Do You Own Windchimes?

Windchimers should have their chimes broken into thousands of pieces and stuffed down their throats. Thank you for bringing these neighborhood ruiners to our attention, OP.

Now they’re threatening me, these awful, cheap girls!

Am I in my 70s, living in a trailer park?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 18, 2020 6:12 PM |
Yes, several condo neighbor have them. The cacophony of wind chimes that occurs during a windy day or just before a thunderstorm makes Cos run into the bedroom closet!

I have two sets. Out in the open, but very rarely make a sound even in a moderate breeze.
Of course, no matter how carefully and steadily take them down to clean them, it sounds like someone throwing a pipe organ down a flight of stairs.

"The clinking, clanking, clattering collection of caliginous junk!"
Windchimes are truly The Devil's skin tags, and should be dealt with posthaste and forthwith.
I've lived in Philly all my life so I am used to city noises: traffic, sirens, crying babies, motorcycles, people talking on the street, air conditioners(Oy vey!) et al. At least there are reasons for these noises, they are also part and parcel of urban life. BUT, to install something whose ONLY reason to exist is making noise, is beyond the pale and my comprehension. If they disappeared from the Earth, I would not weep.
I need a cookie.

My sister-in-law is one of those people who affects this half-digested "lifestyle" of windchimes, overgrown plants, untamed rosebushes, etc. She thinks it's relaxing, because every woman in the world is being told to slow down and relax because they all work so hard and here! Buy my stuff!
And always music in the background. The type of music that no one actually listens to or actively enjoys, and it's just always *there*. She has not an original idea in her head but she's rich and just buys things. I truly think that she is trying to buy a lifestyle instead of just having a life. Oh, and of course, pre-fab distressed armoires (not from the 90s, and yet another one came 3 months ago) and books scattered about in some faux-Provencal living room landscape. I'm not one of those "either the wallpaper goes or I do" Marys but her house drives me crazy.

R13, are you BILL TAYLOR?

Robin Quivers loves wind chimes and Howard does a hilarious skit where they start playing insanely loud chimes and drown her out.

I do, under the eave on my back porch, which faces the north. It never rings unless there's a change in the weather, usually signifying the coming of autumn. It's not particularly loud, and does not carry to other houses, except perhaps distantly.

Not wind chimes per se, but bronze wind bells. These have been made for decades started by architect Paolo Soleri as a fundraiser for his foundation that has been building a city in the Arizona desert called Arconosanti.. They are handcrafted and unique and have lovely tones. They make perfect gifts, I tend to give them to people when they buy a new house. His house and studio are open to visit in Scottsdale Arizona where you can pick them out in person, or you can order them online.

Ive got about half a dozen, but they are all rather small and make a light tinkling noise . My house sits in the middle of an acre and a half yard,so I doubt they disturb the neighbors. I love when its a windy day,its such a pretty sound.

I don't currently have any, but I did own some a very long time ago. They were quite fine-textured bamboo chimes from SE Asia, They produced a very light, musical tone. I can't imagine owning any right now.

I like them if they are about 100 ft or more away.

When my mother was still alive, she bought me some wind chimes because she said she saw me admiring them in a store. I don't even remember looking at them but I was probably thinking, glad my neighbors don't have these. So after she died I sold them in a garage sale, my neighbor two doors down bought them, that is the perfect distance for wind chimes, two lots away, if you hear them at all it was very faintly.

I like them if they are in the next county, perhaps two.
