The fact is that by the time CMBYN came along, it had been seven *long* years since his success in The Social Network. Yes - he was great in that film, and it poised him for a breakout. But until CMBYN, he hadn't managed to follow that up with a real hit for himself. The Lone Ranger was an embarrassment of stupendous proportions - I mean the level of flop was truly astronomical. He followed it up with a number of smaller roles that just...weren't that much to write home about. The one other film during this period I think he actually did well in was The Man From Uncle (I actually thought he was better in it than Henry Cavill) but he was unlucky there too, since the film didn't do as well as expected and wasn't green-lit for a sequel.

He's got a big year coming up - lots of higher profile projects in the pipeline for release with some big directors and stellar casts, and those roles are all thanks to the success of CMBYN (and that press tour). The film definitely helped him, regardless of how many pictures of Timmy come up when you search his name on instagram. That's not a barometer of success -it's just a barometer of how people tag shit on instagram. It'll be interesting to see how these upcoming projects pan out - will he manage to stand out in a strong cast? Or will he fade into the wallpaper? The fact is, Hollywood always has need of a tall, blonde, classic All American looking man. But those aren't the roles he wants.

But honestly that isn't really the point - the point is that it was pretty much universally acclaimed with four Oscar noms and is the best reviewed movie Armie's been in since the Social Network. And he had a much larger role in CMBYN than TSN.

SPC bought the film for mid to low seven figures. It made 18 million domestic. So SPC gets 9 million. So if they bought it for four million, they made five million profit. Which is probably offset by the P&A cost which they spent a fortune on to secure a single Oscar.
