Allan Carr: What a Hoot

I was in my early 20s when I attended one of his fabulous parties in the Hollywood Hills, must have been a year or two after Can't Stop the Music. Ann Miller was there and a few other old time celebs, but after 1am most of the heteros left and it was an all male bacchanal. I was so impressed and horrified at the same time.

He was very touchy-feely towards any guy he had the hots for, but I don't think he followed through with any of them. Thankfully I never had to get it up for him as I was a guest of another tv/theater producer. He seemed like an old queen with too much money and caftans, not my type at all.

Anyone have any memories to share from the late 70s or 80s?

He was never a man's man.

by Anonymousreply 105/23/2020

I hate people who say “What a hoot?”

by Anonymousreply 205/23/2020

The thought of having to lay naked with that thing would turn me straight.

by Anonymousreply 305/23/2020

He was...

by Anonymousreply 405/23/2020

R3. That's what Allan thought about you too....

by Anonymousreply 505/23/2020

Allan Carr turned both Russell Todd and Howard McGillin GAY

They were married to women BEFORE they met Allan Carr

After they met Allan both turned gay

by Anonymousreply 605/23/2020

Sounds like he gave great parties. In classic Hollywood fashion, ugly rich guy with lots of pretty boys hanging around. Such a decadent city.

by Anonymousreply 705/23/2020

Op, why was Alan Carr feeling up Olivia Newton-John’s boyfriend, Matt Lattanzi??

by Anonymousreply 805/23/2020

I first heard of Alan Carr from one of Dennis Miller’s rants (this one was when he guested on Politically Incorrect) with his random ass pop culture references. Then I did some research on who he was — no wonder he was a DL icon.

They did a Grease: Behind Close Doors on REELZ fairly recently. What a bloated coked up mess he was.

by Anonymousreply 905/23/2020

He is a fabulous story. I would like to see a Biography on him.

by Anonymousreply 1005/23/2020

R10 just read the book

Russell Todd and Howard McGillin both talk about how Allan turned them both gay (while they were married to women)

by Anonymousreply 1105/23/2020

We have Grease and La Cage (Broadway) to thank Allan for. I know people like to shit on him for that awful Oscar show with Snow White, but he did gift the gays with some cultural moments, oh, and don't forget Can't Stop the Music with Bruce/Caitlin.

by Anonymousreply 1205/23/2020

He destroyed my career.

by Anonymousreply 1305/23/2020

by Anonymousreply 1405/23/2020

We have Allan to thank for Howard McGillin's huge penis being set free.

by Anonymousreply 1505/23/2020

Is he The Chatty Man?

by Anonymousreply 1605/23/2020

Ask and ye shall receive, r10.

[R17], one of my friends was a producer on that doc. He let me watch a rough cut before it was released, and I remember telling him that Carr didn't seem like the most upstanding guy. I recall a lot of cartoon sequences, and my friend was pretty upset that Ann-Margret wouldn't participate, as she and her husband had been close to Carr for many years.

by Anonymousreply 1805/23/2020

Wasn't he the originally source of the gay caftan meme here on DL? Pretty sure he was.

by Anonymousreply 1905/23/2020

Besides the obvious BDF, how do we know Howard McGillin’s penis is huge? Any pics?...

by Anonymousreply 2005/23/2020

I read a biography of Carr a few years ago but do not recall the title. Lots of caftan pics. He wold balloon up and slim down.

OP did you go to the basement disco?

by Anonymousreply 2105/23/2020

Different Alan Carr, R16. This one has two Ls (Allan) and is dead.

by Anonymousreply 2205/23/2020

THANK YOU ALLAN CAR FOR "WHERE THE BOYS ARE 84"!... simply for the gigolo stud in the leopard skin bikini on the beach and even MORE SO the dark haired tanned gorgeous built guy in the white speedos in the hot bod contest scene!...

by Anonymousreply 2305/23/2020

R21 It's called Party Animals and it's fabulous...and sad.

by Anonymousreply 2405/23/2020

[quote] Party Animals and it's fabulous...and sad.

and Howard McGillin talks openly in the book on how Allan Carr turned him gay, despite Howard being married to a woman

by Anonymousreply 2505/23/2020

He not only was two hoots.

He had two hooters.

by Anonymousreply 2605/23/2020

fat, nasty, coked up Qween who only cared about pretty gays or straight men desperate for cash or an acting role. Typical user.

by Anonymousreply 2705/24/2020

[quote] fat, nasty, coked up Qween who only cared about pretty gays or straight men desperate for cash

Swap out the pile of coke for a box of Entemann's and you've described 90 percent of DL's user base.

by Anonymousreply 2805/24/2020

[quote] how do we know Howard McGillin’s penis is huge?

by Anonymousreply 2905/24/2020

He must have offered coke to his guests and not used way could be that hefty in a caftan if he was a cokehead,

by Anonymousreply 3005/24/2020

After years of use speed users type fat!

by Anonymousreply 3105/24/2020

He made us fuck in his pool while he watched.

by Anonymousreply 3205/24/2020

He was a self-indulgent pig and a chicken hawk. He made my skin crawl. He put the moves on a couple of my friends while in SF shooting CSTM. I warned them to stay away.

by Anonymousreply 3305/24/2020

Did you clutch your pearls in horror r33?

by Anonymousreply 3405/24/2020

How old were your friends, R33?

by Anonymousreply 3505/24/2020

I totally believe the stories about him videotaping sex sessions in his various guest bedrooms featuring such notables as Christopher Atkins and George Maharis.

by Anonymousreply 3605/24/2020

r35...19 and 20. I was 23.

by Anonymousreply 3705/24/2020

Your bulb shines bright r36

by Anonymousreply 3805/24/2020

Rob Lowe must have slapped him hard after that Snow White debacle

by Anonymousreply 3905/24/2020

Oh, everyone just accept the damn blow job and STFU.

by Anonymousreply 4005/24/2020

the Allen Carr doc referred to earlier (Fabulous Allen Carr) has been on Amazon Prime and is loads of fun to watch. As enjoyable - though totally different tone and vibe - as the Scotty Bowers doc. Recommended!

by Anonymousreply 4105/24/2020

He really got even with Rock Hudson at the end of his life. Allan wanted him for a role in La Cage on broadway. rock expressed interest initially but then got the aids diagnosis and left allan hanging and eventually signed for 10 episodes of Dynasty. He thought he could physically do that but not broadway. He couldnt tell Carr the reason as Carr would have it all over town in 10 minutes. Carr spread the gossip anyway over what he suspected. Carr was not well liked in showbiz circles especially. I imagine he was king of the casting couch for a while. I WILL say Allan Carr had excellent tastes in personal residences/

by Anonymousreply 4205/24/2020

Allan Carr is a jealous pig of a man. He is a prime example of why people hate the mincing gay fem types.

by Anonymousreply 4305/24/2020

Who wouldn't have wanted to get close to Matthew Lattanzi?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4405/24/2020

Are those the only two documentaries you've seen, r41?

by Anonymousreply 4505/24/2020

Matt Lattanzi sounds gay as a goose in that clip, no wonder his film career went dead shortly thereafter. He gave off a gay vibe with that voice, but he was married to ONJ. I don't think she needed to beard for anyone.

by Anonymousreply 4605/24/2020

R11 Can a person be 'turned gay?' Wouldn't they be turned into a bisexual? I thought that once a man enjoys a relationship with a woman, he can no longer be considered gay. There is no such thing as 'strictly gay'; you are or you aren't. I'm reminded of the phrase 'a little bit pregnant.'

by Anonymousreply 4705/24/2020

Allan Carr hired many gay actors over the years and launched more than a few careers. He is not that bad in the scheme of things.

by Anonymousreply 4805/25/2020

Frank DeCaro mentioned in the documentary that Carr convinced Baskin Robbins to release a Village People-flavored ice cream to promote their movie called "Can't Stop the Nuts," which is wrong on very, many levels.

Call me nuts, but I don't think America was ready for the Village People's unstoppable nuts!

He was on a talk-show with Edna Everage back in the 80s.

It seems something sleazy happened backstage and Edna was very cold saying that she never had to do what he did and that was BUY friends.

by Anonymousreply 5405/25/2020

Who was Christopher Atkins having sex with in the famous video?

Any more news on Russell Todd? Didn’t know he was gay. He was sexy as hell in Friday the 13th Part II.

by Anonymousreply 5505/26/2020

Watched the documentary last night. Really enjoyed it. He certainly had issues but seemed like a nice guy. It's ironic that after his Oscars' show, the Academy received a letter signed by lots of actors complaining how it was the worst thing ever. I wonder how those still alive feel about it now in the age of dragging in unsuspecting tourists to be treated like peasants.

by Anonymousreply 5605/26/2020

For anyone who liked the documentary, there are some good outtakes on this youtube channel.

The Friday the 13th and Where the Boys Are threads are full of gossip on Russell Todd, r55.

He is a nice guy who does conventions and Youtube videos. Now he works for Steadicam.
