Season 3 Of "Marcella" On Netflix

Anyone else watching? I loved it, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Seasons 1 and 2. Not since The Doris Day Show has a previous year's cast and storyline been so completed decimated. She goes nuts, pretends to be dead, and abandons her family to work undercover for some shadowy law enforcement agency. She bleaches her hair and is barely recognizable as the same actress. They do bring back the hot Indian cop - he's basically the only male eye candy in the new season, so maybe that's why they didn't ditch him, too.

I am actually quite enjoying the new season. Yes, the storyline discontinuity was jarring at first but her issues are still more or less the same. The guy playing Finn Maguire is quite hot in a sleazy Irish lowlife sort of way.

I liked it, just finished it tonight. The actress who played the evil bitch family matriarch was very good.

by Anonymousreply 3June 19, 2020 1:29 AM

I was hoping Marcella would slap her.

Just started S1, and so far I love it.

Why is everything British so much better?

by Anonymousreply 5June 26, 2020 12:15 AM

I gave up with two episodes left. I had something come up that precluded being able to binge, and when that was over, I watched last year's Tales of the City, which I did find truly compelling until the very end (I found the whodunit story very unsatisfying).

So, I may get back to Marcella. I don't know. She's too fucked up to take seriously, I sometimes think, and when I stopped watching, my intention was never to return. But we'll see. I just started Xfinity Flex, which is faster internet (I can't tell) and a streaming service. It's half the price I was paying for basic basic and less-fast internet. So I may have a lot of other things to watch instead of Marcella.

R6, I’m three episodes in on S1, and I’m getting rather uncomfortable watching this.

This person has something psychologically so fucked op going on, that she needs to be admitted and held indefinitely somewhere.

So yes, I agree with you, in that it’s really difficult to take any of it seriously, when in real life, we all know someone this unwell, would have been fired immediately from her job, and locked up somewhere under observation.

Alas, there’s nothing else right now, so I’m going to finish the 1st season, and take it from there.

Great show. I loved the first two seasons. The third (just finished last night) was a little harder to get into but I still loved it by the end. Finn is pretty sleazy hot as is Jack rocking the bulge in his joggers.

Marcella is a fucked up character, but a very real and relatable one. Very well-written character development.

Any male frontal? Otherwise: why?

by Anonymousreply 9August 10, 2020 2:50 PM

Marcella's wigs are so so bad.

This is old but I just watched the first 2 seasons of Marcella and both left so many questions unanswered. Anybody watch them? Who shot the Arab taxi driver? Why hasn't her husband been arrested for ordering the murder of the MP's husband? What were the lesbians in aid of in season 2? What's up with the husband's girlfriend going after Gail the only nice person in the whole fucking series? Why were the people in the rehab clinic doing everything the murderer wanted? What happened to the drummer's friend who murdered him?

Why the fuck do they parade all these crimes they never solve? I hate this fucking show.

R1 I just came to make the exact same comment.

It deserves another

R12 - do you know the answer to any of my questions? No way I'm watching Season 3 - I'm too furious about how lousy Season 2 was and I fucking hate Marcella.

by Anonymousreply 13May 24, 2021 9:02 PM

Series 1 was great. Series 2... intense... I had to ff through some stuff... Series 3... liked it. I think a 4 is in the pipeline.

Somebody asked upthread why the British are so much better at these crimes shows and I wish I knew. I think part of it is they are essentially season long mysteries whereas so many U.S. crime shows are episodic. The other thing I find is almost unnoticed but in so many of them (The Bridge, The Fall, Marcella, Sprial, Happy Valley, Prime Suspect) the lead investigator is a woman... yet somehow it's never a big deal she's a woman... it's seldom a got to overcome the boys story... she's usually just the lead. Women are infinitely more interesting characters to me because we put so much bullshit on them in terms of expectations for how they should behave.

R14 - ok - so who shot the Arab taxi driver in Season 1? What was going on at the rehab? What was going on with the 2 lesbians? Why was Jason's girlfriend implicated in the kidnapping of Gail and not held to account for it? Why wasn't Jason arrested for putting the hit out on Barnes? What really happened to the Polish jerk living with Barnes' murderer? What happened to the drummer's co-conspirator? Thanks. Since the IMDB took down their forum, you can never get answers about old series.

by Anonymousreply 15May 24, 2021 9:15 PM

God, I don't remember, R15. Sometimes I just go: that was good. And then I move on. You ponder the mysteries of life... or whatever R15 suggests you ponder.

by Anonymousreply 16May 24, 2021 9:16 PM

I loathe mysteries that throw out a shitload of red herrings and never tie up the loose ends. Lazy writing.

by Anonymousreply 17May 24, 2021 9:25 PM

I love this series. But in series 3 she completely lost herself and became so damaged that she practically developed dissociative identity disorder.

SPOILERS below

She should've killed the head of the crime family before she left just in case she recovered from her stroke a second time and was out for revenge after her children and henchmen were all killed and Marcella absconded with her granddaughter.
