How much do you recommend tipping movers

I've Googled and it seems to be all over the place with recommendations. I was thinking $20 per guy.

by Anonymousreply 42June 3, 2020 4:04 PM

How hung?

by Anonymousreply 1May 31, 2020 2:44 PM

If its a pretty simple job, 10 bucks a guy is enough. If it is more work go with 20 per guy.

by Anonymousreply 2May 31, 2020 2:47 PM

Thanks R2!

by Anonymousreply 3May 31, 2020 2:55 PM

$40/person

by Anonymousreply 4May 31, 2020 2:57 PM

At least $10 per person

by Anonymousreply 5May 31, 2020 3:16 PM

Depends on what they’re moving... if it’s heavy furniture tip more than $10. That is pretty fucked up.

Clearly you needed them because you couldn’t do it yourself you weak white man. So maybe be kind and tip well since they’re doing what you couldn’t???

by Anonymousreply 6May 31, 2020 3:21 PM

"Youse got some nice things here, pal. Be a shame if something happened to 'em."

by Anonymousreply 7May 31, 2020 4:00 PM

How much and where are you? It will be different in Arkansas than New York. I would tip more due to the pandemic too.

by Anonymousreply 8May 31, 2020 4:15 PM

Exactly r8. Hate people who use services then don’t wanna tip.

by Anonymousreply 9May 31, 2020 4:19 PM

How much is being moved, are there stairs involved, where are you, and how Coronavirus laden (with risk to the movers) is your area? I’m if it’s a one bedroom apartment and there are three movers I can’t imagine not tipping $50-75 per guy

by Anonymousreply 10May 31, 2020 4:24 PM

R10 I'm moving from a one bedroom apartment to a 4 bedroom house.

by Anonymousreply 11May 31, 2020 4:32 PM

$50 to $75 a guy on top of the moving services? I'm typically a generous tipper, but that sounds a little extravagant.

by Anonymousreply 12May 31, 2020 4:33 PM

I do $50/person but I live in NYC

by Anonymousreply 13May 31, 2020 4:38 PM

Whatever you decide, think about it beforehand and don’t waiver.

I have dealt with many movers who will talk incessantly about how other people tipped them so much—all on an effort to get you to tip them more

by Anonymousreply 14May 31, 2020 4:39 PM

Imagine having moving guys move heavy furniture up and down stairs in NYC and tipping $10???

by Anonymousreply 15May 31, 2020 4:44 PM

Because that is extravagant r12. If people want to be that generous, that's your perogative, but it is not expected.

by Anonymousreply 16May 31, 2020 4:56 PM

$40 per mover plus a blow job.

by Anonymousreply 17May 31, 2020 5:12 PM

Present hole!

by Anonymousreply 18May 31, 2020 5:25 PM

If the movers work for a moving company rather than own it themselves they are not getting a lot of the moving fee. Three rely on tips. Particularly if they are carrying heavy shit upstairs. Jeezus you folks are cheap as fuck. How much do you leave for the server when you eat at Red Lobster? 10%?

by Anonymousreply 19May 31, 2020 5:27 PM

I tipped $20/mover plus a six pack of beer for a recent in-city move. They don't get the whole fee, it is true, but they are paid a good wage. They do not rely on tips.

by Anonymousreply 20May 31, 2020 5:28 PM

NYC here, 40-50 per guy depending on how much stuff you have, how heavy the boxes are, stairs vs elevator etc.

A 10 dollar tip per person is insulting, I think. It's like going out to a restaurant - if you can afford to go, you can afford a decent tip.

by Anonymousreply 21May 31, 2020 5:31 PM

We need more details OP. How much stuff? How much heavy stuff? Are there a lot of stairs involved? Are they careful with your stuff? Are they hot, buff n’ sexy?

by Anonymousreply 22May 31, 2020 6:02 PM

Like I said before R22. I'm moving from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 4 bedroom/two story house. They will have to take a bed, a dresser, a tv, a desk and chair, a computer and some boxes upstairs. Everything else remains on the first floor.

I was thinking $20-$25 a mover.

by Anonymousreply 23May 31, 2020 6:22 PM

R23 $25 sounds good.

NOT $10

by Anonymousreply 24May 31, 2020 6:27 PM

Depends on the job. I've had movers work more than a full day, and hard at it, and tipped 75 or 100. For a 1/2 day I'd think 40-50.

by Anonymousreply 25May 31, 2020 6:47 PM

I had new furniture delivered to my apartment last year and gave both of the hot delivery guys head, individually, before they left.

by Anonymousreply 26May 31, 2020 7:47 PM

When they show up, OP, splay out $100 in ones and fan yourself as you follow them around your house packing up your stuff. If you see them handle your precious items roughly sigh loudly and dramatically pluck a bill from your hand, and shove it in your housecoat pocket. They'll get the idea, toot sweet. You're welcome!

by Anonymousreply 27May 31, 2020 7:58 PM

r26, now gurl, you're going to have to give us more details than that!

by Anonymousreply 28May 31, 2020 8:01 PM

R27, gurl my stuff is already packed, shrink wrapped and ready to go. All they have to is move it out of the apartment into the truck and take it to my new place and unload.

by Anonymousreply 29May 31, 2020 8:23 PM

R29 that is their job. Packing isn’t n

by Anonymousreply 30May 31, 2020 8:45 PM

I always give $50 each.

by Anonymousreply 31May 31, 2020 9:06 PM

I moved from a studio to a 1-br 2nd floor apt with a little furniture and lot of boxes and bins. I tipped $20 per guy in Houston.

by Anonymousreply 32May 31, 2020 9:41 PM

I've usually done $20 per person and they seem very happy and surprised to get it

by Anonymousreply 33May 31, 2020 9:57 PM

I had a couple bad experiences with movers here. Obscene ripoffs, so now I never tip them anything.

I need a crane to get large items in and out. It’s something like $500 to arrive and set-zip, plus $50 per item. One time, I coordinated with a neighbor. We both had stuff craned in on the same trip. But the company insisted on charging us both the $500 travel-time and set-up fee. That defeated the entire purpose of us coordinating. I expected us to split the feel. Oh, they didn’t even have to move the crane between lifts, too.

Another time, they were supposed to take a couch out by crane, then carry a chair down the stairs, which wouldn’t incur an additional charge. It was covered by their arrival and set-up fee. While I wasn’t looking, they craned-out the chair, for their convenience, and charged me $50 for it.

Each time, I though, “Well, there goes your tip”, and I won’t tip them again in the future. City living incurs all kinds of unexpected expenses!

There are a few crane companies, but the biggest ones are all owned by the same people, so it’s like a monopoly.

by Anonymousreply 34June 1, 2020 5:26 AM

Follow up. My movers were so awesome that I tipped them $56 each. Best move experience ever.

by Anonymousreply 35June 3, 2020 2:03 AM

I tipped cross country movers 200 after they delivered.

by Anonymousreply 36June 3, 2020 2:19 AM

Hell, you got to move OP? Lucky you? I’m still in lockdown, surrounded by my boxed up possessions, fantasising about the day I have the tipping dilemma.

by Anonymousreply 37June 3, 2020 2:50 AM

I am in California and last time I moved I paid all 3 guys $100 each.

by Anonymousreply 38June 3, 2020 2:52 AM

Yes R37, Moving companies never closed. They were deemed essential services.

by Anonymousreply 39June 3, 2020 3:11 AM

Here in Scotland we’ve got to wait for at least another 2 weeks. Property deals are falling apart meantime.

by Anonymousreply 40June 3, 2020 3:17 AM

I haven't moved in 22 years, but when I did I moved from a third floor walk up to a ground floor apartment about a mile way. It took about 4 hours, the two guys charged me for two hours (the minimum) and I tipped them $200. It cost me the same as the four hour price, but they each pocketed $100.

by Anonymousreply 41June 3, 2020 3:19 AM

I recommend it highly. Lot easier than tipping cows.... Oh wait
