The Duchess of Cambridge’s younger brother has gone clean shaven for the first time in seven years
With hairdressers having been informed that they’re unlikely to reopen until July at the earliest, many of us have had to take our hair maintenance into our own hands. But for James Middleton, the younger brother of the Duchess of Cambridge, there was another incentive to take up the clippers – to show his fiancée, Alizee Thevenet, what he looks like underneath his beard.
The couple, who were originally set to get married this month, have been isolating with James’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, at their home in Bucklebury, Berkshire. Having posted a video of himself shaving his beard to his Instagram account, James’s followers have had the chance to get a glimpse of the idyllic family home where Kate, James and middle sister Pippa will have spent many happy times.
The video is captioned: ‘It’s been 7 years since I last shaved so I decided to surprise Alizee…’ It opens with James filming himself sitting in the back of an open-topped truck, surrounded by a few of his ever-present dogs. The truck appears to be parked on a driveway, beyond which hedges, trees and countryside can be seen, looking particularly verdant in the sunshine.
James explains: ‘Seeing as Alizee and myself were due to get married, well actually this month, she’s never seen me without a beard. So I thought it was about time I showed her what was behind it. In fact,’ he adds, hugging one of his beloved dogs, ‘what I’m most worried about is these guys might not recognise me afterwards. Say goodbye,’ he concludes, brandishing a pair of electric clippers.
James proceeds to shave off his beard in sped-up video footage set to music, before he says: ‘There we go. So I’m off to go and find Alizee.’ Walking round to the back of the house, viewers get a glimpse of what appears to be an outbuilding or barn, before the camera changes direction to show Alizee with her future parents-in-law, Carole and Michael.
