Or do you think it's about getting attention
Do you think people really are allergic to gluten

Very few are, mostly it's about not eating carbs and making it sound like something other than vanity.

It's a bunch of bull shit dreamt up by a rich bitches that need something to do. Notice that it has waned, until the new disease du jour comes along.

Celiac disease is a real thing - if you have it and don't actually stop eating gluten, it can turn into Crohn's disease which is an absolutely debilitating way to live. The CDC estimates that it affects about 1% of the population so...you know. not everybody has it but it's still a real thing.

It is absolutely real, but it's been co-opted by food neurotics. Next door neighbors (father and son, not fraus) have it. After years of upset stomachs, their MD recommended testing and gluten was the culprit.

There is a blood test for it. It isn’t a difficult thing to diagnose if you have it or if you suspect you have it. The GP will just test for antibodies after you eat something containing gluten. It isn’t some weird made up thing. It also isn’t an allergy.

Celiac disease is real, but gluten intolerance was the naturopath trend a few years ago. Just like leaky gut syndrome, candida, etc. like R4 says, popular with food neurotics.

Yes, OP.
Coeliac is not "trans". It's genetic, and painful.
Its an allergy to a protein.
Also, it's easily avoided.
Thanks.

It does seem passé now that I think of it. What is the up and coming food demon?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 21, 2020 7:36 PM |
Gluten sensitivity is real as is celiac disease. However anyone who self diagnoses a gluten allergy is off track. It’s quite rare.

A friend's mother has celiac disease and it is very painful if she isn't careful. The upside to the fad? People like her now have a LOT of food choices that just were not available before.
So yes, it is a food fad based on some food neurotics, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. It has opened things up to more food options.

It's possible a lot of people who think they have gluten sensitivity are actually sensitive to the herbicide used on wheat, AKA Roundup.

It’s only the vegans that are out to get attention. They live to ensure that anyone within earshot will know within 5 minutes that they are vegan. They are exhausting.

All food is gluten free because gluten doesn’t exist.
