by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 15, 2020 12:22 AM |
You’re giving Trump too much credit. He’s an incompetent, cartoon, tinpot, wanna-be dictator at best. Stalin was competent, if ruthless. Hitler had success and is a better comparison to Trump. Both were deeply insecure and resentful and could rule the masses. Hitler was an excellent communicator and orator; Trump is neither but he doesn’t have to be because he’s talking to a simpleton audience. Hitler’s incompetence eventually revealed itself with loss after loss.

Mao didn't make your list? Because of his silly communists policies, roughly 40 million perished.
Idi Amin didn't make your list? Because he actually ate people.
Osama bin Laden didn't make your list?....oh for fucks sake...

The problem with Dems is they usually are not as financially successful as Republicans so they don't have any money in the market. Anyone successful would be a buffoon to support a Dem. You cannot take away what Trump has done even though the Dems wants the virus to wreck our citizens economy just to beat Trump. What a shallow bunch...

I think the WWII-era personalities stand together. You can’t through other buffoons in with them.
Trump will stand alone for massive incompetence. For skating on his predecessor’s successes, then being paralyzed by his first significant challenge, with complete disaster resulting.

Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign in 2016 was textbook "National Socialism." Steve Bannon stole all his plays from MEIN KAMPF and the Nazis. Trump went along with it.
Bannon even called his agenda "Economic Socialism" repeatedly.

I don’t want to be in a situation where I am in a room with two trumpsters, because firstly, they can’t shut up about their idiocy. And it is idiocy that is so stupid and ignorant that I have little patience for discussing it. But also, they seem to think that a position that the two support Is somehow “better” or “true” because they are in the majority. And I don’t have a lot of patience for that Idiocy.

Try to understand the MAGAs. Try to see their point of view, even if you disagree. You will be more understanding if Biden loses, which he might. People are looking for strength of any kind right now.
Dems, to the MAGAs, represent giving out their hard earned money to people who do nothing for it and never will. Very hard to change this viewpoint.

You can't paint all MAGAs with the same brush and claim they are all stupid or racist, just not the reality. Like I said, keep thinking his supporters are all stupid at your own peril and reap an embarrassing loss in November.

[bold] The One Where Trolls Reveal Themselves
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 15, 2020 2:30 PM |
The troll has a sense of it. Most of the MAGA folks I know see themselves as incredible contributors to the country, regardless of their income or any real value they provide. They diminish anyone else’s value, expertise, or worth. This is even more accentuated when the other is not white, male, straight or does not speak unaccented English.
It’s absurd if you actually know successful people or hard workers. But the MAGA self righteousness will not be dispelled by facts, arguments, or evidence. It is tied into their identity and self concept.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 15, 2020 2:38 PM |
R26, I understand. I think most of us understand why people vote for Trump . I have two Deplorable branches in my family, so I know.
It’s partly brainwashing, literally, by Fox. They know how to make their audience angry and fearful. Usually, For example, they Bring some articulate stranger on who expresses their helplessness, anger, and fear over being denied healthcare due to Obamacare. Hannity will ask sympathetic questions, and guide the conversation. If they can find some way to throw shade on some Black people, that’s a bonus. They won’t use the N word, but they know how to evoke the imagery of it in the mind of their audience. Likewise with immigrants, and whatever is the fascist enemy Of the day. Maybe They might use a darkened picture of President Obama.
No one will fact-check the subject. On this topic, Hannity had to stop having real people on, because Someone did fact check his series of guests, and in EVERY case, the person who Fox convinced we’re going to be murdered by this Black guy’s socialist healthcare system actually got better coverage for less money, and kept their doctor; or, it was a Business that was too small to be affected and didn’t need to close as reported. They all got it wrong and Fox reported it as if they got it right. And gee, is it too far fetched to think they were coached?
One women with cancer was filmed being told she could still get her treatment. She didn't believe it. They couldn’t convince her with the paperwork in front of her. She looked so confused. DataLounge had a thread about a guy with diabetes who was going to go blind, because he refused to sign up for Obamacare when he could have, and then, didn’t have the money for necessary surgery. These liars literally have blood on their hands.
My sister in law complained to Facebook that she lost her healthcare, “thanks, Obama”. I insisted she speak with a navigator since she drinks and smokes like a fish on fire. She did, and later, after I asked, to her credit, she told me she got a cheaper plan, with better coverage, and kept her doctor. She didn’t tell Facebook, though, so she added to the lies and misinformation that the fascists were spreading downstream. After a year, she started whining again, not realizing that her coverage continued if she did nothing,
This woman’s brother, has some mental problems and he can’t sit without Fox on the TV. It’s taken a piece of his mind. He also is a lazy slug and thinks he deserves to have a higher standard of living despite working less and not being very smart. I’ve never known a grown man who acted like a high school student well into his late 60s, but I guess I just manage to avoid them, but can’t in this case.
There you have it. People vote for Trump/Fox because of an infrastructure of lies, misinformation, and blaming. Skillful fascism. Add in Racism, white entitlement, and alcoholism, too, there’s that.
I was never a SJW but my in laws and DataLounge have really opened my eyes. And I don’t really care about racial issues, except am appalled by a system that doesn’t give people, even a semblance of a fair chance. I’m White, and I do have flashes of fear and anger when the privilege of my race are diminished by changing demographics. Just like I hate paying higher taxes despite constantly voting for them. But I adjust, because it’s the right thing to do. And I try to surround myself with generous people, because Fox-fear is contagious.

Far leftism/cancel culture/SJW/ act EXACTLY like someone who is deeply religious. EXACTLY! Closed minded, judgemental, wants to keep separate, physically and intellectually, from others who have a different worldview (no matter how slight). Can't poison our "thinking"....if that's what it's called.

R30, the MAGA person isn’t being accused of differing with someone else’s “worldview”. They are being accused with differing with “facts” and “evidence.”

The right thing to do will sometimes have aspects to it that are painful. It’s one of the things that separate humans from animals. Some humans, but not all.
You know how a dog might have to have a cone-collar put on, so that he won’t re-open a wound that has been stitched? He doesn’t understand that the short term pain that he has been put through is in his long term interest. The MAGATS remind me of this.

Trump will be remembered as the greatest president. Most voted for him because he was the only one who would close Mexican border. We were afraid he would start war etc. But still voted for him. He has turned out to be economic and political genius. Everyone benefits from having a great president. Hitler was just too manic. Stalin was married to communism and did not adapt his views to reality.

Stalin was an uneducated insecure brute. Putin is educated but likely gay and Jewish. Hitler was an upper class twit in many ways. Hitler was too lazy to succeed at school. Might have been gay too. Hitler was affable and loved by his secretaries, cooks, guards etc. Hitler believed in occult and his own infallibility. Hitler did not listen to his generals. Trump is extrovert. Has good education in finance. Knows he needs smart people around him. He was ruthless in getting rid of mediocre people. Knows the big picture. Does not get bogged down in details. Genius iq. Has resurrected Republicans . Has inspired hatred and jealousy in his enemies who know he is right.

Also, nothing you wrote about Hitler is accurate, but Hitler is none of my concern.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 15, 2020 8:11 PM |
Yeah, Trump hasn't got a single human virtue. Not a single one.
He is not an intelligent man. He is certainly below average In intelligence and that is evident in his inability to explain complex ideas or even full sentences.
He’s got so many mental illnesses layered one on the other, that it’s difficult to describe all of them, though “narcissism“ and “delusional” lead the collection.
Drug-addled, is a rumor. It seems appropriate, but I have no direct facts. Then there is the question of dementia, but I can’t comment on that one.
That all said, he has great potential. He knows that a certain segment of society needs an enemy to complain about, and he has the potential to use this to great damage. I have said for years, that if he loses the re-election, he will feel that “the people” have failed him, personally. These people, all of us, will deserve to get whatever punishment he decides to dole out. We will all be at great risk. I haven’t speculated on what he’ll do, but now I’m thinking that he’ll unleash followers to protest the places that the electors gather, the way he did in Michigan (or was it Wisconsin?) recently. The way the Brooks Brothers riot occurred. It might be something like that.
Incidentally, before that Michigan thing, where people with guns entered the Capital, protesting to “open Michigan”, or whatever that was, Trump was asked about what he might do, and he had this odd smirk, like he was thinking “you fuckers, I’m going to send armed lunatics to storm the Capital and you won’t fuck with me again”. It was in his daily press conference just a day or two before he called for the protesters.

R48 Stalin was kicked out of seminary. Of course he was cunning. He rose through ranks of Bolsheviks because of his management abilities but he was still uneducated and naive enough to believe in communism. Everything I said about Hitler was true. He was no hero during ww1. He was messenger in rear and hung out with the generals. He lived off an inheritance for many years. Hitler did not have strong views on Jews. He was just giving the German people what they wanted. Some of the other top Nazis did have strong views on Jews. At least u agree about Trump.

We can pray the Trump fails in his aspirations because that mean lots of dead people and just a really bad outcome no matter what happens. That’s the question ahead of us. Just how bad will this become before Trump is removed in Jan 2021? Right now, Trump is a barking Clown. By January, we could have a million dead, but everybody who can work, is forced to work. He's a Russian intelligence asset working for Putin, systematically dismantling and subverting all of our democratic institutions, effectively removing the US from its position of leadership in the world. It's possible we will never be able to recapture what we lost. How terrible he was will probably come down to the final death count; eventually there will be metrics which can determine how many more died because of his gross mishandling of the pandemic. We don't yet know how many immigrants and refugees have lost their lives through his immigration policy. There could yet turn out to be mass graves that we don't currently know about.
And he's still got the rest of his term to seriously fuck something up. Firing off a nuke would easily surpass the rest and place him at the top of that list.

President Obama won a Nobel Prize early in his public life for the reasons they stated, but also because he gave us hope of a magnanimous superpower that would get out of wars that had grown out of proportion to their intent or possible usefulness. Whomever follows Trump , if he or she can reestablish the rule of law, and prosecutes the abuse of power, we can get America back on track.

R84 What about Tulsi being declared a Russian asset for campaigning against endless wars or the media's attack on Trump for withdrawing from Syria? I would say that unnecessary wars are what unite the political establishment.

R83, I don’t understand the context of your comments or what your point is. How are you defining “inequality” and the specific problem with it that you’re commenting on? I don’t know serious people who seek to destroy wealth, if that is what you are suggesting. I think this conversation is too stale to continue without more exposition. Thanks.

R86 I was referring to your earlier comments about feeling flashes of anger. I may be wrong, but the implication was that your rights are in direct conflict with others you perceive as being marginalized. My point is that there shouldn't be a conflict and that rights should be afforded to the individual based on their merit.

I don’t pay much mind to Tulsi. I have no power over her.
As for Trump, he’s just utterly hopelessly compromised and incompetent. One can generally assume that whatever he does, it the wrong thing, done at the wrong time or place or way. History has evidenced this repeatedly. It should one’s natural assumption at the start, unless proved otherwise.

[quote] that rights should be afforded to the individual based on their merit.
That should be ability to succeed.

Hitler was adhering to the social norms of the time. Large countries occupying smaller countries was deemed normal. So was persecuting Jews. Trump otoh is obviously violating the standards of 21 century so he is bigger monster.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 17, 2020 8:24 PM |
R90, I disagree about large countries occupying others as a norm. There actually was an effort going far back, to create powers that balanced each other so that none were big enough to do that. I’ll see what I can find, but I think there was a huge series of meetings, since at least the time after the Napoleonic Wars, to stabilize boarders. IOW, they knew that England couldn’t occupy France or Italy occupy Greece.

Here it is. 1648, Peace of Westphalia. This was the beginning of the process. Some weaker states were still Treated as playthings, but it was an end to some of the religious wars in Europe.

Trump is stupid, old, fat and the puppet of much richer people.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 17, 2020 9:35 PM |
So when can we look forward to Trump's redistribution of wealth and genocidal concentration camps, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 94 | May 17, 2020 9:48 PM |
R94, the "redistribution of wealth" is already well underway, having begun with Trump's tax cut of 2017; Republicans are taking advantage of coronavirus stimulus to award more money to corporate multinationals. Concentration camps already exist, with kids in cages, and no plans to release anybody. Trump officials move the inmates around, seeking to avoid monitoring and oversight; we don't actually know if any of them have been killed yet.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 17, 2020 10:24 PM |
R94 STOP, you can't ask a question like that! They'll be forced to answer and come up with delusions and lies masked as responses like R95. I wonder if he was the stooge who posted in another thread about an ordinance, in some town in shitty California, that wanted to removed homeless dregs from sidewalks and compared it to Third Reich policies.
Remember, this is who you are dealing with.
responses like R95.

R96, you're just terrified that R94's question has such an easy and obvious answer.

Why are some of you people pretending that Trump hasn't killed people? He's locked up tens of thousands at the border and left them to rot. More than a few have died; we have no idea how many have died from coronavirus. The Washington Post has a TRUMP DEATH WATCH where they attribute at least 52,000 coronavirus deaths to Trump's incompetence. That's a lot of people he has killed. You don't have to send people to the gas chambers to commit murder.

[quote] Why are some of you people pretending that Trump hasn't killed people?
Because they are not DLers R98
They are trolls and threads like this are irresistible to them because it gives them a chance to try out variations on "Trump isn't all that bad"
by Anonymous | reply 99 | May 17, 2020 11:48 PM |
R98 You think the BUM who was rattling his tin cup for "change" and in office for 8 years prior, wouldn't have done the same thing if there were the surges of illegals during his reign? GTFO!
The Washington Post is a propaganda rag. "Trump Death Watch".....lol....I guess that got you to move your head and focus your eyes! They have another useful idiot, spewing their false claims.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | May 17, 2020 11:56 PM |
Trump may be ridiculous by claiming he already saved nearly 2 million lives, but some of you guys are really dumb if you don’t think the travel ban in January didn’t save at least 52,000 lives.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | May 18, 2020 12:58 AM |
You realize that most of the cases in NY - which is where most of the US cases and deaths have been- came from Europe, where Trump did not ban travel. Over 40,000 people travelled from China *after* the ban. Moreover, most experts said that was already too late for a travel ban to be effective.
Where Trump failed was in reacting quickly through testing and containment. He spent almost two months in denial because he was afraid it would hurt the stock market.

He's worse, right? Didn't Hitler at least protect his German citizenry? Trump's not even keeping is old white racist voting body alive. He didn't think this through.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 18, 2020 1:09 AM |
R102 Agree that he didn’t go far enough. Some states were hit hard but the majority can still proceed with a containment strategy, something that would have not been possible if he completely caved to the racist accusations.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 18, 2020 1:16 AM |
R98 Other than some felons, he hasn't even imprisoned anyone at the border, Mary. They're being housed because those people are REFUSING to leave the border until they get in. No one is actually making them stay, other than out of the US, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 18, 2020 1:19 AM |
Trump is still failing on testing, tracing, and containment. He’s pushing delusional ideas of imaginary medication. Use your brain and think about that Hydroxysomething medication. What does a President know about a medication in medical trials? He’s insane. We’re following the directions of a crazy person who keeps firing the experts.
