Why Is Bologna So Expensive?

It's like 4.50 for a pack.

I haven't had any in like 20 years, so I figured I'd buy some. I can buy chicken or beef (same amount) cheaper.

I don't know where you shop but Roast Beef in NJ is $`12/lb. for the store brand and $14 for the premium stuff.

Bostonian here. I haven't had it in a million years but my German grandfather would only eat bologna if he got it from a European style market. He used to go to the Polish Triangle at the intersection of Southie and Dorchester in Boston to get it. The German style bologna was smaller than American deli bologna and much more delicious. The Polish Triangle is still there serving up German, Russian, Polish and other Eastern European foods. I need a German bologna sandwich with course mustard now.

You can get a whole chicken for $4.00 (cooked) at my supermarket.

Mortadella, the Italian salami from Bologna, is about 14 USD a pound in Europe. And it's delicious!

R2 here. Don't "Oh, dear" me!

Course should be coarse. Autocorrect. Stop judging me!

Why on Earth would you buy bologna? That's for 4th graders school lunch.

Mortadella can be dressed up well enough.
