I’m not defending Kathryn Dennis. She definitely should have known better, especially after Roseanne’s Twitter controversy. I just went back and looked at the screenshot of the exchange. And I will say this, I’m the poster from above who spent sometime around her in college and she really likes to use the term “monkey shit.” Which is what I think she was saying with the emoji. And, no I don’t think I ever heard her say it in a racist way. Charleston really seems like one of those places stuck in the past. Say what you will about Southern cities like Atlanta, Raleigh/Durham and Houston, but they don't have that same feeling. My Indian friend was visiting someone in Charleston and went into this one hotel there and asked if there were any available rooms. The woman implied that my friend didn't "look" like she could afford a room there and she pretty much said that to her face verbatim. My friend picked up on her attitude and left. She really left feeling like she was looked down upon just because she was Indian. She now lives in Dallas and loves it and has never felt the racism she did in Charleston.

R79 We weren't friends, but we attended some parties and political events where we would engage in conversation. I mainly used the technique when engaging in political networking. The University of South Carolina is in the state capital, in fact the university campus and the State House complex are next door neighbors. If you are an eager student genuinely interested in politics, the social world of the two are very intertwined. I am very surprised there aren't more scandals invariably arising from the unique situation. I spent time at UofSC, off and on for over a decade, in fact I knew Thomas before I knew her. I moreover knew of his cocaine use well before the public.

And, as I said, I agree it was a dumb thing for her to do and poor judgement. But, if anyone has spent anytime around her or even watched her show, you know judgement isn't her strong suit. One thing I will say about Thomas is that back when he was running for Treasurer and after he won, he would show up to every political event with a new different but interchangeable blond, many of whom I suspected were escorts. He awed me because I was a very young guy at the time, but unlike the other petty politicians he learned my name and always made a point of speaking to me. I will say some of our conversations seemed flirty, on his part. But many politicians seem naturally flirty when you encounter them one-on-one or maybe it was the cocaine. He urged me to go to some of his after-parties a couple of times, but I didn't. I desperately wish I had. I think he is chiefly a narcissist and has probably had sex my both sexes, as long as they "worship" him, but I don't know if I would consider him bisexual.

R85 I am not currently in that world. But I've kept some contacts and could return, so I have to be careful, not to make it easy for them to figure out my identity.

One person, from that world, people know is former Governor and Congressman Mark Sanford. I will tell you he is one really screwed up nut. Remember his famous cheating scandal, what surprised me and others in South Carolina about his cheating wasn't that he would cheat on his wife but that he would endanger his money, the true love of his life. He grew up the son of a well-to-do surgeon, but his father was a miser and that is the main thing he inherited from him. After college, he went to Wall Street where he was a middling investment banker, but he met and married Jenny. Jenny Sanford was much more successful on Wall Street and was also an heiress. Her family founded the Skil power tool company. It was her money that financed his political career. When they divorced, he got more money than he brought into the marriage but nowhere near 50%.

After his divorce and the loss of his wife's money, his obsession with money became more pronounced. One way it manifests itself, is his lack of personal hygiene. I can't believe any reporter or one of the people from Congress hasn't mentioned his horrible B.O. He would only bathe when staying at a hotel where the water and toiletries were already included in the bill. At home, he doesn't like paying for water, soap, shampoo, or deodorant. Honestly, I think he kept getting elected to Congress because the voters smelled him and decided if they voted for him he would be in D.C. where they couldn't smell him.
