Are there genuinely asexual famous people?

Sometimes "He's just asexual!" is used to rationalize a star's alleged lack of a love life (Didn't the Wentworth Miller fangurls say he was asexual?)......but are there any stars who are genuinely asexual? Does Paula Poundstone still claim to be asexual?

by Anonymousreply 38May 26, 2020 12:48 AM

"Low libido", if you have some kind of genitals and sexual hormones production, that means your sexual chromosomes are expressing, you are a sexual being. But sure, you can put fancy names to your mental inadequacy, it's trendy this days.

by Anonymousreply 1May 23, 2020 2:32 AM

He's not a 'star' but he's a famous person: James Mattis, retired USMC General and Secty of Defense. People argue that he's not a deeply closeted gay but is asexual.

I don't think Paula Poundstone has ever claimed anything but asexuality.

by Anonymousreply 2May 23, 2020 2:33 AM

George Bernard Shaw.

Poor irascible thing.

by Anonymousreply 3May 23, 2020 2:34 AM

R1, people thought gays were "mentally inadequate"

What a mean thing to say.

by Anonymousreply 4May 23, 2020 2:47 AM

bbbbb

by Anonymousreply 5May 23, 2020 8:29 PM

Janeane Garofalo has said she's asexual.

by Anonymousreply 6May 23, 2020 8:41 PM

I think there’s one variation that’s pretty common. Some people hate their own looks/bodies to such a degree, that they can’t imagine being involved into anything sexual or romantic. Even the thought that other people might find them attractive fills them with disgust.

by Anonymousreply 7May 23, 2020 10:22 PM

That isn’t asexuality then, r7. The main question in asexuality is: are you attracted to anyone to the point where you would want to have sex with them? It hasn’t got to do with one’s own attentiveness...although I guess low self esteem and depression could certainly confuse the picture.

by Anonymousreply 8May 23, 2020 11:38 PM

Wouldn’t Tom Cruise fit this category?

by Anonymousreply 9May 23, 2020 11:54 PM

Some people like to masturbate to porn or fantasy images, but when they’re confronted with a real life body they’re immediately turned-off. For them, sex or romance is a pure mental thing.

by Anonymousreply 10May 24, 2020 4:17 AM

r10 that's not asexuality.

Jesus, you people are dumb.

by Anonymousreply 11May 24, 2020 4:21 AM

R11 I don’t really think there is a ‘pure’ type of asexually. You’re asexual if your sexual needs are extremely limited compared to the average person. It’s a relative thing.

by Anonymousreply 12May 24, 2020 4:32 AM

I understand the point R8 is making, but I'd go even further. Sexuality isn't just about wanting to have sex with someone. But it's about falling in love or having a crush on someone ("that dizzy, dancing way you feel", as Joni Mitchell sang). This can happen even if you don't want to have sex or you're physically incapable of having sex.

For some women, this doesn't happen until late in life. That's why so many women come out as gay in their 30s or 40s. They never had a crush in their youth, and they thought love/lust was a hoax, so they grabbed the first suitable man they found. Then, years later, they have a real crush for the first time in their lives, and the object is a woman instead of a man.

by Anonymousreply 13May 24, 2020 4:33 AM

* asexuality

by Anonymousreply 14May 24, 2020 4:36 AM

R7, that description fits me, though I know that I'm gay, even if I don't act on it.

by Anonymousreply 15May 24, 2020 8:15 AM

Tim Gunn?

by Anonymousreply 16May 24, 2020 9:51 AM

We 20th century people are obsessed with giving labels to everything and everybody. I don't think it's necessary or, in any way, important.

The excellent writer Evelyn Waugh mentions his hero Charles Ryder in 'Brideshead Revisited' catching a thin bat's squeak of sexuality, inaudible to any but himself.

I think the sex urge can be as thin, small, ephemeral and elusive as a bat's squeak.

And I suspect Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence's bat's squeak was even smaller.

by Anonymousreply 17May 24, 2020 10:08 AM

I think Lawrence was a repressed homo

by Anonymousreply 18May 24, 2020 9:10 PM

I doubt Tim Gunn is really asexual. Just celibate by choice. Morrissey used to claim to be celibate...maybe he just turned every one off with his stank personality.

by Anonymousreply 19May 24, 2020 9:46 PM

Answer will be women, because mens' blood flow straight to their dicks

by Anonymousreply 20May 24, 2020 9:51 PM

I’m a famous asexual person.

by Anonymousreply 21May 24, 2020 10:07 PM

Pope Benedict XVI, according to a former seminarian who knew him and didn't buy the gay rumours.

by Anonymousreply 22May 24, 2020 10:11 PM

Monica Seles is rumored to be asexual. Heard that quite often.

by Anonymousreply 23May 24, 2020 10:14 PM

Reese Witherspoon.

by Anonymousreply 24May 24, 2020 10:18 PM

Pope Benny is definitely gay

by Anonymousreply 25May 24, 2020 10:18 PM

There are people who'd much rather be thought of as asexual than gay.

Especially if they'd taken an oath of celibacy.

by Anonymousreply 26May 24, 2020 11:07 PM

Isaac Newton

by Anonymousreply 27May 25, 2020 1:19 AM

John Waters?

by Anonymousreply 28May 25, 2020 1:44 AM

John Waters has been in a relationship for ages. He just doesn't discuss it much. I'm reading his latest book right now. Very good.

by Anonymousreply 29May 25, 2020 2:58 AM

R20 agree. The majority of aces are female.

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2020 3:13 AM

Andre Leon Talley.

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2020 3:56 AM

R15 Same here

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2020 4:03 AM

Dear OP, why do you care about "asexual famous people"?

What about "asexual unfamous people" or over-sexual famous or infamous people?

Do you need to be validated by "famous people"? Most "famous people" nowadays are trash.

by Anonymousreply 33May 26, 2020 12:09 AM

r33, if you don't care about famous people, why are you posting on a gossip board?

by Anonymousreply 34May 26, 2020 12:13 AM

R34 I am here on DL gossiping about Ingrid, Vanessa and Virginia, Henry Cavill etcetera.

They have appreciable talent which will last longer than the gossips.

by Anonymousreply 35May 26, 2020 12:21 AM

Yes, Henry Cavill is a genius for the ages. Truly.

by Anonymousreply 36May 26, 2020 12:26 AM

Virginia was a genius. Ingrid and Vanessa were wonderfully talented. Henry is blessed.

by Anonymousreply 37May 26, 2020 12:29 AM

Are there any asexual posters here?
