Logan's Run

Great idea, bad execution.

I would love to see either the film or the series remade and updated a bit.

So many flaws in both of the old version but the concept is good.

Just got a DVD of the tv show...what a hoot. People living in a ground shelter claim there is more than enough food stored to last for years but in the shot are fresh fruits like grapes that cannot be stored for 200 years in a shelter.

Gregory Harrison is old enough to be one of the elders who control the shit show.

No R1. I want to go to the gym instead.

We could put them in a domed garden of Eden and get rid of the clothes.

I wanted Gregory Harrison to be my personal Sandman.

I'm surprised it hasn't been remade, Battlestar Galactica style.

It has to be on HBO or NetFlix, the networks ruin everything.

OP: I agree with your comments.

Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, the Pusher films) was going to re-make this with Ryan Gosling a few years ago which I think would have had potential. Sadly after the success of Drive (2011) they made the abortion of God Only Knows (2013) so the proposed remake of Logan's Run was dropped.

I read for several years that a remake was Bryan Singer's dream project. I don't think he gets to make those anymore.

That said, I was obsessed with the movie and the tv show when I was a kid.

R8 In Bryan’s version the top age is 18 and there’s only males.

Ryan Gosling is not a favorite of mine but with a good cast it could be great.

The movie is damn good, even if the special effects are little short of pathetic.

The thing about remaking this story is that it's SUCH a zeitgeist story - it totally captured the spirit of the late sixties and early seventies, when the "Generation Gap" was a thing and Revolution was in the air. If it were remade today it'd have to be re-written to capture today's zeitgeist, take whatever is most annoying and toxic about today's young people, and build an entire society around it.

Which is going to be a hell of a job for some writer. For a long time I wondered if a remake would have to feature Sandmen who went around executing young citizens who committed the crime of putting down their smartphones for more than five seconds, but now there's been another zeitgeist shift and I don't see how it can work in a "Logan's Run" remake. Yes, today's young "activists" would gladly get rid of everyone over thirty, but how do you build a society around the competition to be more politically correct than thou?

Oh dear.

If I posted twice, it's Datalounge's fault or my computer's, not mine!

On it!

What would be interesting is a mash up combining Omega Man, Soylent Green and Logan’s Run in to one movie.
