Hollywood is Desperately Trying Make These Actors/Singers Happen

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

Miles Teller. I don't care if he can act, I can smell the scent of douchebag off him from a thousand miles away, and his face looks like a potato.

I feel like Zac Efron was always being pushed in our faces for a while there. Granted, he was probably sucking a lot of cock to make that happen though.

I second Adam Driver. OK actor, painful to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 14, 2020 2:32 PM |
Adam Driver. And it doesn't get better when he smiles.
Dare I repeat it, since it has been going on for over a decade? Armie.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 14, 2020 2:56 PM |
Adam Driver has already happened, and people need to accept that. You don't need to like him or see his movies/shows, though.
Re: Miles Teller. I was loathe to think that the TOP GUN sequel was going to resurrect Teller's aborted career this summer, but the movie has been pushed back to end of year, and who knows what will happen at that point?
He's 33 and pretty much fucked up all the amazing breaks he's gotten (WHIPLASH, INSURGENT) with his horrible personality. We'll see.

Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, Tye Sheridan, Ansel Elgort.

I guess she's already happened but I'm so fucking sick of Margot Robbie. People like Stephanie Zacharek's stupid ass trying to pretend that she was BRILLIANT in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was laughable. She didn't do shit in Bombshell either. Yet they keep handing her nominations, and obviously a win will come soon.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 15, 2020 6:28 PM |
R22: She’s only getting roles because of her production company and/or her looks. Even she knows she has a short window before a new blond ingenue replaces her.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 15, 2020 6:30 PM |
r23 True. I guess in a way she's replaced JLaw, right? If so, then I take it back. I guess I can tolerate Margot as long as JLaw stays the fuck away.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 15, 2020 6:34 PM |
I think Robbie is a fine actress but no, she does not reinvent the wheel for me. She's quite good at inhabiting a persona fully and losing herself in that character--she's that kind of actor, and good for her. Very attractive, in a very conventional way.
But she is not an exciting personality and doesn't bring that much extra to a film. That special sauce, for lack of a better term, is what makes someone a STAR.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 15, 2020 6:47 PM |
Ana de Armas. She was in Knives Out (which was good) last year, and now she's going to be in the new James Bond movie [italicize]and[/italicize] a new Marilyn Monroe biopic [italicize]and[/italicize] with her new boyfriend Ben Affleck in his upcoming movie [italicize]and[/italicize] in a Knives Out sequel.
I can already tell that she will be like Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Rebel Wilson, and Scarlett Johansen before her. Doing too many things at once and having a major flop, but the studio heads like her (or want to fuck her), so she's still treated as relevant.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 16, 2020 3:34 AM |
R26: I've seen more than my fair share of embarrassing Hollywood PR relationships but her current stunt with Ben is arguably the most embarrassing. Either she's that desperate for international fame or she's with him for his connections.

Dua Lipa. It's pleasant but highly derivative pop music pilfering from everything and everybody and passed through the filter of focus groups but, honestly, it's kind of faceless and if you hear it on the radio sandwiched between the songs of the people who have more personality, it's instantly forgettable.

It’s funny about Adam Driver. Intellectually, all of you who don’t get the appeal are absolutely right. He does have a potato face and he always seems to be ever so slightly shambling along. But from the first time I saw him on Girls I wanted to know who he was. The only reason I kept watching episodes was because I liked watching him. It’s definitely a sexual thing.

Billie Eilish
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 25, 2020 8:23 PM |
Billie Eilish has already happened. Having a #1 song and the best selling album of the past year cements that.
Everyone can thank DL icon Lens Dunham for why Adam Driver is a thing. Many of the SJW's on Twitter says he's the only decent part of Girls, lol.
As for who Hollywood is trying to make happen, that obnoxious child actor Jacob Tremblay and that shitty rapper Tekashi 69 are on the top of my list.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 25, 2020 8:28 PM |
Well, Tremblay has at least two hit movies which is way more than some adult actors Hollywood promotes relentlessly

by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 25, 2020 8:41 PM |
R70: I think he is too ambitious for his own good.
He was a very niche actor with loyal fans but he is not mainstream material and his whole pr relationship was one of the most ridiculous ones in recent years (and it's never good when a supposed good actor is unable to fake interest in his girlfriend)
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 25, 2020 8:43 PM |
I kind of think the ship has sailed finally on Zac Efron. You don't even really hear that much about him anymore.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 26, 2020 3:30 AM |
Jon Hamm. Mad Men was 5 years ago. He is not the new Clooney or even close. Box office poison. The only thing that's keeping him famous now is he's a drunk with a supposedly big dick. And goes to the opening of an envelope.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 26, 2020 3:35 AM |
R72: And that only can be good for him. It's not like he is having trouble to get roles, and maybe less expossure will be good to solve all his issues

I hate to say it but the reality is Adam Driver is now officially a thing. I will say though I don’t think there’s any excitement about or public engagement with him.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 26, 2020 1:41 PM |
Adam Driver can act and he had several commercial hits and some films blessed by critics. He is in a good moment of his career.
He is not superstar material but if he chose carefully he could have a very good career
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 26, 2020 2:12 PM |
As much as I hate the guy, DiCaprio is the last “star” to emerge. He’s had success in both commercial and critic friendly films. He’s also still marketed as a leading man/heartthrob even though he has zero chemistry with every female co-star. He really is the last movie star to come out of Hollywood even though he’s a hypocrite, creep, and douchebag.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 26, 2020 2:26 PM |
r76, What does Chris Rock have to do with Jude Law's career? Jude seems to be doing just fine, btw.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 26, 2020 2:26 PM |
R83: When Chris Rock hosted the Oscars in 2005, he jokingly asked why Jude Law was in everything. In 2004, Jude Law was in six movies and named Sexiest Man Alive. He was all over the place and his 2004 movies flopped at the box office. After Chris Rock’s joke, Jude Law’s career slowed down.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 26, 2020 2:29 PM |
R82 And closet case.
He most certainly is the last star to emerge. Jennifer Lawrence looked like she might be but she fizzled really quickly (thank God). And there will be no more 'stars'. It's series, or franchise films, or concepts that get people to watch stuff now.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 26, 2020 2:29 PM |
R85: I don’t even think he’s that great of an actor tbh.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 26, 2020 2:35 PM |
Jennifer Lawrence's trajectory closely mirrors Harvey Weinstein....everyone knows how she won her Oscar. Now nobody needs to pretend they want her anymore.
Nepotism is the family business in Hollywood and so they keep trying to push no talents like Dakota Johnson, Zoe Kravitz, the Will Smith kids on us.
How long did they try to make Rumer Willis a thing? Yeah that long...it took years before the public finally said enough.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | May 26, 2020 2:45 PM |
Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress. If blowing Harvey magically made you into an Oscar winner then tons of forgotten starlets like Gretchen Mol would have Oscars.
Sometimes DLers can't be objective towards anyone they dislike
And no one tried to make Rumer Willis a thing, she's better known for reality tv than for any actual role she had
by Anonymous | reply 88 | May 26, 2020 4:32 PM |
I think the one that they’ve worked the hardest at trying to make happen is Armie. He certainly has matinee idol looks and has worked with some of the most elite directors but he’s a no talent with zero charisma. Also I might be wrong but his trust fund baby, everything’s been handed to me status irks people. The industry never wanted to give up on a man that handsome but they also refused to accept that the public doesn’t give a shit about Armie Hammer.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 26, 2020 4:58 PM |
R88 Yes, she is a good actress and i'm pretty sure she'll make her come back, but it's pretty obvious that Weinstein pushed hard her career. Suddenly she was nominated every year.
I remember José Luis Garci who was nominated to foreign film (he won in the 80's) the same year Life is beautiful was the big favourite in that cathegory and he said Weinstein did everything to make their experience a nightmare. Life is beautiful was clearly the big big favourite in that cathegory but the rest of films even had problems to find distribution and the get into the cinemas.
And of course that explains why Roberto Benigni won where the other four actors were way better than him (he is perfectly ok in that movie and far from being the worst winner, but he is not Ian McEllen in Gods and monsters for sure)
by Anonymous | reply 90 | May 26, 2020 5:26 PM |
I'd say Tom Holland, but he's nice and sticky (and sweaty too, I expect).
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 26, 2020 5:28 PM |
R90: No she’s completely over. She’s been gone too long and has had too many flops. By the time this is all over, nobody is going to care if she’s in a movie ever again. It also doesn’t help that she’s universally loathed by Hollywood and the public. She should take her millions and go out with some dignity.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 26, 2020 6:06 PM |
She isn't universally loathed by the public or by Hollywood. DLers just don't like her, so they spin their own narrative. All actors have had flops.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 26, 2020 6:20 PM |
JLaw is NOT a good actress. She was okay I'm Winter's Bone and that's it. She overacts in everything.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | May 26, 2020 6:29 PM |
Her Weinstein connections are going to haunt her forever. Also, I don't think the industry wants anything to do with her after the fake marriage.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 26, 2020 6:50 PM |
R95 Meryl had Weinstein connections too and everybody seems to forget that everytime.
J Law was loved at first but it was like an overdose, she was everywhere. If she wants a come back she needs character roles in good films to star
by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 26, 2020 7:02 PM |
How do you know the marriage is fake?
by Anonymous | reply 97 | May 26, 2020 7:03 PM |
