Is it Sandy Duncan for Wheat Thins? Joyce DeWitt for L'Eggs? Or maybe, like me, your favorite vintage commercial has a touch of Wessonality?
What are some of your favorite vintage TV commercials featuring celebrities?

I can't find the actual commercial, but looks like someone made a little compilation - I remember thinking how beautiful Belinda Carlisle was in her Agree shampoo commercials

Are we making a distinction between people who were already celebrities and used their celebrity to endorse a product, or people who were nobodies at the time the commercial was made but later achieved fame?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 3, 2020 3:13 AM |
R10 - that's not Kim Basinger, but Ricky Schroder is the kid in the Wessonality spot.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 3, 2020 4:00 AM |

Brenda Vacarro's first ad for tampons, discontinued immediately after its disastrous initial airing during an episode of Charlie's Angels.

Another good one...Reba's Fritos commercials. I had a friend growing up who swore he wasn't gay, and he could reenact this whole commercial. He even had a Reba cardboard stand-up from this advert campaign. Almost 30 years later, he's married and has a son...I really thought Reba made him gay.

R10 A masterpiece of a commercial, but the woman who plays "Catherine" is not Bassenger. She was the model and socialite Carolina Gramm.

Dolores Roberts for Glade Solid air freshener....
That woman made a career along with sizable fortune playing same sort of character.
Read in an interview Ms. Roberts stated she bought her first NYC (Manhattan) apartment with money she earned from that Glade commercial. Am guessing that included residuals.

Here's a great find with Paul Sorvino. Sadly, I've been unable a sweet one with Carmine Caridi from the '69/'70 as a tough guy preening every time he passes a mirror. Still vividly remember it.

Another Freberg ad for Banquet Frozen TV Dinners. The unknown actress reminds me of Jan Hooks.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 17, 2020 6:02 PM |
Another classic Freberg ad for Jeno's Pizza Rolls. It parodies a cigarette commercial at the time that used the William Tell overture and asked people to show their Lark cigarette pack.

R4, as others have since pointed out, Margaret Hamilton did not shill for Folgers. That long-running series of commercials featured Mrs. Oleson, a Swedish busybody who apparently knew hundreds of young married couples.
Also, remember the soap-opera-ish commercials featuring the Tasters Choice couple?
But the ones I looked forward to were soap or deodorant ads which showcased hunky guys that were Zestfully Clean or scrubbing with Irish Spring.
