'Flash' actor Logan Williams, 16, died from an opioid overdose, mom reveals

Logan Williams' mom is opening up about his tragic death.

Williams, the actor best known for playing a young Barry Allen on The CW's "The Flash," suddenly died on April 2, just days ahead of his 17th birthday on April 9.

Marlyse Williams revealed that toxicology results showed her son died of a fentanyl overdose following a three-year battle with opioid addiction. She's now hopes Williams' story will help raise awareness of addiction and prevent another mother from experiencing her pain.

"His death is not going to be in vain," Marlyse told New York Post in an exclusive interview, published Friday. "He’s going to help a lot of people down the road."

USA TODAY reached out to Williams' rep for comment.

Williams was in eight episodes of the CW superhero show, with his last appearance coming in the Season 2 premiere in 2015, according to IMDb. He also had roles on "Supernatural," "The Whispers" and "When Calls the Heart."

Marlyse said although her family kept Williams' addiction "under wraps" due to "the judgment," "embarrassment" and "criticism," they did all they could to help him. She said she remortgaged her home to send Williams to an expensive treatment facility in the United States and another in British Columbia last summer.

"I did everything humanly possible — everything a mother could do," she told the Post. "I did everything but handcuff him to me to try to keep him safe."

Marlyse said she last saw her son four days before his death, when they enjoyed a home cooked meal together: "He said to me, 'Mom, I’m gonna get clean. I’m going to get better. And I want my new life to start.'"

Marlyse sent condolences to singer Melissa Etheridge, who confirmed her 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher died as a result of opioid addiction this week.

"My heart breaks for her because I know the initial devastation of knowing your beautiful boy is gone. Unfortunately, I can relate," Marlyse said "We are in this horrible club. A club you don’t want to be a member of."

He started when he was 13 years old? That's hardcore.

Did he have some type of injury? How does one start using opioids so young.

I never would have guessed that this kid had a drug problem.

Everyone kept saying it was suicide.

He seemed very clean cut.

The parents should have taken him out of show business if they knew he was on drugs.

Who was the bad influence in Logan's young life? Someone from Hollywood?

I feel sorry for this kid, but it's not surprising that he started with opioids at such a young age.

He was practically a baby when he started acting! And he was constantly around adult actors, who probably got him hooked on it.

I blame Grant Gustin.

Just kidding.

Was Logan gay?

He could have had anxiety.
