I have watched The Flash since the beginning and have been thinking about calling it quits.

The character of Barry is just awful he has two modes: mopey or self-righteous - just an awful take on the character. The first season was so much fun it's just been downer after down after downer. Honestly, the supporting cast has been much better - Hartley, Danielle, Carlos - I actually find the characters somewhat engaging. And of course Jesse L. Martin who I would watch in almost anything - but maybe it is time to call it quits.

the flash went downhill with s2. must've been using the same writers as s1 legends, because after s1 legends has been amazing and it's just completely different from the other arrowverse shows. filler episodes on shows like the flash can be infuriating because they're just completely sidetracking from the main story to do something else for the sake of hitting the 20+ episode mark. with legends, the filler episodes fell like a regular episode and they're still fun to watch. iirc the flash is guaranteed to get up to s7. but it's going the exact same route as arrow, so they should just end it. there's only so many times where you can write barry as being unable to run faster than everyone else. supergirl s1 was great, loved it and was bummed when cbs cancelled it. the cw picked it up and turned it to complete trash

I liked Hartley as Elongated Man. Added much needed humor to the dour proceedings on the Flash. Nonetheless, I dropped the show a year ago when they brought in Barry's daughter from the future. Show had been tedious for a while and the more convoluted they made it, the less I enjoyed it.

First two seasons of Supergirl were great. Season Three was so so. The last two have been awful. Don't plan to watch when it returns for the fall.

Both shows seem more interested in special effects than plot.

All that said, really excited about the new Superman and Lois series. But given that it's Berlanti's team doing it, I suspect they'll figure out how to fuck it up pretty quickly.

When actors audition they are now asked for their social media handles so that casting agents can see how many followers they have. I would think common sense would tell actors to make sure their socials are impeccable so that things like this Sawyer situation doesn't come up. R137: Let's be serious, Berlanti is awful writing gay roles but he hires a lot of openly gay actors. It's absurd to pretend he is a self hated homophobe.

And writing very bad gay characters or storylines is pretty common on gay showrunners and screenplayers. We have that awful homophobic storyline in the first season of Quantico, that british tv show where the creator thought it was a fantastic idea if the gay character marry a woman, the way Teen Wolf put gay characters on the sides making them tokens for seasons.

And then you have a straight writer like the one on Spartacus that refused to apologize for his gay characters (even when a big part of the fandom were straight men) and he treated them like the rest of characters, some died (but exactly the same with beloved straight characters) unlike the tragic death of a gay character that happened in a lot of supposedly pro-gay shows

Spartacus is really not a great example. When it started they made a big deal about having a gay gladiator. Spoilers. He was killed after only a few episodes and his twink partner was killed the following episode. That was the end of that. The second 'prequel" season brought back that dead gladiator but did nothing with him. The final two seasons made up for it with a good gay relationship.

They had gay characters in every season, some died, but Nassir and Agron survived at the end of the show.

It's not about making gay characters perfect and portray "good examples" it's about treating gay characters the same way you treat the straight ones.

I'm sure if Berlanti ever allowed an openly gay male character on one of his shows, he'd quickly saddle that character with full blown AIDS or just have a super villain murder him.

He had plenty of opportunity to have a central gay character on these shows. Diggle on Arrow, Cisco on Flash, Wynn on Supergirl.

Berlanti's gays are NOT as good as the straight, lesbian, pan characters.

Not a huge surprise if it's a female lead show. Although Supergirl only has Alex and Kelly.

There are permanent, lead, long-standing lesbian characters on the four shows I named, R166, who have been in practically every episode and all of whom have their own, sometimes changing love interests. There is not one gay character in the whole Arrowverse who comes remotely close. Mr Terrific comes closest, a consistently gay character across several seasons with at least two relationships. Otherwise its Constantine's single episode with an ex-boyfriend and half a dozen appearances by Citizen Cold and the Ray (the latter was I think killed off in Crisis, maybe Cold as well).

Remember gay Captain Cold was the Earth X version. The Captain Cold in Season 1 was straight or at least closeted.

I could never believe Captain Cold of any Earth was straight - not with Wentworth hamming it up on every line delivery. He always made me think of Eartha Kitt on Batman.

All of these shows are ratings disasters. This includes Supergirl, which now has less than 20% of its Season 1 rating. Batwoman had an average of 1.65 million viewers per episode, which is awful for a debuting season. Black Lightning is the worst of bunch.
