Trump withdraws republican convention from North Carolina.
With only two months left before the convention was set to take place, the don has decided he didn't like he way North Carolina's governor was going to keep in place social distancing and regulate restaurants and bars for the safety of the 19000 people expected to attend.
I'm sure the public officials of Charlotte must be devastated, not having to provide security and extra protection because of riots. What a relief!

No, I don't think the social distancing and other precautions are arbitrary. North Carolina was already dealing with increasing cases and deaths from COVID-19 when all the protests started.
At least the protesters are outside, and it seems large numbers are wearing face masks. Most of them actually seem pretty fit, and younger than most conventioneers.
The Republicans would be crammed into small indoor venues, smoking/ eating, drinking/ carousing as much as possible. You know none would be wearing face masks if their leaders refuse to do so. And getting the facilities disinfected regularly? Not happening.
Trump can take his toys and play elsewhere.

Texas would bring the problem of having a former president, now living in the state, who would refuse to go to the convention.
Pretty sure it'll be Florida, possibly Orlando, which has the second-largest convention center in the country (behind Chicago's McCormick Place), and we all know Donald is impressed by size. His delegates will probably be thrilled to go to the Haus of Maus as well.
Orlando in August .... they'll be dropping like MAGA flies in the broiling heat and humidity.

Trump Says RNC Will Pull Republican Convention From North Carolina
The state’s Democratic governor refused to guarantee that tens of thousands of people could gather at an indoor arena, citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The convention was never going to happen in NC. Trump wants it at his Florida property to line his pockets with cash before he loses.

Actually this is exactly what has happened. His polling showed Biden much farther ahead in NC than they thought, and with Texas and Florida in play, he wants to move the convention to one of them to shore up a state with more EVs. With Florida, and this being Trump, there is also the grift factor where the family can personally profit from a convention near South Florida (Doral or Mar a Lago), so I would look for them to try to get BB&T Center in Sunrise, or if he does go for Orlando, Amway center for obvious DeVos reasons.

It’s going to have to be a Trump property. Nobody can get ready that quickly. Plus the Secret Service would have to look the venue over very carefully and probably add a lot of cameras and other security arrangements most places wouldn’t have already.
I could see some Las Vegas casinos being very high security already and having a good camera system, but it’s a bad fit because Vegas is blue. And they’d probably have to severely restrict entrance or shut the whole place down for security reasons. Maybe they could do it at Trump Tower in Las Vegas.
Mar-a-Lago is already vetted by the Secret Service and the locals love Trump. I wonder if he backed out thinking they’d have to have it there and he could charge the RNC for the venue.

Part of me thinks he’s bluffing, but then I remember Dump is all about creating mayhem and them walking away, leaving everyone else to clean up his mess. Is Mar-a-Lago even big enough to hold a convention? For that matter, don’t they need an indoor-stadium-sized venue?

It's very difficult to plan a meeting like this. If it does, in fact, move, it may be a sign that the Charlotte meeting wasn't very well planned anyway. But moving to a new place with no security issues, etc. will be a nightmare. I'm sure some empty convention center would theoretically be happy to host something but they won't be well prepared and secret service will be overstretched.

Last I read they’re keeping most of the convention in NC. Trump refuses to accept the nomination from there. The appearances he makes will be done remotely. Could have been bad reporting tho. Who knows these days? So much false information swirling about. All I care about is how his actions and refusals make him and his party look. Spoiled. Entitled. Above rules others live with. Petulant. Childish. Uncaring about how their actions affect others. Threatening. Stupid. Perhaps that’s their platform. Who cares? I’ve made my mind up already.

Florida will take it & Trump will make a deal that FL will have the National Guard in the convention city to prevent riots.

Cincinnati used to be called " Porkopolis."
Readily available salt, a large immigrant workforce and the system of canals down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers helped the city cement its place in hog-producing heaven. In 1833, more than 85,000 pigs were processed in Cincinnati, and by 1844, 26 different meat-processing plants were located here. Cincinnati was the biggest city in the West by 1850 and quickly earned the nickname "Porkopolis."

I am afraid it will be in Florida. I hope a plane crashes into whatever convention center it is held at. Right when Trump gets up to speechifying...a plane could crash. That would be heaven. All the big wig Republicans would be there, along with Battle, Pompeo and McConnell.

Winner at R124. trumpie will make his acceptance speech in Jacksonville. I had a friend that used to live there, and he called it the armpit of the nation, that's how much he hated living there.

Florida - during Hurricane season. What could possibly go wrong?

The only people I know from Jacksonville are poor white trash bigots.
It sounds like the majority of the convention will still take place in North Carolina, while the big crowning ceremony with Trump will take place in Jacksonville. So essentially Trump's cost the RNC a lot of money to try to assuage his fragile ego.

"Arizona in August would be heaven"
Florida could give it a run for its money. When it's 100 F and the humidity is 90% - now that's misery. I lived in Gainesville for years and it often would reach 100 in May.
Anyway, Florida makes more sense than North Carolina because it's more of a purple state - Hillary only lost by 1.2 points. Hope it's Orlando - even hotter - no ocean breeze or beach. But Jacksonville is suitably trashy and deplorable.

Anybody who has spent any time in Jacksonville knows that it is a perfect place to hold the RNC convention. It exemplifies and amplifies every evil trait of today's Republicans, and especially Trump devotees.
(Oddly enough, the JSO - Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra - is one of the best symphony orchestras I have EVER experienced. One would think that all culture - such as it is in Jax - would be dreadful.)

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he will accept the Republican Party's nomination this August in Florida. His address to the nation will happen in Jacksonville on the 60th anniversary of a Ku Klux Klan attack in the city known as "Ax Handle Saturday."
On Aug. 27, 1960, a KKK-led mob of hundreds of white people attacked black civil rights protesters holding sit-ins at whites-only lunch counters in the city, chasing them through the streets and beating them with bats and ax handles stashed in Hemming Park.

r132 Basically all of the delegates will be in North Carolina, voting for Trump. Trump, with his entourage, will be in Jacksonville, Florida. So the vast majority will be in North Carolina giving speeches and having seminars, etc., and Trump will be there with a much smaller group of people, likely holding a rally when he accepts the nomination.
This doesn't hurt North Carolina's tourism at all, because the hotels, restaurants, etc. will still be booked and full of the delegates and their associates. It'll actually probably be even nicer for the people in North Carolina at the convention because they don't have to deal with the added security by Trump's secret service (or as he would say, SS) presence.

[quote] Hope it's Orlando - even hotter
Be that as it may ma sœur r128, when a friend of mine came up from Orlando to visit Chapel Hill in August he couldn’t believe how the dew point affected the perceived temperature. His balls were boiling even at night.
