Gay Porn Star Ricky Larkin - Not Enough Attractive Black Guys In Porn To Succeed

Porn star Ricky Larkin is under fire over a video he posted that was aimed at black men in his industry.

“I hate to break it to you but there are just not that many good looking black guys in porn,” he said in a video that was apparently deleted before it was reshared. “It’s that simple. If there were better looking black guys in porn there would be more black men shot for major studios.”

The backlash to his words was quick especially when it came to other men of color. Award winning star Max Konnor posted a video in response where he said that black men are held to a much higher standard than their white counterparts. He also claimed that they have to go above and beyond in the looks department while white guys don’t have to work as hard.

Rikk York also had some choice words for Ricky over the matter by calling his words “saddening and “despicable” while adding, “The white privilege is almost like a holy demon that’s spread in the whole industry.”

Ricky attempted to justify his words in a separate Twitter thread with fellow performer Kuper Ryan that was still seen as tone deaf. “Sexy, educated, and career driven? This is language coded and coated in anti-Blackness,” one person tweeted in response.

by Anonymousreply 101June 22, 2021 2:02 PM

There is a surfeit of skanky anorexic white boys in porn and no one seems to complain.

NEWSFLASH...DECENT PEOPLE DONT MAKE PORN. Hopefully a good looking and intelligent person, Black, white or otherwise, would choose a profession that has some dignity in it.

by Anonymousreply 1June 25, 2020 11:47 PM

I'm probably stirring the pot but I don't disagree.

I'm black but don't watch a lot of black guys in porn because they're MADE unattractive. They often do the "thug" look and keep they're hats and white socks on. Not sexy to me at all.

by Anonymousreply 2June 26, 2020 12:01 AM

Has Ricky Larkin looked in a mirror lately. It isn't a pretty picture.

by Anonymousreply 3June 26, 2020 12:03 AM

He surely is suffering from sexual narcissism.

by Anonymousreply 4June 26, 2020 12:14 AM

[quote] don't watch a lot of black guys in porn because they're MADE unattractive.

Then it has to do with the casting - they need to seek out other Black performers and cast them against the stereo-typical image that is presented in gay porn. They are out there, and the casting needs to expand their net

by Anonymousreply 5June 26, 2020 12:19 AM

Ebony has some very good looking guys, I love Trent king.

by Anonymousreply 6June 26, 2020 8:19 AM

Kuper is such a shit stirrer.

by Anonymousreply 7June 26, 2020 8:21 AM

I am a white guy and enjoy blacks in porn and there are plenty of good looking and exciting ones but it tends to be more niche and not the main producers.

by Anonymousreply 8June 26, 2020 9:06 AM

What a fucking dumb and disgusting thing to say.

Not to mention ironic as Ricky Larkin is a definite BOBFOC (Body Off Baywatch, Face Off Crimewatch)

by Anonymousreply 9June 26, 2020 9:29 AM

THIS guy is justifying his "preference" by that ridiculous claim? He's just NOT attracted to Black men so he clumps them ALL together.

BTW, if Fred Flinstone was in shape, he'd look like this dude.

by Anonymousreply 10June 26, 2020 9:32 AM

There is, but almost none in mainstream, most of them have gone to OF because they can set their own prices and control their own careers, rather than being forced into racist setups for scenes, like thugs or criminals.

by Anonymousreply 11June 26, 2020 9:46 AM

I find men from all ethnic backgrounds hot.

by Anonymousreply 12June 26, 2020 10:23 AM

[quote] Curious if the studio is racist? Look at their model page. If they don’t have black models, or have very few, they are a racist studio. For example, IconMale. 199 models listed on their model page. 188 of these modes are white AND Billy Santoro is listed as a studio favorite.

[quote] Look at NoirMale. 102 models and 54 are black. So a studio that is literally called BLACK MAN only has a 50% black performer ratio.

[quote] Men . com. 1028 models. That’s One-Thousand and Twenty-Eight models. Only 26 of those models are black. Only 2.5% of the models they’ve hired have been black men. Why?

[quote] Lucas Entertainment. 48 exclusive models. Only ONE of them is black. Plus the owner and it’s namesake is anti-Islam and continues to hire and star a known racist Trump supporter.

[quote] Sean Cody. 1182 models. Of them only 22 were black men. They did have one Asian model listed which is more than many other studios.

[quote] Falcon Studios. Only 22 Black models listed in the first 567 on their model pages. If they have more, they’ve clearly buried them as their list is not in alpha order. Why so few?

[quote] Corbin Fisher. 677 models. Only 15 are Black men. That’s only 2.2% of the models. Why?

by Anonymousreply 13June 26, 2020 11:43 AM

Some of the figures n R13 seem a little selective. Michael Lucas is obviously someone with some issues (though I don't really see how a gay porn maker being 'anti-Islam' is either remarkable or necessarily unreasonable), but he has used black models systematically across most of his output, I'd think well over any but the specifically black studios. If you're going to just go by his exclusives, you need to do the same for the other studios.

by Anonymousreply 14June 26, 2020 11:54 AM

Ricky Larkin is gay-for-pay trash, so this is working out very well for him.

by Anonymousreply 15June 26, 2020 11:59 AM

Jake Orion in blackface is sure to follow....run

by Anonymousreply 16June 26, 2020 12:09 PM

True, R14. But as a viewer of porn and a resident of Chelsea who has dealt with Lucas personally, I can say he is universally horrendous. In fact, I would call him the poster boy for "but I'm not racist": He is a manipulative, self-aggrandizing user who only associates with individuals who can do something for him. Subsequently, he simply doesn't have any use for minorities outside of exploitation. Since his porn is degrading and abusive--where he is frequently the star top--I imagine it is hard for him to re-cast or sign much minority talent. And that is the separate but corollary issue related to what Larkin is actually complaining about: how do "attractive" porn models make into the mainstream and get established to the degree that they can be financially viable when the industry is leveraged against them?

That's the point that Hugh is pointing out. His figures may be a bit suspect but the ratios are certainly indicative of a trend within the industry.

by Anonymousreply 17June 26, 2020 12:19 PM

Again, I'm sure Lucas himself is completely awful, but I don't see that his models are less attractive than any other studios (he has a lot of overlap with Sarava, for instance, and plenty of his regulars are now active in the Falcon/Raging Stallions group). He also doesn't appear himself that much these days (and I think has official retired from appearing) and I wouldn't say his directed scenes are especially degrading - there are some rough ones, but also some romantic ones. Probably over half of his recurring performers (rather than exclusives) are Hispanic and his black performers do come back. I just don't see the actual output as worse than anyone else, and actually it's better than most on this specific issue.

by Anonymousreply 18June 26, 2020 12:42 PM

This guy certainly seems very hot and handsome and familiar with the gym.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 19June 26, 2020 12:49 PM

A reasonable argument that I just don't see from my vantage point, R18.

I'll counter that if you are correct, possibly it is because I am correct: he sees the financial benefit to being better than most on this specific issue--especially if he doesn't have to use his own dick to do it. As it is impossible to measure exploitive motivation into the equation, he comes out ahead by default.

Agree to disagree?

by Anonymousreply 20June 26, 2020 12:51 PM

It was a stupid thing to say.

There may not be THAT many handsome black men in gay porn, but there are WAY more unattractive white guys than unattractive black guys. It’s a numbers game.

Why? Could it be cultural? Could it be true that so many black men are on the down-low and won’t go anywhere near a camera when having the homosex?

by Anonymousreply 21June 26, 2020 1:05 PM

And not to stir shit but what exact percentages would pass this test? Per last census, AA males are 11.51% of US males or 8.4% of total US so in the 10% range. Is that enough? Even if you adjusted for % of US LGB rather than general population, it would maybe bump it to 15% (there isn't that much of a difference for GB US males by race whereas LB US females tend to skew less white and more minority). I don't have any answers thought you could use helpful demographic data when calculating benchmarks.

* Went with LGB data and not LGBT not because I am some anti-trans troll but because there isn't that much reliable population wide data for gender identity whereas sexual orientation has been asked for several decades now in many of the big population studies AND gender identity and sexual orientation are separate demographic categories so it makes no sense to lump the populations together - political coalitions does not require collapsing traditional demographic variables. ** Mixed race individuals complicate these percentages so to keep it simple I just included the cross-tabs for single race identification though some sources allow respondents to select more than one race for the variable.

by Anonymousreply 22June 26, 2020 1:22 PM

Oh, sure R20. I'm not actually that invested, despite appearances. I've just observed that some porn directors/producers get a lot of criticism here (Lucas and LaRue being the main ones), whereas others, whose output is not obviously different, get next to nothing - I I find it hard to believe the leading lights in Falcon, Sarava, Dark Alley, Corbin Fisher etc are solid, non-exploitative members of society! Though I suppose someone has to be the Harry Cohn to someone else's Louis B Mayer!

by Anonymousreply 23June 26, 2020 1:53 PM

Seems like Ryheim Shabazz is doing pretty well for himself

by Anonymousreply 24June 26, 2020 2:07 PM

I don't understand your point, R22. All of the data listed at R13 is well under the 8.4% you cite as an plausible benchmark.

IIRC, Larkin is a gay-for-pay bodybuilder and sex worker who lives in Las Vegas where the cost of living is relatively low and there is a ton of transient, transactional sex. To him sexwork is a quick buck. I will venture a guess that he's not a member of Mensa.

The porn industry is, in fact, an industry. It is a business which sells fantasy. But the reality is, desire can be and is categorized, ranging from "twink" to "suit-n-tie" to "thug". Someone who lives and works in the industry who cares about social justice, like Kuper, will dig through the data and point out how the studios an align their composition to reflect the populous at large. But to what end? Most people want to spank the monkey and skulk away without getting caught. And they certainly don't want to invest thought into that which they are turning to to for escapism.

The Breakdown:

-- business people who produce what gets them the best return on their dollar.

--performers who want the easiest dollar for their time.

--consumers who just want what they want (and aren't always willing to pay much for it).

--SJWs who want to take a swing at low-lying fruit

--Good Gays, newly enfranchised and empowered to elevate the discourse.

There probably aren't enough of the last category to change anything, with the exception of the explosion of self-produced content that R24 is alluding to.

by Anonymousreply 25June 26, 2020 2:17 PM

I agree with him.

by Anonymousreply 26June 26, 2020 2:30 PM

The problem is he’s making it sound like black men are the problem - when they aren’t. It’s the racist viewers and casting/crew who are. The racists complain whenever a black guy is in a scene.

by Anonymousreply 27June 26, 2020 2:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 31June 26, 2020 3:14 PM

R31

Something’s wrong when you can’t handle a few scenes with black guys when 99% of the scenes are whites only.

I’ve literally seen these racist queens threaten to unsubscribe from a porn site because of a few black guys in scenes. It’s bullshit just like your lame ass.

by Anonymousreply 32June 26, 2020 3:20 PM

R32 if they wanted interracial there are many sites for that. If a certain type does not make you want to jerk off , it’s not racist lol

R33

Stop WWing yourself, racist

by Anonymousreply 34June 26, 2020 3:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 37June 26, 2020 6:02 PM

White gays in this thread literally condoning casting off black and Asian men off to niche sites. The mere sight of black and Asian men hurts their fragile sensitive eyes.

You’d think during these times more white gay men would realize they need to stick up for their black and Asian gay brothers. But instead, many are doubling down on their racist ways. Fuck you.

by Anonymousreply 38June 26, 2020 6:42 PM

It never ends well when a dumb cumdump decides to express their opinions online.

by Anonymousreply 39June 26, 2020 6:51 PM

I'd rather see most any black man in porn than for Ricky Larkin to show up in it. He's a most unattractive troll.

by Anonymousreply 40June 26, 2020 6:57 PM

He's probably a Dump supporter like that other racist asshole who only works with black guys in those videos where he always plays a cop that beats and pretty much rapes them.

by Anonymousreply 41June 26, 2020 7:02 PM

r28 We need to see more guys like DeAnglo. I know they are out there, many muscular jock looking black men with 20k+ followers and Instagram and Twitter. And those are just the gay/bi ones. To say there are low numbers of black men in porn or that no one would follow them or rate them well is just being ok with current status quo regarding minorities in the gay porn industry. These studios know damn well what's up and that they partially control beauty standards.

What's worse is seeing studios such Next Door and Sean Cody virtue signaling with nothing to show for it. They should, can, and hopefully will do better. It's baffling that Gayhoopla ( one of the worst gay porn studios) is leading on diversity as a top site in this industry.

by Anonymousreply 42June 26, 2020 7:10 PM

BreeditRaw and DawgPound have hot black models.

by Anonymousreply 43June 26, 2020 7:43 PM

Who the hell still watches studio porn? lmfao

by Anonymousreply 44June 26, 2020 7:56 PM

Studios all upload porn on onlyfans and twitter. It's easier to search that way than to search for individual models.

by Anonymousreply 45June 26, 2020 8:02 PM

What a shame. He’s in my top five favorite porn stars and this obviously means he’s cancelled now. I’m sure that nutjob at Str8UpGayPorn is ready with a pitchfork.

At least, he was prolific. He must’ve shot over a hundred scenes.

The one he did with BaitBuddies with Ricky? Starr is incredibly hot.

by Anonymousreply 46June 26, 2020 8:09 PM

It's a business never hires black models how do they know black models won't sell?

by Anonymousreply 47June 26, 2020 8:27 PM

It’s PORNOGRAPHY! It’s not PUBLIC OFFICE OR A CEO POSITION AT A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY!

by Anonymousreply 48June 26, 2020 8:30 PM

I thought Ricky Larkin was black. And I found him hot... until now.

by Anonymousreply 49June 26, 2020 9:34 PM

R49 he’s always been a butter face and you find him Not hot anymor because he said he doesn’t find black bottoms in porn attractive?

by Anonymousreply 50June 26, 2020 9:43 PM

Yep, exactly that.

by Anonymousreply 51June 26, 2020 9:49 PM

[quote]I thought Ricky Larkin was black.

Yeah, I assumed he was biracial.

by Anonymousreply 52June 26, 2020 10:00 PM

Ricky's been doing a lot of scenes with transsexuals lately. I give him credit -- at least he sucks their dicks, unlike some of the straight stars (looking at you, Sean Michaels) who won't even touch a dick.

by Anonymousreply 53June 26, 2020 10:01 PM

Ricky sucks actual men's dicks, not just trannies (ugh).

Ricky tongue-kisses men and sucks cock. He never acts like he's disgusted or that it's too much for him. He's very into his gay scenes.

by Anonymousreply 54June 26, 2020 10:05 PM

Wow. From r13's data, just 1.8% of Sean Cody models have been black. And off the top of my head, most only did solos and never returned.

by Anonymousreply 55June 27, 2020 5:59 AM

Yeah, if he is actually straight, at least he acts like he s enjoying. Ironically, Deangelo Jackson seems to be gay and is a terrible performer (hot though he is).

by Anonymousreply 56June 27, 2020 9:49 AM

Black male performers in straight porn can actually work a lot, even in some cases considered legends (Johnny Keyes, Sean Michaels, Mr. Marcus, Ray Victory, and Lexington Steele to name some). Even though much of the time lesser known stars are just used as BBC props. Black Men/White Women is one genre that still sells.

Black women in porn, not so much. Although some have became name stars.

There has never seemed to be a big demand for black performers in gay porn, though. If there were, you'd see more of it. Porn is first and foremost, a business, looking to make money.

It's really too bad, because there are some really hot black men. Not only BBC, but with nice faces and bodies as well.

by Anonymousreply 57June 27, 2020 10:09 AM

[quote][R27] you can’t force someone to get turned on by someone lol people like what they like and it’s not racism.

I really hate when people accentuate their point with “LOL” because it’s usually followed by something dumb. Thanks for proving that R31.

Nobody’s forcing him to get aroused. The topic isn’t even about who or what gives him a hard-on. It was a general question that he answered by categorizing an entire group of people based on his preference.

by Anonymousreply 58June 27, 2020 10:26 AM

Social media was a mistake for gay porn, most of them are mentally retarded, toxic, homophobic narcissists, like their self loathing supporters...

I miss the good old times with no socials, where's we just watch and know nothing about the performers... Better than see the shit these lunatics say, it's a huge turn OFF and make my dick limp.

by Anonymousreply 59June 27, 2020 10:48 AM

Racist bullshit r57 There is plenty of demand for Black performers. They studios are racist and they don't want to hire them plain and simple as that.

by Anonymousreply 60June 27, 2020 10:57 AM

The hottest black man in gay porn today is Austin Wilde.

by Anonymousreply 61June 27, 2020 11:04 AM

Avery Jones just posted this talking about the racism and homophobia in the fucking GAY PORN INDUSTRY! For those of you who think the major studios not hiring Black models has to do with money. It does not. Even the White models are starting to speak up about the racism at the studios and from a few very vocal racist fans

And again, if you never hire Black men or only hire one or two every Blue Moon you can't even begin to know what it would do to your bottom line.

by Anonymousreply 64June 27, 2020 11:54 AM

R55, that’s a pitiful number. But all these sites run on metrics. If more people were interested in those performers or scenes, you can guarantee that they would’ve brought them back.

We have a free market. We can pay to jerk off to whomever we want. Why should these studios pay to shoot performers that won’t sell just to fit some PC worldview? This is fucking PORN. I don’t want to think about the world of privilege and representation when I’m jerking off. And I couldn’t care less what a performer’s political beliefs are. I already assume there’s something truly wrong with them if this is how they’ve conducted their professional lives. Same thing with drag queens.

Why are Porn performers and drag queens being held to the standards of politicians, and yet politicians aren’t being held to ANY standards of behavior at all?

by Anonymousreply 65June 27, 2020 2:41 PM

Prove they run on metrics? I'm so sick and tired of the racist apologists like you saying metrics and numbers. You can't know metrics and numbers if you never hire Black people. Black gay porn is the most search for porn on pornhub but I guess your fake ass phoney metrics don't count that. Those are the only publically posted "metrics" i've seen

by Anonymousreply 66June 27, 2020 2:44 PM

R66 Probably because black gays don’t pay for porn. Bottom line money talks for studios and the old white men that still pay for shitty studio porn don’t really get off on seeing black bottoms get fucked.

sorry pressed snow queen bottom.

by Anonymousreply 67June 27, 2020 3:24 PM

r57 Porn industry is still stuck in past with race = unmarketable. Surprised many as accepting it as fact unlike other areas of society. Is it because we view porn for sleazy, dirty, and for the unmoral that we accept that this stuff is only ok there?

by Anonymousreply 68June 27, 2020 5:25 PM

More racist stuff from r67 Throwing around theories with no proof other than his own racist beliefs

by Anonymousreply 69June 27, 2020 6:14 PM

Well r67 black gays pay for smaller black owned studios. Those studios would never have as much money as the top ones. Which is probably why quality of models is lower and if they did manage to bag a good quality model they could retain them because top mainstream white studios would poach them.

Not to say the other way happens as well. Top white studios actively re-direct all the minorities to these smaller sites as well because "they're not a good fit". Whether you could argue this is beneficial or harmful is the question.

by Anonymousreply 70June 27, 2020 8:18 PM

[quote]Probably because black gays don’t pay for porn.

by Anonymousreply 73June 28, 2020 9:29 AM

That's why the pornhub stats are so important to the context of this discussion. They count both searches and clicks so when they say that Black is the most popular category. They mean it and they have stats to back it up.

Black is the second most searched for category for gay porn but it's the most VIEWED category of gay porn. Now if it was all about money a smart gay porn company would say to themselves that their is an untapped market of views out there that we can get a hold of but none of them do. I think it's because personally they just don't want to do it. They make plenty of money and they are willing to sacrifice the potential to make more because they just aren't comfortable with "those guys"

That's why I think and that's what history and stats show

by Anonymousreply 76June 28, 2020 9:56 PM

r75 well Google Analytics was never supposed to be used for studies like this because its accuracy is spotty at best - most of the demographic info is attributed by googles algorith because google never asks you age (except if you are over 13 because of the law) race, gender much less sexual orientation or gender identity. They scrape a bunch of your search queries and guess but was never meant to be used for scientific studies. It is good enough for advertisers (but they don't have much choice as google keeps all the info proprietary) but ad agencies have been doing horrible "studies" for years and business don't object. And pornhubs classification system sucks - especially the way they arbitrarily segregate gay from straight. But anyway...

by Anonymousreply 77June 29, 2020 9:33 AM

[quote]Probably because black gays don’t pay for porn.

They do pay for Onlyfans. That's a huge business for porn stars now who do it themselves.

by Anonymousreply 78June 29, 2020 9:37 AM

I'm curious r77 What do you think the real numbers say? The point you seem to be making and correct me if I'm wrong is that Pornhub is wrong about what kind of traffic they are getting and that Black isn't the most popular category?

by Anonymousreply 79June 29, 2020 9:42 AM

r79 PH has the search data to show that but they don't have the data to make further demographic correlations about the people who are searching based on sketchy assumptions from Google Analytics. If they stuck to analyzing searches performed by members who signed in, they would be much more reliable (although even that data is messy because most people don't bother to complete their profiles but it is better than guessing) but for some reason aren't satisfied with that (probably because the vast majority of searches are by randos or from google links but that is no excuse for doing dodgy statistical work).

by Anonymousreply 80July 4, 2020 7:16 PM

Which popular white performers REFUSE to work with black performers?

I see lots of info on straight white women performers who won't work with black men (like that Alexis Texas broad), but never for gay porn actors.

by Anonymousreply 81July 4, 2020 8:05 PM

There are some enormously good looking and sexy black and mixed-race men in the gay porn industry right now:

DeAngelo Jackson

Sean Zevran

Max Konnor (although he's very short, he's also gorgeous, and his body and dick are unbelievable)

Jason Vario

Phoenix Fellington

Dillon Diaz

Hunny studio porn is for old YT queens, and their standards for attractiveness are totally different from black gays who watch porn. Most of the hot black men doing porn have migrated to Onlyfans anyway, especially now during these times.

by Anonymousreply 85July 4, 2020 9:54 PM

R88 Helix has done it and they have proven Ricky correct with their casting choice.... surely there are better looking black bottoms out there.

I love black bottoms and Asian tops. I hate how the gay porn industry fetishizes them as nothing other than hung tops or twinky bottoms.

Chaosmen has two very hot black performers in Gerard and Jerome. Both seem really horny and into their scenes. You can tell when Jerome is really turned on because his dick gets rock hard, especially when bottoming.

Gerard hasn't returned for years. I know he was a fan favorite and heavily requested since his disappearance, but he decided to be a family man with his wife.

Marcell is very cute to me but he's only one guy. You can't hire one guy and expect him to represent all Black guys. I for instance am not a big fan of Andy Taylor there are a hundreds of other white models at Helix for me to chose from. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm only attracted to a couple of models at each studio tops. So the odds of finding THE one black model who's going to to turn on all of your fans is zero.

That's not the point r84 Just because their are Black studios doesn't mean the big studios should get away with racist hiring practices. You notice how none of them claim to be all White even though for the most part they are.

Thank you r80 but in the absence of any tangible evidence to the contrary I'm going to trust that Pornhub knows what they are talking about and that their stats and their reading of those stats are correct.

If guys like Ricky Whittle (who had his marvelous sex vids leaked a few years ago and he's magnificently massive) or Lucien Laviscount did porn, I'd be in heaven!

Most of the models at Men.com, Nextdoostudios and Helix are basic looking average at best. For some reason Black models have to look better tham movie stars in order to get a job.

r80 I am pretty search PH has their own internal analytics linked to registered accounts. I can tell you this much, they do save your searches and previously viewed videos.

Studio porn in general today has a dearth of hot, masculine dudes. There aren’t many model-caliber dudes left in American male porn period. It’s even worse regarding black dudes. Hot masc black dudes do straight porn, but not gay porn, with some rare exceptions.
