YES! Very intelligent, well-educated people. Doctors, dentists, education professionals - particularly doctors for some reason. Super religious with very strong "views"about gays, women, abortion, decency, sex etc.

I have never understood it.

R1 it’s the money that comes with those professions. More money in the US means you have a louder mouth and are more entitled. Plus they are generally conservative, especially if they are Boomers.

Religion is usually the root of it.

Personally, I believe questioning your own religion is the bravest, scariest thing anyone can do. To even contemplate or start to do it, you are typically accused of heresy and will be going to hell.

To then pursue it to its end and see the fallacies and illogical tenets, then makes you see how much you were told to believe is absolute bullshit and lies. Finally, you're at odds with your family's beliefs - you could be potentially isolated from your lifelong friends and family.

That's too much for some people to take.

That's part of it - the other part of it is that some people have lived in extreme bubbles their whole lives and have a misconception that liberals= drug taking, welfare recipients and that all of their fellow white people feel the same way and are conservative.

There are a lot of misconceptions about liberals and their beliefs. But, personally, I don't think most liberals have misconceptions about conservatives - they see them for pretty much who they are.
