Trump withdraws republican convention from North Carolina.

With only two months left before the convention was set to take place, the don has decided he didn't like he way North Carolina's governor was going to keep in place social distancing and regulate restaurants and bars for the safety of the 19000 people expected to attend.

I'm sure the public officials of Charlotte must be devastated, not having to provide security and extra protection because of riots. What a relief!

He's taking his marbles and going home. LOSER!

With all the protests it really seems arbitrary that we're still talking about social distancing, though. What the heck is the point supposed to be?

by Anonymousreply 1June 3, 2020 2:15 AM

He's gonna have it at MAGA lardass.

Watch!

by Anonymousreply 2June 3, 2020 2:17 AM

He will probably have it in Florida, god knows DeSantis will bend over to give Trump everything he wants.

The governor of NC is a Dem, and god knows Trump can't stand anyone not kissing his ass.

by Anonymousreply 5June 3, 2020 2:24 AM

Good riddance, says Charlotte.

by Anonymousreply 6June 3, 2020 2:24 AM

No, I don't think the social distancing and other precautions are arbitrary. North Carolina was already dealing with increasing cases and deaths from COVID-19 when all the protests started.

At least the protesters are outside, and it seems large numbers are wearing face masks. Most of them actually seem pretty fit, and younger than most conventioneers.

The Republicans would be crammed into small indoor venues, smoking/ eating, drinking/ carousing as much as possible. You know none would be wearing face masks if their leaders refuse to do so. And getting the facilities disinfected regularly? Not happening.

Trump can take his toys and play elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 7June 3, 2020 2:30 AM

Texas would bring the problem of having a former president, now living in the state, who would refuse to go to the convention.

Pretty sure it'll be Florida, possibly Orlando, which has the second-largest convention center in the country (behind Chicago's McCormick Place), and we all know Donald is impressed by size. His delegates will probably be thrilled to go to the Haus of Maus as well.

Orlando in August .... they'll be dropping like MAGA flies in the broiling heat and humidity.

by Anonymousreply 8June 3, 2020 2:32 AM

I dont want him here but if he comes to Orlando, I want someone with Covid to breathe into the AC systemtl and kill those fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 9June 3, 2020 2:34 AM

He's talking about Nashville. Uh, hasn't Nashville become a pretty blue city?

by Anonymousreply 10June 3, 2020 2:34 AM

They've said they are looking at Nashville, Georgia and Florida.... NOT Texas.

by Anonymousreply 11June 3, 2020 2:34 AM

Basically all cities are blue r10, you can't really avoid that. Tennessee is still a very red state though.

by Anonymousreply 12June 3, 2020 2:40 AM

Nashville is a blue-ish purple. Tennessee, as a state, is the fucking pits, though. Just the worst of the worst.

by Anonymousreply 14June 3, 2020 2:44 AM

Yes, please have this full convention! They’re weak if they wear masks or socially distant themselves.

Conservative, show America what you’re made of

by Anonymousreply 15June 3, 2020 2:47 AM

What does he want? A state that will allow people to not wear masks and be up close together to infect one another? Be my guest

by Anonymousreply 16June 3, 2020 2:52 AM

Git them all within spittin distance of each other.

by Anonymousreply 17June 3, 2020 2:54 AM

Maybe Georgia and he can wear a KKK outfit

by Anonymousreply 18June 3, 2020 2:55 AM

[quote] A state that will allow people to not wear masks and be up close together to infect one another?

Trump knows he's going out, and he wants to go out in full dumpster fire mode, taking as many of his own people with him as possible. It's very Jim Jones.

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2020 2:56 AM

Orlando, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Nashville and Georgia were named by RNC as possible locations. I guess he entire state of Georgia qualifies.

by Anonymousreply 20June 3, 2020 2:58 AM

R20, I'm surprised he would choose Vegas. LV is the main reason Nevada keeps going blue as of late, I believe.

Trump Says RNC Will Pull Republican Convention From North Carolina

The state’s Democratic governor refused to guarantee that tens of thousands of people could gather at an indoor arena, citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The convention was never going to happen in NC. Trump wants it at his Florida property to line his pockets with cash before he loses.

[quote] [R20], I'm surprised he would choose Vegas. LV is the main reason Nevada keeps going blue as of late, I believe.

Vegas is a no-go. Too close to CA, the protests would make the 1968 Demcratic Convention in Chicago look like an Easter Parade.

by Anonymousreply 25June 3, 2020 5:15 AM

Even if the protesters are "fit and younger", they can pass on the virus to someone who is vulnerable, older and likely to die.

by Anonymousreply 26June 3, 2020 5:37 AM

What state would want that loser convention? There will be protests, probably riots, the spread of virus, and a whole bunch of assholes in your city.

The cost of protecting the venue would far outweigh the benefits of being overrun by greedy whities.

by Anonymousreply 27June 3, 2020 6:04 AM

This GOP convention without a home is like the old NYC garbage barge that traveled the world looking for a place to dock. Nobody wanted to host it either.

by Anonymousreply 28June 3, 2020 6:17 AM

How about Moscow, comrade?

by Anonymousreply 29June 3, 2020 6:22 AM

I bet the RNC is panicking right now -- August is only 2 months away. People can't make travel arrangements until the new location is settled. And even with coronavirus canceling a lot of conventions, I'm not sure how many centers can say "sure, we have it all wide open then -- come on in!"

by Anonymousreply 30June 3, 2020 7:24 AM

The RNC can panic all they want, Trump has been screwing them over for years now, making wild impromptu decisions and making them all rush around to cover his ass. If they didn't like it they should have said so ages ago.

by Anonymousreply 31June 3, 2020 7:29 AM

This will cause even more chaos in the White House. Imagine all the work the Trump loyalists and lowly staffers will have to do. So many details to plan an event of this size.

by Anonymousreply 32June 3, 2020 7:30 AM

He just lost North Carolina to Biden. He’s not hurting the Democratic governor. He’s hurting all those local people who have planned for months to make money from all those folks coming in for the convention. Coronavirus aware, they could have worked through delivery services to provide what was needed. A real idiot.

by Anonymousreply 41June 3, 2020 11:00 AM

Since when does the president of any party select where their party's convention is held? Perhaps past presidents have had some input, but wouldn't the party leadership make the arrangement?

We know that if he's involved the convention is going to be a shit fest.

I can hardly wait.

by Anonymousreply 42June 3, 2020 11:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 43June 3, 2020 11:22 AM

Wherever it's held I'm hoping the attendance is greatly reduced because of fear of coronavirus. I could die happy if they had their convention to a half empty arena somewhere.

Um, people, there won't be a convention. This was all part of the plan. COVID and the demonstrations have turned in to surprisingly convenient posturing for the fact that Trump and his allies don't want a convention, because they do not want anything to change. There is no need to discuss policies. It's a dictatorship.

[quote]He just lost North Carolina to Biden.

Actually this is exactly what has happened. His polling showed Biden much farther ahead in NC than they thought, and with Texas and Florida in play, he wants to move the convention to one of them to shore up a state with more EVs. With Florida, and this being Trump, there is also the grift factor where the family can personally profit from a convention near South Florida (Doral or Mar a Lago), so I would look for them to try to get BB&T Center in Sunrise, or if he does go for Orlando, Amway center for obvious DeVos reasons.

I hope the 200,000 new angry Florida Puerto Ricans he made homeless in Maria give him the warmest Boricuan welcome. 💣🧨🔪🔫

by Anonymousreply 59June 3, 2020 5:09 PM

Wherever he holds it there will be protests and riots. People despise this fat man with the heat of a thousand suns.

by Anonymousreply 60June 3, 2020 8:04 PM

It’s going to have to be a Trump property. Nobody can get ready that quickly. Plus the Secret Service would have to look the venue over very carefully and probably add a lot of cameras and other security arrangements most places wouldn’t have already.

I could see some Las Vegas casinos being very high security already and having a good camera system, but it’s a bad fit because Vegas is blue. And they’d probably have to severely restrict entrance or shut the whole place down for security reasons. Maybe they could do it at Trump Tower in Las Vegas.

Mar-a-Lago is already vetted by the Secret Service and the locals love Trump. I wonder if he backed out thinking they’d have to have it there and he could charge the RNC for the venue.

by Anonymousreply 61June 3, 2020 9:27 PM

Part of me thinks he’s bluffing, but then I remember Dump is all about creating mayhem and them walking away, leaving everyone else to clean up his mess. Is Mar-a-Lago even big enough to hold a convention? For that matter, don’t they need an indoor-stadium-sized venue?

by Anonymousreply 62June 3, 2020 10:06 PM

It's very difficult to plan a meeting like this. If it does, in fact, move, it may be a sign that the Charlotte meeting wasn't very well planned anyway. But moving to a new place with no security issues, etc. will be a nightmare. I'm sure some empty convention center would theoretically be happy to host something but they won't be well prepared and secret service will be overstretched.

by Anonymousreply 63June 3, 2020 10:11 PM

Whomp, whomp!

by Anonymousreply 64June 3, 2020 10:20 PM

Last I read they’re keeping most of the convention in NC. Trump refuses to accept the nomination from there. The appearances he makes will be done remotely. Could have been bad reporting tho. Who knows these days? So much false information swirling about. All I care about is how his actions and refusals make him and his party look. Spoiled. Entitled. Above rules others live with. Petulant. Childish. Uncaring about how their actions affect others. Threatening. Stupid. Perhaps that’s their platform. Who cares? I’ve made my mind up already.

by Anonymousreply 65June 3, 2020 11:05 PM

Non-American here. So it can be that easy for Trump to save face by simply refusing to accept the nomination?

by Anonymousreply 71June 4, 2020 12:31 AM

No, I don't believe Mar-a-Lago is big enough to hold a major political national convention. It probably could host meetings, a small- to moderate sized conference for a couple of days. But a convention, which is different than a conference? No.

For a convention, you need a convention hall or a sports arena such as Madison Square Garden or the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 72June 4, 2020 12:49 AM

I don't believe Trump is moving shit. It's another one of his empty threats.

by Anonymousreply 73June 4, 2020 12:51 AM

Cincinnati used to be called " Porkopolis."

Readily available salt, a large immigrant workforce and the system of canals down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers helped the city cement its place in hog-producing heaven. In 1833, more than 85,000 pigs were processed in Cincinnati, and by 1844, 26 different meat-processing plants were located here. Cincinnati was the biggest city in the West by 1850 and quickly earned the nickname "Porkopolis."

It will be in FLa and Trump will stay at Mar-a-Lago, which he will order fortified and renovated at govt expense.

If Texas loves the assholes...that might be fair...or maybe the fools in Utah?

by Anonymousreply 123June 6, 2020 2:52 AM

I am afraid it will be in Florida. I hope a plane crashes into whatever convention center it is held at. Right when Trump gets up to speechifying...a plane could crash. That would be heaven. All the big wig Republicans would be there, along with Battle, Pompeo and McConnell.

Winner at R124. trumpie will make his acceptance speech in Jacksonville. I had a friend that used to live there, and he called it the armpit of the nation, that's how much he hated living there.

by Anonymousreply 125June 12, 2020 3:45 PM

Florida - during Hurricane season. What could possibly go wrong?

by Anonymousreply 126June 12, 2020 3:49 PM

The only people I know from Jacksonville are poor white trash bigots.

It sounds like the majority of the convention will still take place in North Carolina, while the big crowning ceremony with Trump will take place in Jacksonville. So essentially Trump's cost the RNC a lot of money to try to assuage his fragile ego.

"Arizona in August would be heaven"

Florida could give it a run for its money. When it's 100 F and the humidity is 90% - now that's misery. I lived in Gainesville for years and it often would reach 100 in May.

Anyway, Florida makes more sense than North Carolina because it's more of a purple state - Hillary only lost by 1.2 points. Hope it's Orlando - even hotter - no ocean breeze or beach. But Jacksonville is suitably trashy and deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 128June 12, 2020 4:16 PM

Anybody who has spent any time in Jacksonville knows that it is a perfect place to hold the RNC convention. It exemplifies and amplifies every evil trait of today's Republicans, and especially Trump devotees.

(Oddly enough, the JSO - Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra - is one of the best symphony orchestras I have EVER experienced. One would think that all culture - such as it is in Jax - would be dreadful.)

THey should have gone to Vegas. Then they can flip Nevada. .....NOT.

by Anonymousreply 130June 12, 2020 8:47 PM

Lol I think Jacksonville only has one full-service hotel. The rest are best western types.

by Anonymousreply 131June 12, 2020 9:03 PM

How far is Orlando from Jacksonville.? They'll have to bus people. But the convention will be divided. So whos going to be in Charlotte??

by Anonymousreply 132June 12, 2020 9:24 PM

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he will accept the Republican Party's nomination this August in Florida. His address to the nation will happen in Jacksonville on the 60th anniversary of a Ku Klux Klan attack in the city known as "Ax Handle Saturday."

On Aug. 27, 1960, a KKK-led mob of hundreds of white people attacked black civil rights protesters holding sit-ins at whites-only lunch counters in the city, chasing them through the streets and beating them with bats and ax handles stashed in Hemming Park.

r132 Basically all of the delegates will be in North Carolina, voting for Trump. Trump, with his entourage, will be in Jacksonville, Florida. So the vast majority will be in North Carolina giving speeches and having seminars, etc., and Trump will be there with a much smaller group of people, likely holding a rally when he accepts the nomination.

This doesn't hurt North Carolina's tourism at all, because the hotels, restaurants, etc. will still be booked and full of the delegates and their associates. It'll actually probably be even nicer for the people in North Carolina at the convention because they don't have to deal with the added security by Trump's secret service (or as he would say, SS) presence.

[quote] Hope it's Orlando - even hotter

Be that as it may ma sœur r128, when a friend of mine came up from Orlando to visit Chapel Hill in August he couldn’t believe how the dew point affected the perceived temperature. His balls were boiling even at night.
