From Academy Award-nominated director David France comes a powerful and eye-opening documentary about a group of activists risking their lives to confront the ongoing anti-LGBTQ persecution in the Russian republic of Chechnya.

When it comes to understanding gay Chechnya, Makanin’s ‘Plennyj’ (‘The Captive’) is an unsurpassable exploration.

There’s a gorgeous film adaptation that I recommend anyone interested in the topic watch. It’s almost as sublime as the short story itself, and that is high praise.
