What theme song from TV show or movie from the 70s or 80s is a guilty pleasure that makes you feel nostalgic?

The opening scene from Teen Witch is great and Dan Gauthier looks good. I rented this movie alot when I was a kid.

Theme tunes to Knight Rider and oddly enough Neighbours make me nostalgic for the “good old days”
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 23, 2020 1:22 PM |
More of an "unofficial theme song." Loved this damn show, no guilt here. I miss the 80s so much.

Greatest American Hero. Fun song, cute guy. Dumb show.

Ready to Take a Chance Again from Foul Play.

Yes, I know it's from the 60s but it does it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 23, 2020 2:46 PM |
Wow, that was the song that jumped immediately to my mind, even before I even realized OP posted it.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 23, 2020 2:48 PM |
^ The William Katt show one I mean
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 23, 2020 2:48 PM |
Was that Courtney Love in the vid in the OP?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 23, 2020 3:01 PM |
Oh...movies, too?
Not even remotely guilty, my pleasure in this theme song. But what nostalgiafication.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 23, 2020 3:25 PM |
The theme from "The Jeffersons".
Always gets me into a little jig.

R17 I loved HSB and its opening. First seasons were perfect. I loved LA Law for its first five seasons including the opening. This is season 3 from 89.

This always puts me into a good mood. Terrible show, but great mysterious theme song.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 23, 2020 9:15 PM |
Let’s not forget Bill Conti and night soaps Dalla Dynasty Falcon Crest etc. Season 8 and the most majestic music and Susan’s turning around was institution of it own

I was huge Lauren Tewes fan. Just look at those guest stars! Huge cast.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 23, 2020 9:32 PM |
Truly a guilty pleasure, because it's pretty damn awful, but that's what makes it so great.

All 9 versions of the theme song from Alice. I wish Linda Lavin would re-record all of them and release them on iTunes.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 23, 2020 10:43 PM |
I was too young for this show, but used to always watch the credits. There’s something very calming about the song and the footage of the taxi crossing the Queensboro Bridge.

For Your Eyes Only

The theme song from Super Fuzz is corny but infectious. The movie is mildly terrible but still fun and lighthearted. It was a quarantine rental. The Italian star is extremely handsome although his American accent is unconvincing. His cop buddy is Ernest Borgnine.

R25- His HUNKY brother played an astronaut in the TV series Return To The Planet Of The Apes in 1974.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 23, 2020 11:58 PM |
James Naughton r40? Definitely the hunkier of the two. But I never connected them as brothers until your post. Of course it makes perfect sense.

Hart to Hart, Season 4 only. The other seasons do not have the same piano part.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 24, 2020 12:18 AM |
I thought "The Goodbye Girl" should have won the Oscar for Best Song that year. It perfectly complemented the movie it was based on.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 24, 2020 12:22 AM |
Endless Love. The movie is not good, but the song is sublime. And you have to admit, Brooke Shields was a beauty for the ages.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 24, 2020 12:50 AM |
Brooke Shields was a kid in that movie. Did all the straight guy pedos invade this site?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 24, 2020 12:56 AM |
^I'm as queer as a three dollar bill. She was sixteen in the movie, the correct age for high school.

(R46) Olivia was 29 and Stockard was 33 in Grease. Twice as old as they should have been.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 24, 2020 1:09 AM |
R50- Flash Gordon was certainly better CRAP than the Olivia Newton John vehicle- Xanadu.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 24, 2020 1:38 AM |
It’s really just Sinatra but that’s not so bad. Wonder how much they had to pay to use it?

Room 222, from the 70s. 80s, Pretty In Pink (from that film) , Old Time Rock n Roll (Risky Business), Crazy For You (Madonna, Vision Quest).

Vegas had a great theme and it makes me think of the great Robert Urich.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 24, 2020 2:06 AM |
R5 The Simon and Simon theme is etched into my head not because I watched the show, but because for many years it preceded Knot's Landing on Thursday nights. I was in front of the tv every Thursday evening by 9:55.
I wonder how many other DL'ers that is true for.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 24, 2020 2:21 AM |
R23 I came to post that same version. Great cast that year.

The theme from Maude.
That was my favorite show as a kid

"Endless Love. The movie is not good, but the song is sublime."
That song SUCKED. Makes me gag to hear it.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 24, 2020 3:50 AM |
Several versions of this theme hit a melancholy, nostalgic spot, but this one in particular brings out the MARY! in me.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 24, 2020 4:16 AM |
I know it's corny, but I love the theme song from Green Acres. My BF bought a huge house out in the boondocks, and he's constantly sending me photos of different wildlife for me to identify, I started calling him Lisa Douglas, which he didn't like at all (at first) but he finally began to enjoy the humor, Now, when he calls and calls me 'Olivah!" that's his code that he's having some kind of wildlife crisis.

I agree r44, "Goodbye Girl" is an excellent song. It's a shame it wasn't even nominated for the Oscar.
The winner that year:
"You Light Up My Life" - Debby Boone

Not sure why R25 would consider the theme to Makin' It so awful. IMO it was a catchy song, no better or worse than most songs from the Disco era and it actually made its way to the Top 10 in the US and some other countries, staying near the tops of the charts for several weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 24, 2020 3:18 PM |
He was mostly famous for his DR PEPPER commercials. I was always waiting for him to pop a PEPPER BONER.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 24, 2020 3:22 PM |
Add me to those who like "Makin' It"
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 24, 2020 5:21 PM |
R20 I don't think that's from the 70s or 80s... lol!
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 24, 2020 5:38 PM |
I... I want to be a PEPPER, but mother won't let me.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 24, 2020 5:39 PM |
Very political but very funny, the show not the opening song
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 24, 2020 6:34 PM |
This was tough show. One of few my father liked. I remember how scary the opening was.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 24, 2020 6:40 PM |
The Sopranos opening almost feels like a copy of the Maude opening.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 25, 2020 12:39 PM |
Talking about POPPING BONERS. When I watched the Incredible Hulk and Dr. David Banner Turned into the HULK I was hoping we would be able to see the HULKS HUGE GREEN BONER pop out of his pants.

Pee-wee's Playhouse .. the opening lasted 2 1/2 minutes, theme song composed by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh.
