It deserves to be boycotted for the name alone.

Cracker Barrel is wildly popular. The lines to get there are often very long, and the parking lots are also full of tour buses. Its very good southern food for cheap.

The chicken and dumplings are to die for.

Boycotting stores never works. Remember Chick Fil A? There are more of "them" than us, so Cracker Barrel will have thousands of customers in lockdown who are champing at the bit to see their menu.

In my quest to learn why OP says that Cracker Barrel is next on some hit list, I went to the Facebook page titled "Boycott Cracker Barrel" and did not find an explanation, but did find a sign proclaiming:

Cracker Barrel did have an anti-gay stance back in the late 80s but they totally reformed. They were even recognized by some civil rights organizations for changing their gay policies.

I live in the South and I can attest that's true. There's a server at my CB who makes Jack McFarland look like GI Joe.

The biggest Cracker Barrel scandal has shades of SOYLENT GREEN. They lure old people in and secretly pick off the feeble ones. Then they boil them down in huge pots and turn them into that white gravy that's on everything. When you find a hair in your white gravy with biscuits, that's an old person's leg hair.

And they grind their bones into the little "ceramic" tchotchkes in the shop. Adorable little puppies and cherubs made from femurs and hips.

NOTHING about Cracker Barrel's food is, "but it's so good" or "their _____ is so amazing."

It's mediocre at best, and even that's a stretch.

R54, there are a lot of copycat recipes for Cracker Barrel's hashbrown casserole on-line, including the one linked below. Some of them note that you could replace the Cream of Chicken soup with Cream of Cheddar or Cream of Celery or Cream of Onion, and you could either replace or augment the grated cheese topping with crushed cornflakes or Ritz crackers. I live in Calif, so I've never visited a Cracker Barrel restaurant nor eaten their hashbrown casserole -- it sounds unhealthy as hell, but probably does taste good. Thanks for introducing me to it (I guess ...).

R55, I've tried several of these recipes and I can't quite get it to turn out like Cracker Barrel's. My cousin works as a waitress at Cracker Barrel but she says she's sworn to secrecy. I think once they bake it, they run it under a broiler because theirs seems crispier than what comes from these recipes. Also, there's something else that binds it together because using one of the cream soups tends to make it a bit sloppy and Cracker Barrel's seems to hold together more.

I ate at one in Toronto because my highly religious aunt, who is also highly insensitive, moved way the hell into the burbs and that was the ONLY restaurant around. Oddly, they had a Thai Beef dish (not kidding) on this little "Healthy Options" menu. It was pretty good really considering I am an insufferable ethnic food snob from LA and eat at authentic places and have even travelled all over the world. Well it was good until she side eyed me and asked "you don't keep Lent?" My folks raised me atheist so the thought didn't even cross my mind. Her Lent didn't prevent her from downing 2 cocktails and then driving lime a moron to introduce me to her Greek fiancee. Crazy woman.
