NBC told him if anything happens again regarding substance abuse, he is out. They were writing Chandler out. After that he got his shit together at least until the show ended.

The very first time I ever saw him was in a failed sitcom starring Valerie Bertinelli. He was a featured player. I think it only lasted for 1 season. I remember it as being kind of funny too. He showed a massive VPL in some scenes.
