Vile fries. This perfectly describes In-N-Out
It's bland and overrated but Californians will be here to say that "If you don't like it, then you..."

Those guys should lose the burgers and start making out. Yes, I know they're brothers
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 3, 2020 7:21 PM |
The burgers are good, the fries, not so much. I also like that they have brewed, iced tea.

I've only attempted to go there a couple of times and there's always a 30 minute or so wait. I don't get it, it's supposed to be FAST FOOD. If I wanted to take that long, I'd just go to a sit down restaurant.

[quote] Vile fries.
This is kinda funny considering unlike all the others' fries these are actually straight cut potatoes, not 57-ingredients-pretend-to-be potato fries.

Kill yourself, R8. Burger King changes their fries every 30 seconds and they always suck anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 3, 2020 8:07 PM |
Yeah BK has always had suspect fries, which is why they change them so often

McDonald's kills in the fries department.
In-n-Out fries are flavorless and can't compare to McD's.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 3, 2020 9:23 PM |
McD’s fries are, indeed, flawless.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 3, 2020 9:24 PM |
In-N-Out fries are tasteless. I see them cutting up the potatoes, but don't know why they end up tasting like fried Styrofoam.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 3, 2020 9:38 PM |
R13 I think they're just a vehicle for condiments/animal style.

Their priority is the drive-thru window - it will always be faster driving through than going inside.
That being said, as a native Angeleno, I have never gotten the hype. The taste is mediocre at best, and the price, the wait, and the vibe of the clientele does not warrant a repeat visit.

I'm digging the O'Shea bros. I have no clue about them, other than they're hot.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 3, 2020 10:38 PM |
I'm glad people are starting to say this so we can finally begin to heal. In-n-Out is on par with Wendy's/Burger King/whatever "fancy" meat McDonald's is hawking at any given time. And it absolutely, utterly pales compared to any slight step above burger joint. 5 Guys, Smashburger, even Red Robin body In-n-Out at will. And I say this as a former fat kid who was a former fat adult who changed his entire life and diet and got into shape very abruptly at 35 (and has maintained it for nearly a decade now) who craves ground meat smothered in cheese on nutritionless bread 100 percent of the time. I know from burgers.
And finally and most of all fuck In-n-Out burger for that goddamn name making me reach over to the goddamn shift key four times within a single sentence.

Only tried it once and was not impressed.
Fries, flaccid. Supposedly, they're good if you specify well-done.
Burger, I was not impressed with. Supposedly, "animal style" is how you should order it. IMO, you shouldn't have to order it with the extra condiments, which make it "animal style."
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 4, 2020 12:08 AM |
r5, ppl in southern california are so fkin stupid. Or that lazy. Just go inside. You'll have your food within ten minutes. Ppl in California refuse to get out of their cars. Why would continue to go through a drive thru that is now spilling into a five lane highway.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 4, 2020 12:16 AM |

I actually like Burger King French fries (thicker-cut than McD's, have not had them for a while, though). I like the McD's fries, but would prefer them just a little bit thicker-cut. When I eat the McD's fries, I need to bite into at least two fries at the same time. The worst would be shoe-string fries. I understand wanting to maximize fried surfaces. That's just my preference.

We have an "In-N-Out isn't that great" thread at least 4 times per year. Does it even have the reputation to warrant the discussion anymore? It used to be different because it was ostensibly fresher and higher quality than the traditional burger chains, but it's really not special anymore.

I admit that McD and Shake Shack have better fries. However, In N Out fries use a formula and technique that has been used by small burger joints for years. It was not until McD massed produced a coated fry that was frozen and shipped to a site, did Americans develop a new taste to these doctored up fries. Shake Shack and all the others doctor up their fries, which does taste good.
I have traveled in all 50 states and always make it a point to to try not only the local "best" burger, but I have tried many regional chains burger joints. There are a number of one location burger joints that are better than In N Out. if you really want to know more about these types of joints as well as other burger info, watch or read George Motz. He has made it a career to test burgers across the country.
In my opinion, for the price, consistency and taste, In N Out wins hands down. Runnerup is Culver's.

r43 two questions:
1. What are you tasting with IN-N-Out? I had 2 hours ago and couldn't taste anything special? Just there.
2. Which non-coastal state was your favourite? I've resigned my self to the idea of a road trip at the end of the summer. I've been to up and down the West Coast. Any suggestions?

The burgers are mediocre, and the fries are TERRIBLE.
You could literally get better fries ANYWHERE. Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, Culver's, Dairy Queen, Red Robin, Five Guys, ... literally EVERY other place has better fries.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 4, 2020 2:18 AM |

R44. A reply to your question.
I think Oklahoma has the greatest number and variety of best burgers. It may be the large number of cattle ranches. Texas is good too, but I like OK better. In OK try Claud's in Tulsa, Floger's in Ada, Hamburger King in Shawnee, J & W Chickasha but the town with the most is El Reno where I liked Johnnies Burgers and Sids Burgers. However, I have always loved the Juicy Lucy in the Twin Cities.

In-n-Out is so revolting they can't even contain the rancid stench emanating from their kitchens.
There are two in Glendale, and the first one hits you while you are still on the freeway at the 2 and the 134.
Then if you go anywhere near the Americana or downtown Glendale, it's like a dead In-n-Out skunk is following you everywhere for blocks and blocks.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 4, 2020 3:30 AM |
In an Out is cheap which is why people love it. I grew up on them so I get a craving every so often. You can get a burger, fries and a drink for around $6.
Also, there are Bible verses on the underside of their cups. Always has been.

At all hours of the day. There are usually 8-10 cars backed up in the drive-thru, minimum. I've seen 15-20 cars many times - that's a fucking long line.
It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to get through the drive through. It's something I will never understand.

A few years ago I got a couple In-N-Out gift cards so every once in awhile I'll brave the drive through. I have to give them credit that even with the long lines it moves quickly. Someone is standing there to take your order as you pull in and then there's a 10-15 minute wait as the line progresses - though once they asked me to pull over to wait for the well-done fries. I go to the one in Hollywood so maybe they've perfected the efficiency. I also refuse to go if the line of cars at the drive through is stretching out of the parking lot onto the street.

If the person does not like the odor, then state that in a way that civil. However, if the odor is truly a "rancid stench", then the State of California or others in authority should be notified to ensure there is not a problem with food preparation, disposal or other unsanitary conditions.
The President uses this methodology to divide the country, why do it here? We can disagree but with respect.

R124, maybe most people aren’t anti-Christian. Actually most are not

Is there any evidence that In n out funds anti-gay orgs like chic fil azz?
by Anonymous | reply 135 | July 6, 2020 12:51 AM |
I don't even think Chik-fil-A chicken sandwiches are good, they have a weird flavor to them. But the way they line up by the one by me you would think it was manna from heaven.

R136, so be it, but people love their sandwiches.

I just don't get it. I had a Chik-fil-A and the chicken tasted funky but I thought maybe I had a bad one. So tried it at a different location and same thing. I would rather have a cheap ass McDonalds McChicken off the $1 menu

I totally agree. The burgers are ok (the way they toast the buns makes it better than most fast food burgers) but those fries truly suck. I'd rather go to Fatburger when I decide to eat beef and that's maybe once a month. Burger King and Carl's Jr. have really good Impossible burgers when I absolutely crave fast food.

Who has best fries? Shake Shack?
by Anonymous | reply 140 | July 7, 2020 9:00 PM |
Fatburger and their steak-cut fat fries are much better than In-n-Out

Anyone try the KFC fries?

The tater wedges?

I love the shoe string fries at Steak and Shake
by Anonymous | reply 144 | July 7, 2020 10:49 PM |
Most burger prices I try to get onion rings instead of fries. I am surprised that McDonalds has never offered onion rings, but they do have good fries. I also like Arby's curly fries otherwise most fries are kind of boring.

Shake Shack fries are okay but nothing special. Better than In-N-Out but that's not saying anything.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | July 7, 2020 11:06 PM |
I love every single place mentioned in this thread, and I desperately miss In-N-Out.

I eat Long John Silvers once a year, nobody admits to going there yet our LJS has been there for 40 years so somebody is giving it business. I love their hushpuppies, wish other places offered hushpuppies which I know are terrible for you.

I like LJS too, R148. They know from fried foods.

The new KFC Fries are incredibly meh. Not in any way bad, just forgettable.
I vastly preferred their old Seasoned Potato Wedges. Those were not just awesome, they were UNIQUE. I would sometimes go to KFC just for those wedges. No way those new "fries" are going to entice me there.

In n Out fries are delicious in a home made sort of way. If that's not for you, to each their own.

They are disgusting

No, R152, they're not. They're almost universally disdained. I don't know why In-N-Out's management hasn't taken this seriously.

This thread has inspired me to go to Culver’s.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | July 10, 2020 12:40 AM |
I love Culver's fries.
The burgers... you have to get a double, and then you have to season it when they give it to you... they don't put any salt and pepper on the patty. If you do that, the burgers are good.
