave a decade ago? Did we had relentless obsessive troll starting new threads to speculate about his dick size or whether he's a family? Perhaps a "true story" of someone who showered with him in college?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 25, 2020 5:01 PM |
Economic transformation of America vs. dick size.
Which will get the most comments on this thread?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 25, 2020 5:05 PM |
[quote] How do we know Rielle wasn't a right-wing operative? I always thought she was.
Doubt it, but even if she were, Edwards was a grown man whom nobody forced to fuck Rielle. The right-wing plot, if one existed, would have failed had Edwards chosen not to cheat on his dying wife in the middle of his presidential campaign.
[quote] I hope Edwards comes back
As a politician? Dream on, r26. His political career is just as dead and buried as Elizabeth and their oldest kid.
As a politician? Dream on, r26.

^ Oh, dear. Sorry for repeated sentence.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 25, 2020 5:13 PM |
Too bad. He was the only one who talked about labor and unions. I guess we now have to look to Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 25, 2020 5:15 PM |
No, Edwards can't come back for the reason I mentioned. Just as Trump will never be tried for campaign finance violations the way Edwards was. They fixed it so he can never be in politics again. That never happened to any other politician that I know of. Nixon, for example, was pardoned unconditionally.
MLK was assassinated when he started addressing economic issues and disparities. Just saying.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 25, 2020 5:17 PM |
But to get back to the (interesting) topic of this thread.
Anyone can be honey-trapped. You, me, anyone. We're grown people but the intelligence services can manipulate anyone, especially guys who've had a lot of good luck in their lives and feel somewhat invincible. He had weaknesses, obviously. I think he loves his family deeply and is loved.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 25, 2020 5:20 PM |
He clearly wore the pants in that family...
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 25, 2020 5:26 PM |
I was 21 when the 2008 election happened but I really feel like we Dems had three great choices--Obama, Clinton and Edwards. It's a shame about what Edwards was like behind closed doors.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 25, 2020 5:34 PM |
[quote]Did John Edwards ever a DL fave a decade ago? Did we had relentless obsessive troll starting new threads to speculate about his dick size or whether he's a family?
It wasn't until the Rielle story broke that DL really ramped that discussion up. And there were several saying it was a conspiracy and not his child, etc, etc. because according to DL straight, sexy men aren't responsible for bad decisions.
The truth is that he let one moment of horniness ruin his life. Rielle is butt-ugly. She had that long horsey face, so she must have had a magic poo-say because she ain't all that! Glad to see the back of him because if he can be tempted to drop trou for that, then he would have been an awful POTUS.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 25, 2020 6:12 PM |
Rielle must have been a demon in the sack. She seems like one of those women who would do everything in the bedroom and also carry around a vial of your blood (i.e Angelina Jolie) to demonstrate her "devotion" to you. And if you tried to break up with her, she'll say "ok", and then stalk you and peer at you throw the windows so that she NEVER lets you go.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 25, 2020 6:15 PM |
Rielle was so ugly and trashy. Straight men really will fuck anything.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 25, 2020 7:08 PM |
[quote] Nixon, for example, was pardoned unconditionally.
He never could have returned to politics, though, r138. Edwards is hardly the only politician to permanently destroy his political career.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 26, 2020 6:50 PM |
Yes there were stories that Elizabeth was not a nice, pleasant person. Because she fought and eventually died of cancer, the media made her out to be a kindly saint.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 26, 2020 6:57 PM |
Rielle isn't ugly, just plain. Elizabeth thought no woman could ever compete with her. She was the typical Chapel Hill snob.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 29, 2020 9:29 PM |
She was the Bar Bush of Democrats wasn’t she?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 29, 2020 9:31 PM |
I always liked her...she seemed cool.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 29, 2020 9:33 PM |
I remember a good bit of fangurling and wishful thinking about him during the 2004 campaign. He's definitely fey in that way that Southern men often are—enough that Ann Coulter picked up on it and called him a faggot.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 29, 2020 9:37 PM |
^ about him here, that is
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 29, 2020 9:38 PM |
What a sordid tale, scandalous and sad. The cheap ho he knocked up wasn’t even cute.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 29, 2020 9:39 PM |
[quote]enough that Ann Coulter picked up on it and called him a faggot.
You’re seriously applying anything cognitive to the processes by which Ann Coulter reaches a position?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 29, 2020 9:50 PM |
R50 Her fellow pundit, the execrable slag Maureen Dowd called him " Breck Girl". Dowd undoubtedly wanted to call him what Coulter did but this was the NYT so she had to feign being genteel.
Anyway, I appreciated Edwards willingness to address class issues and think that he should not have been disqualified on the affair alone. The game change book was a cruel hit job on Elizabeth Edwards that seemed designed to cause as much humiliation as possible. One of the writers Mark Halperin, was later me tooed. He was also one of the " But her e mails " fanatics during 2016. Make of that what you will.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 29, 2020 10:16 PM |
Speaking of honey traps and bait that isn't beautiful, don't forget Bill Clinton. Like Edwards, he'd been successful with women his whole life so what's the big thrill about yet another cheap affair with a girl who throws herself at him? Not even the challenge of a query playing hard-to-get! So arrogant that the huge risk of jeopardizing the most powerful position in the world isn't enough to deter him. How is this game worth the price to this kind of man, who's got nothing to prove and everything to lose?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 29, 2020 11:05 PM |
I'll "oh, dear!" myself for "query" instead of "quarry". Can't blame auto correct because I don't use that. Mea culpa!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 30, 2020 1:28 PM |
Towards the end, Elizabeth had completely lost her mind!
