Famous gay black men (and women)

There's alot in reality but why not more in celebrity life?

by Anonymousreply 27May 19, 2020 2:46 AM

Latinos/ Hispanics are very underrepresented as a whole. They're the largest group in the US outside of whites so why aren't the Oscars full of Latino or Hispanic actors and actresses?

by Anonymousreply 1May 17, 2020 5:20 PM

Its a lot of factors...most black celebrities personal lives don't get as much mainstream media coverage, gay or straight. Also black celebrities in general were more private pre-social media. Gay black celebs also tend to come out publicly later in life when they don't have as much media spotlight.

by Anonymousreply 2May 17, 2020 5:27 PM

What R1 said. I think black people are definitely getting way more representation than any other minority. Hispanic and Asian people are frequently excluded.

by Anonymousreply 3May 17, 2020 5:28 PM

Most Black celebrities depend on Black audiences as their fanbase. Since homophobia is high among them, the Black celebrities can't jeopardize their stardom by coming out.

by Anonymousreply 4May 17, 2020 5:35 PM

Blacks comprise 12% of the population in the USA. Latinos comprise 16.7%. I really dont think the ratio in entertainament world is that bad. The place where they dont show up nearly as much is in the business aspect of the industry.

As a black female lesbian, I'm beginning to feel like something is wrong with me, as there are few women of color, who identify as lesbian. It's possible that since I live in suburban central Florida, I'm just not in an area they frequent, but it still seems like there ought to be more. I see Caucasian lesbians and Hispanic lesbians, but not African American lesbian couples.

Is Oprah really really really with Gayle?

Or is it wishful thinking?

by Anonymousreply 11May 17, 2020 8:25 PM

R11 That’s been the rumor for years. Stedman and Oprah bead for each other. Her relationship with Gayle is very friendly. More like partners than “best friends”. They always deny it, but it hasn’t stopped people from suspecting they are scissoring.

Black people worked long and hard to get to where they are in entertainment today and America a longevity everything else we have. Hispanics haven't faced the unique injustices African Americans have faced in this country.

I don't think anyone should be questioning anything good that's happened for black people in America. We earned it and no one gave us anything. After everything blacks in this country have been through, the thinking should be they're finally reaping the rewards and benefits they should've gotten long ago.

I've noticed something about people in America. It's always a second thought when it comes to anything black people have in this country. No one else has to face questions about they're prosperity in America, it's always why do black people have what they have.

Our ancestors did build this country for free after all. Believe me, we deserve so much more then what we actually have and one day we'll get it.

Unbelievable how delusional and self servicing some blacks are. Apparently they invented oppression, no one suffer like them, no one worked as hard as them, give me a fucking break.
