To be clear, the protestors were on their street and some of them were on their lawn.

The protesters were on the couple's property, so the couple had every right to do what they did.

They weren’t just “trampling” on the lawn either. Watch the video. They were already trespassing on a private street. From there they opened the pedestrian gate to this specific house. If they were trying to get to the mayor’s house there was no reason to go through this property.
