Is switching agencies, cause William Morris wasn’t making him the star he thought he should be.
I've never understood his appeal, right back as far as "The Line of Beauty."

I thought he was bland in Downton Abbey, but I heard his acting was stellar in Legion (which I haven’t seen). But he doesn’t really have the charisma of a major star.

I don't think Dan is the star he thinks he is. Not agency's fault he's a dud.

David Caruso all over again.

I watched him in an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility recently. He was Downton's Matthew all over again. Same with some Christmas film he did two years ago. He's very one note. That's not star quality, sorry.

He was good in FX's Legion.

Beautiful man with beautiful hair and beautiful eyes.
But somehow he doesn't have "it."
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 11, 2020 11:14 PM |
He's like Emma Thompson's husband Greg Wise--beautiful, but just not a star. He'd be better off going back to the UK and doing Agatha Christie on the BBC.

Are you KIDDING me??!! He’s adorable!!!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 11, 2020 11:18 PM |
I never watched all that DOWNTON ABBEY noise.
But he was HOT A.F. in THE GUEST.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 11, 2020 11:21 PM |
I loved him in Beauty and the Beast.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 11, 2020 11:22 PM |
I was just going to post that, R10. He was hotter and more compelling in that movie than anything I've seen him in before or since.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 11, 2020 11:23 PM |
Y'all are N U T S R12 and R10.
[italic]That's[/italic] not hot as fuck, not by a long shot.
Granted, he looks better than his Downton days but still.
Not hot as fuck.

I didn't watch Downton Abbey, but want to now cause that dude's eyes are so pretty...
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 11, 2020 11:33 PM |
I'd pay good money to have him sit on my face.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 11, 2020 11:34 PM |
The problem is the 'star system' is dead. Nobody goes to the films because of actors anymore. The last 'star' to emerge was Jennifer Lawrence and she faded pretty quickly. DiCaprio, Pitt, Cruise (outside of the US), Hanks, Steep are all 'stars' in the old fashioned sense of the word in that to some degree and in a right film they can get bums on seats. Everyone else is pretty much 'actors for hire'. The star system is dead and long may it stay dead.

He's getting more work than most of the Downton cast. And most of the GOT cast. He's doing fine by any measure.

Hasn't a bunch of stars been leaving CAA? RDJ, Angelina Jolie. He's just going to get the leftover crap that the big stars don't want.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 11, 2020 11:46 PM |
Nice eyes.
Weak chin.
No charisma.
Next!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 11, 2020 11:49 PM |
William Morris moved heaven and earth for him and he botched it by being boring as fuck. All CAA is gonna do is get him into a superhero movie, and only as a supporting player. That's all CAA knows how to do.

I thought he was impressive in Legion and I was pleasantly surprised by his segments in High Maintenance.

Steven’s biggest problem is that he is oddly narrow. Swipe through these photos taken alongside Henry Cavill and you can see how Stevens just is basically overwhelmed. Real stars basically have a physical quality that overwhelms you and that you can’t take your eyes off of.

R15 oh yes, that would be most enjoyable

R7, please! He's an ordinary white guy

Thanks for sharing OP. Very very important.

"The Line of Beauty" was good and he was good in it. I also liked him in "The Guest."
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 12, 2020 12:38 AM |
The Guest was the first movie that I actually took notice in him. Damn sexy in that movie. But sometimes TV actors just can't make it in movies. No matter how good looking they are or were.

He has good versatility. For those of you stating he doesn't, you may need to check out more of his work. He fit Downton perfectly but also did well pulling off The Guest, Beauty and the Beast, and Legion which are all very different. Hope he succeeds at his new agency.

R20: CAA’s roster is unimpressive. The vast majority of clients repped by them have no talent.

Generic, pasty Brit.

Rolls eyes at R30.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 12, 2020 1:43 PM |
He was fantastic in Legion. What an original show and performance. From hero to villain, he did it all there.
So technically he's already been a "super hero".

Cavill is dressed as Tim Nice But Dim in that shot. You can't buy style, I guess.
