Crazy Eyes Jake Shears...in his earlier days, he took a lot of crazy eye photos.
I think someone must have told him to go "big" with the eyes but if you have small eyes, it just make you look insane.

Compare this recent to R30’s photo. You can see Jared had an upper blepharoplasty, aka an eye job.
In R30’s photo Jared’s right eye (to us, it's the eye on the left) had a hood of skin over the eyelid. Very common as people age and he’s always had one eyelid “drape-ier” than the other

R46 is right. They're usually pale blue and somewhat larger than average. I wish I could remember what the term for a blue/pale-eyed horse is. It's a sign of bad breeding and likely health and behavioral problems.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 12, 2020 12:01 PM |
I have so called crazy eyes related to anxiety and social disorders. It’s a bizarre defense I use and have spent years in therapy trying to reduce or stop it. It’s involuntary. It has left me isolated and has cost me jobs and friends and relationships. I am a good person but make people think I am not and has hurt my confidence. I am just posting for a different perspective on it really as for being on the other end of it, it’s painful.

R5 very much reminds me of a guy I went to high school with who's been arrested multiple times for domestic violence. It's not so much facial structure, but a certain look in the eyes, a certain expression that betrays a capacity for cruelty and violence. It's hard to explain, but I recognize it immediately when I see it.

R112 interesting theory.
I think this supports my suggestion that there is a difference between crazy eyes and mean/sadistic eyes (see r5, r45, r57, r63) -- none of those show the whites of the eyes like, eg, r8 or r53 )
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 15, 2020 10:59 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 130 | June 4, 2020 11:31 PM |
I had crooked eyes as a young child r130 (strabismus) that were corrected with surgery when I was around 2.
I learned recently that children with strabismus corrected in early childhood have a THREE TIMES greater chance of developing a serious mental illness as an adolescent or adult (which I did, bipolar II) than the general population.
What an odd thing.

I agree that when one’s eyes reveal the white (sclera) either below or above the iris such people tend to have neurosis. I pay close attention to eyes when a person has reveleaed atypical or unusial behavior.
It’s also my observation that when individuals go through periods of depression their eyes physically change. More specifically, one eye becomes “squinty”. I’ve seen this with friends who experience depression and in photos of individuals with known mental illness. I’ve seen eyes transforming seconds.
Overly visible Sclera, overly wide eyes, asymmetrical eyes, squinty eye, etc. suggest mental illness imo. This does not mean I reject such individuals. If anything, I am empathetic and make sure I do my best to meet their social needs.
R60, I’m sorry to hear your eyes have caused you difficulties. Is it your perception or have people told you your eyes are off putting in some way? Does your therapist agree? I’ve not heard of anyone seeing a therapist in hopes of changing their eyes. I’m curious. I’d like to learn more. How is it working for you?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | June 5, 2020 6:09 AM |
Yes @R65 Dv is an issue on both sides of my family. It’s a cold look. What’s funny is that the main abuser had beautiful eyes to women. Women always went crazy over his blue grey eyes meanwhile I’m 8 thinking “mam if you Only knew”
by Anonymous | reply 146 | June 5, 2020 6:31 AM |
RE:144 I appreciate your reply. People have commented and some have told me. My therapist believes it’s tied to self esteem and anxiety really. Nothing really helps it including Xanax which I have used for about 3 years. Which is bad I know. I use it if I have stressful meetings mainly. But tbh it doesn’t do a lot. I am glad you don’t judge as that’s the hardest. It makes me feel like a bad person. Which I don’t think I am. It’s complicated really with no quick fix.

Jemma Redgrave is always great when she is cast as a mental case because she’s got them there crazy eyes! I’m sure she’s a lovely woman in real life.
She also should have played Martha Stewart in the TV movies instead of Cybill Shepherd (who doesn’t have crazy eyes but who I think is genuinely crazy).

Perhaps you are overly critical and hyper focusing on something that most people really don’t see or think about.

Marty Feldman did NOT have "crazy eyes." His eyes looked like they did because he had thyroid disease and developed Grave's ophthalmopathy, which caused his eyes to protrude and become misaligned. It wasn't his fault; if he hadn't had those two conditions his eyes would have looked normal.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | June 6, 2020 3:57 AM |
r159 I'm not sure, but I think there have been studies that have looked at strabismus in adults. I can't remember what conclusions (if any) they drew
