Jerkiest SNL cast members of all time

Right-on about Chevy Chase.

I'm thinking Dennis Miller, but I'm thinking maybe he may not have been as big a jerk while on SNL, but certainly belongs in the pantheon of jerks.

John Belushi and Bill Murray.

Belushi is a bad boy but a good man, they would always say.

Lorne Michaels

Lorne is not a bad guy. He's savvy and made a mint.

Pete Davidson

Belushi and Aykroyd were known to be huge assholes. Jane Curtain called them the “bully boys”. She said they were arrogant dicks and misogynists.

OP- The main thing about Chevy Chase was he was the LEAST funny person from the original cast. Bill Murray who of course replaced who was FAR FUNNIER.

Dennis Miller was NEVER funny. Just smarmy and laughed at his own jokes. No SNL "best of" DVD for him. Wonder why...

Loved Dennis Miller. Intelligent, good-looking, funny. What's not to like? Now Nora Dunn, there's a real piece of work.

I've read all of the SNL books and they only people who were consistently decent throughout them were Al Franken, Gilda Radner, JAN Hooks, Jane Curtain and Dana Carvey. Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray, plus Dan Ackroyd could be dicks, but usually for the right reasons.

Michael Che? He gets weirdly obsessive about people who criticise not just him but even SNL's website's T&Cs.

There's are numerous examples of him doing shit like this, and he's rarely even ever tagged, so he actually goes looking for this stuff and then obsessively cyber-stalks whoever said it and sets his fans on them.

Mr. Bill, he date-raped Garret Morris.

According to Norm MacDonald and Jim Breuer it is Chris Kattan.

Norm Macdonald is a tool. He did a stand-up set at my large and fairly liberal college circa 2006. He doesn't understand why men bottom. That was the punchline.

What about Darrell Hammond?

The worst asshole ever associated with SNL is Lorne Michaels. He's demonic. And an imposter. He just leeches off of everyone and uses them and discards them. Truly an awful funereal fart of a personm

You realize those two sentences have nothing to do with one another. Being savvy and making a mint do not make someone "not a bad guy." If that were true, Rupert Murdoch would be a prince among men.

I'd love to hear some Lorne Michaels gossip. It's actually striking how little is said about him.

Anyone watch the Darrell Hammond documentary on Netflix yet?

R23 I have seen almost all of it . It's pretty intense and it's not entirely clear what his diagnosis is. Hammond is a hugely talented impressionist in any case.

I recall reading that the young Bill Murray had a crush on Jane Curtin and was almost chivalrous defending her.

Also read that when Gilda was dying of ovarian cancer and was too weak to walk up the stairs, Murray carried her up several flights to an SNL party.

He's probably a fundamentally nice guy who drank too much and got pickled.

Lorne is very highly closeted yet has often championed homophobes, i hate that.

Lorne is notoriously cheap and likes to pit people against one another and still makes them work all night one night a week like they did when the coke flowed. He randomly fires people to keep everyone worshipful of him. He has no real talent other than spotting medium talents who won't fight back or tell on him. Classic abuser.

R18 he also called Bill Clinton a murderer on The View and Barbara Walters changed the subject real fast (it’s on YouTube). He was great on update though and I still sometimes watch his “the best of OJ jokes” on there when I want a good laugh.

That Live from New York book was so good I remember I had to stop myself from finishing it in one night. I wish they’d write another one (the same eras, just more stories).

I don’t recall any bad Dennis Miller stories. I was a huge fan I just hate what he’s become.

It figures that Macdonald would say something like that about Clinton. He always struck me as a closet republican.

Dennis Miller garnered a lot of negative criticism for being a right-winger. He was probably an asshole that just got bigger and more obvious.

Like 90% of them. Personality disorders and drug abuse galore. Catherine O'Hara was hired and quit on her first day because the dynamic there was so toxic. This was circa 1982, I think, right after she left SCTV.

Tracy Morgan has said that Chris Kattan and Cheri Oteri treated him like shit.

Castmates of Eddie Murphy were amazed at how professional and grounded he was considering his age (19) and exploding popularity. Apparently, he was very respectful of his fellow castmates and fought off any efforts by producers to overshadow them.

Nora Dunn and Jan Hooks hated Victoria Jackson.

Lorne's never suffered any consequences other than his voice being the one of Dr Evil and the awful CEO in Kids in the Hall Brain Candy, I would've thought he'd be at least Metooed or sued by now.

Chris Kattan was a cokehound. Lost a lot of friends along the way. Was even fired from "The Frogs" at LCT because he was such a coked-out fuckup.

I recall that Tracy Morgan pointed to Kattan and one or two others (Oteri maybe?) as fellow cast mates who never gave him the time of day. Of course Tracy is a homophobic asshole so...

R33, Murphy is a much more difficult case. He started during the gross Doumanian era and wasn't even a regular. He'd do these bits on WE and the audiences would be howling and then Rocket would return and it would be dead silence. He bonded with Piscopo but almost everyone else treated him like shit, especially the disgusting Ann Risley. She'd ask Murphy to get her juice and when he wouldn't she'd try to pull rank by saying "I've done Shakespeare, Woody Allen, don't get uppity with me". He was promoted to regular and perhaps he remembered what it was like, so he treated the other cast members well. It couldn't have been easy to return to SNL after 48 Hours was an instant hit.

Yikes, hadn’t she seen Roots?

I worked with Chris Kattan on Frogs. On the 1st day of rehearsal, he came in an hour early, said his shower was broken, and asked where he could find one in the rehearsal space. It was obvious he hadn't been to bed yet. He could barely read the script at the run through that day. Nobody could understand why he wasn't fired at that point. Constantly picked fights with the conductor, Paul Gemignani. Never knew his lines. Nathan Lane started getting very angry, so Roger Bart was brought in during previews. I heard that Kattan cried hysterically when he was finally fired. He was fucking one of the chorus girls, and she was mean to everyone in the cast for the rest of the run. It was quite a relief when he was gone, and Roger learned the entire role in a couple of days.

It didn't matter, everyone hated the show.
