Celebrities Who Have Never Had Scandal or Bad Press
What celebrities are either universally adored and never get bad press, or are famous but never get bad press (they may not be adored but they are household names)?
Dolly Parton seems to be a universally adored celeb who escapes bad press, while Lily Tomlin seems to be a famous person that people have neutral (to good) feelings about that escapes bad press. Any others?

Benedict Cumberbatch has kept his public image pretty clean. The only things I've heard about him that might qualify as scandalous is that he dumped his longtime girlfriend Olivia Poulet when his career took off so he could take advantage of the hotter women who were coming his way, and that he smokes dope. But that's pretty average.

[quote]Maggie Smith
The Importance Of Being Earnest was my worst acting experience of all time, because I was tortured by (co-star) Maggie Smith the entire time. Wed worked together previously on film Suddenly Last Summer, a Tennessee Williams play, with Rob Lowe and Natasha Richardson, and we all got on well. But Maggie was unhappy with the production, and I became the scapegoat, her victim. Im still amazed that anyone can be so inventive in the ways they can demolish you, but she did. Shes a brilliant actress, but she has a history of doing this. I was told by someone that every single job shes ever done, shes done it to someone. And I suffered six months of it. I couldnt resign because then Id regard it as a terrible failure, and that she had won, but I often wished that theyd fire me. After the first three months, I no longer gave a fuck, and finally started to enjoy myself. But before that, well, it was just horrible. Urgh!

What is "doing this" and "done it" supposed to mean? REG says that Dame Maggie has inventive ways of demolishing him but an explanation of what that means would be helpful. Do you have the full quote? I know that actors can get thrown by uncooperative cast mates especially if there is a power dynamic. Like everyone I like her, but I've always admired REG a lot.

I was thinking about the Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg affair scandal and the scandal where Ted wore blackface at a comedy event. Some online sites have recently brought up that scandal, but most people don't care enough to crucify Ted and Whoopi.

R24 We've been hearing gossip over the last 20 years about Maggie Smith being difficult with her co-workers BUT I believe allowances should be made for her age, illnesses and two troubled marriages.
There was a Youtube (video which I can't find today) where she's unnecessarily arch and rude to a pushy member of the public.
Nowdays, media (such as the one below) chase her in order to publicise misunderstandings and expose their own foolishness.

r99 LeToya and LaTavia didn't get to sing lead when they were in the group, except LeToya did once and LaTavia twice (or she rapped a little). Once Mathew kicked those two out and replaced them with Farrah and Michelle it was more of the same until Farrah dropped out. Once they were a trio it was decided to divide the solo lines up more because as Beyonce once said "now all of us CAN sing".
The original lineup with Toya and LaTavia had great harmonies and a nice blend.

Is it a scandal if you spend your life in the closet (Julie Andrews and late husband, Blake Edwards)?
If you're a secret drinker (Tom Hanks) or pothead (Jennifer Aniston)?
If you defend and associate with indefensible anti-Semites (Jodie Foster) or sexual predators (Diane Keaton)? Or are just being "a loyal bud?"
If you build a superstar career and and remain married for decades, even while you bedded down with your male leads for many, many years and many, many different movies? Is that a scandal, Meryl?
I guess not, if nobody really cares about it.

Tom Hanks is much beloved and the rumors that he is a closet alcoholic are only discussed on gossips sites and DL. One day at work I said that I didn't like him because I think that he's phony and that "Forrest Gump" was a piece of shit. I thought they were going to lynch me right then and there.
Keanu Reeves is also much beloved. Even people who consider him a bad actor still like him. When I first moved to LA a co-worker asked me if I wanted to go to a party at Reeves' house. Of course I did. After about an hour not seeing him we asked where he was. We were told by one of his friends or his people that he was out of the country. I think one of the reasons he is so likable is that he never gave a shit about being famous.

Everybody seems to love Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy, even back from their SCTV days. (I'm not sure they qualify as top-tier celebs, at least not before Schitt's Creek.)
John Candy is another one from SCTV (sadly forgotten) who people adored. He was only 43 when he died while on location for a movie. He actually turned down offers from Saturday Night Live because he was so loyal to the SCTV gang, but enjoyed some film success with John Hughes, Mel Brooks, and others. He was a heavy smoker and obese, but not a drug user or heavy drinker, and he left behind a wife and children. A very decent man.
