r26: The only one I've never heard of before as being gay is Cagney. I've been on DL since 2012 and this is the first time I've seen his name. I don't care either way. Have I just missed this and everybody else knows? Actually I know absolutely nothing about his personal life. Great actor though, amazingly powerful screen presence for such a short little not handsome man. Can't even remember how long ago he died. It's been a while. Where's your info from if you care to say?
|by Anonymous||reply 29||05/10/2020|
I leave this thread at Cagney. No credibility.

Tom Selleck has been talked about since...what, the '70s? If he fooled the world...it must have been Trump followers only. They are easily fooled.

Definitely Raymond Burr. Even I was shocked when I found out.

|by Anonymous||reply 34||05/10/2020|
r34: Well, I live in LA and I did see him with his wife at a movie about 25 years ago (he was still incredibly handsome at the time)--so they're friends at least. And they're still married I guess with an adult kid I think? You never know--plus it's none of our business is it.

I would say Liberace is #2 on this list. Although he did file lawsuits (and won) against magazines for reporting that he was gay, Liberace didn't ruin many lives and he didn't persecute his own kind. After the lawsuits in the 1970s, Liberace just sort of faded away until he passed away. He claimed to be straight but didn't attack people he didn't know.
The # 1 closet case, in my opinion, is Roy Cohn. Advisor to Donald Trump and Senator Joseph McCarthy, Roy Cohn lead the lavender scare in the 1950s and 1960s seeking out, threatening and blackmailing gay and lesbian government employees. He'd be furious that anyone would even suggest he was gay, but he never answered any questions about his own personal life. He targeted and outed gays and lesbians. Yet, he loved to party at STUDIO 54. Roy Cohn showed the nation live on television that it's okay to harass and threaten members of the LGBT community, then he'd party at gay night clubs. Roy Cohn is the prototype for Aaron Schock, Houston City Councilman Michael Berry and Representative Mark Foley.

You really do never know about these things.In the past 2 years,3 people very close to me have come out after living ostensibly heterosexual lives for decades..My brother-in-law,husband to my late sister(35 years of marriage,2 kids),his male best friend(38 years of marriage,4 kids),and a close female friend(30 years of marriage,1 kid). I’ve completely stopped taking any relationship at face-value as a result.And it seems almost everyone I know of the younger generation identifies as sexually fluid in some way.2 nieces for a start.And too many co-workers to mention.
I live in a relatively conservative part of Canada,hardly a liberal bastion of permissiveness.So unless I’m some wild statistical anomaly,it would appear that while I was sleeping there has been a major paradigm shift.
That celebrities in swinging Hollywood would be gay or bisexual behind the scenes should hardly come as a shock.That we have so few confirmed cases is what is most telling.

Never knew Paul Newman played on the down low till I read it on DL. The on-location fun with Cruise on 'Color Of Money' which TC wanted more of but PN wasn't into. Plus someone plausibly here on DL said he'd hooked with PN in New York.
Stories also about Pacino which I don't disbelieve. Post on DL about a friend going on a date with him, but not following up on AP's suggestion of fun. Not his type.

Studio 54 was not known as a gay nightclub. Anyone who was anyone back then wanted to be seen there at some point.
If it was a gay club, and Cohn was closeted, do you really think he’d go there? It’s not like he went to Stonewall.
I’m not saying he’s not gay, I don’t know enough about that, but just saying Studio 54 wasn’t a gay nightclub.

I once had a boyfriend who had been a very successful underwear model. He then tried a career as a screenwriter. It didn't go far (he was a terrible writer, he got meetings because of his looks) but he did have lunch a few times with Paul Newman, who acted as though he were interested in my ex's scripts, but the ex says Newman was totally coming on to him. He didn't bite though -- he had just broken up with another (lesser) star and didn't want to deal with a closeted actor again -- and, this was later in Newman's career. He still looked great, but not like he did when he was 35.

Rock Hudson. I’ll always remember right after he died, the women I worked with just could not believe he was "that way." They had grown up with the image he presented onscreen, and were convinced he had to be straight.

|by Anonymous||reply 113||05/15/2020|
I grew up in LA and the boy next door's mom knew in the early 60s that Rock Hudson was gay. She had a rich sister that went to some country club where everybody knew everything about everybody. It was probably filled with the parents of future dataloungers. Also, for some reason, as a child I had pretty good gaydar. I knew without being told that Raymond Burr was gay and also Robert Reed. Maybe it was their voices? I have no idea. I did not have gaydar about Rock Hudson. He was a masculine acting guy. One of the best looking movie stars of all time IMO.

[quote][R106] Didn't they know he was dying of AIDS ? How long was it in the news before he died ?
A very short amount of time, maybe a few weeks, if that. He sparked rumors by how old he looked on Dynasty, but by the time it aired it was a few months later, and it all wrapped up for Rock very quickly. It was all very sad.

Roy Cohn again. He helped to out and ruin gay and lesbian government workers to keep us out of federal and state governments. He didn't feel our nation was safe with gay men or lesbians working in government positions.

R138: I doubt it. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz were well known in Spain way before going to Hollywood. Of course Pe's relationship with Tom Cruise was totally fake, but she had some real ones in Spain way before becoming really famous.
Javier Bardem comes from a very known leftist family. He has a good bunch of gay friends and he played gay roles even when he was stereotyped as iberic macho in his first prominent roles. He was able to not put himself in a box and had success on comedies too. He seems open minded but he is not gay

|by Anonymous||reply 146||05/26/2020|
I'd be surprised if Jimmy Cagney was gay, if only because he's in one of my favorite Old Hollywood gossip items: once on the same train as Merle Oberon, the two hooked up until Merle said mid-act "I can't believe I'm fucking JAMES CAGNEY!" loud enough that he was sure others could hear it. He deflated and left.
The gossip item shows up in a more tasteful form in this review of a Cagney bio from 1998:
[quote]There are no revelations of a closeted life here, though McCabe allows that Noel Coward probable wrote "Mad About the Boy" in homage to Cagney. McCabe also insists on Cagney's fidelity to Frances Willard "Willie" Cagney, James' first and only wife. After being lured into a train berth with a nude and adoring Merle Oberon, Cagney abruptly extricated himself when the great beauty cried out in joy.

David Muir might be gay, but he's not out to kill or ruin anyone. He's not targeting / harming LGBTQ people. I don't think he's lying about anything, and he's not issuing false news about his sexuality, so I wouldn't consider him a closet case. Every news reporter doesn't have to share their personal lives.

Tom Jones talks about Elvis singing to him in the shower.
TJ: Maybe he was checking me out - I don't know. But I closed the door and finished in the shower and then I stepped out to towel down in the main part of the bathroom - only to find that Elvis was still there and that, moreover, he had clearly taken advantage of his time alone to avail himself of the facilities and take a dump in the toilet. He was wearing, on this particular evening, a North Beach leather suit. A lot of us had them at that time - natural leather with a lot of give in it, and stitching all along the edges. But unlined, so a bit of a struggle to put on. Therefore, when I emerged from the shower, the exact sight that greeted me was of Elvis, leaning against the sink, washing his hands, with his back to me and with his leather North Beach trousers and his underwear still around his ankles. .

A friend of mine told me something about James Cagney. The friend was an actor and director. He had managed a Holiday Inn in a Boston suburb at one time. Cagney was in his 50s or 60s at this time and lived on Martha's Vineyard. The friend said every year Cagney would check into the motel for a few days with another guy the same age. Everybody assumed it was a relationship. I guess because Cagney was married and why would he not have his friend visit him at home, or vice-versa? Or they picked up on the vibes. Maybe only one bed was unmade. lol. I don't remember.
It was rumored that he and Noel Coward liked each other, and Coward wrote Mad About The Boy about Cagney. But I also read a rumor about Merle Oberon and Cagney, so he may have been bi.
Coming from the New England area, I heard a lot of rumors, even when I was in high school. Apparently a lot of actors felt they could get together with more freedom on the Cape or in Maine, and when they were doing summer stock. One of my friends' dads referred to Raymond Burr as gay, I also heard that Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors were gay, and Van Johnson. A girl I knew worked summers in Dunfey's Hyannis (hotel) and a lot of rumors about visiting celebs were always swirling around there. My family went on vacation in Ogunquit (where the summer playhouse is) and sometimes you'd hear about a celeb renting a house and having gay parties.
Spencer Tracy - I used to wonder if he was gay, for various reasons (gayday mainly) but is Scottie Bowers the only proof? He had a lot of serious affairs with women, not just Hepburn but also Loretta Young, and he pursued Joan Fontaine, Gene Tierney, and Grace Kelly.

I wish I could find the interview where one of the Memphis Mafia discussed the parties they used to have. Elvis would open the gates and the girls would go up to the house. One of them counted one time this happened. There were over 100 girls and 7 men. That doesn't seem gay to me.

“When Arafat arrived at the restaurant, Hani had him sit right next to me. We talked about what was happening in the Middle East and Arafat had all kinds of questions about U.S. politics and of course about Bill Clinton. The dinner soon became somehow comical for me. Arafat would get very animated when he spoke and every time he was making a point, he would lean over and rub my leg under the table. He'd be saying something to the whole table full of people and then would look right at me, emphasizing a point, and rub up and down my leg....Finally it was time to go and as we stood up to shake hands Arafat laid a big ole wet kiss right on my lips. I wasn't ready for that one.”

[quote]And they let him have a high flying career?
Who the hell are "they"? Liberace's peak success was in the 1950s, when homosexuality was barely talked about, including in the press. Liberace claimed that skater Sonja Henie was the love of his life (but, sadly, she married someone else), and he was making a lot of money for a lot of people. He never came out, even late in his career when he was wearing sequined costumes that would embarrass a Las Vegas showgirl, because he was afraid of losing his adoring female fans, who by then didn't give a fuck whether he was gay or not. End of story.

Michael Cohen in his book "Disloyal" reveals that Corey Lewandowski was fired for shopping the story of Jared Kushner's sexual orientation to the Enquirer. Cohen also says Ivanka cried when Jared's father told Jared he couldn't marry Ivanka as she was not an Orthodox Jew. I'm so confused. Again.

Eric Trump. That's what Eric is part of "the community."
|by Anonymous||reply 336||10/10/2020|
Perhaps I'm confused, r336. But I read Quinn's Twitterings as Eric confiding in Eric's goomah. If Eric and Jared are lovers, why would Eric have a goomah to whom he's confiding about Don Jr being gay? Can someone please straighten me out, no straighten this out for me please?

I don't know about the world but James Mitchell aka Palmer Cortlandt of All My Children fooled my mother and her friends.
|by Anonymous||reply 338||10/10/2020|
James Mitchell was a dancer (he's "Dream Curly" in the movie of "Oklahoma!"), so he probably didn't fool too many people.

During the rise of her star Whitney did for a while, until she hit her peak and the whole thing with Robyn came to light.
Even now with the truth fully out and no secrets left, there are some straights and fundies who refuse to acknowledge that their songbird was also a bisexual who had a female soulmate & life-partner.

That whole Keenan Wynn thing is so out there. Evie Wynn is told by LB Mayer to divorce Wynn and marry Van Johnson, and she did it.
"She characterized MGM chief Louis B. Mayer as someone with "the ethics and morals of a cockroach," and said Mayer put it to her plainly: "Unless I married Van Johnson, he wouldn't renew Keenan's contract. I was young and stupid enough to let Mayer manipulate me.""

I've heard John Goodman is gay
|by Anonymous||reply 346||10/11/2020|
Whitney was ask about lesbian rumors on TV in 1987 (3:30). That was pretty major.
|by Anonymous||reply 347||10/11/2020|
|by Anonymous||reply 348||10/11/2020|
^^^thanks R347. Like you said, in context that is a crazy conversation.
The way she said, “I’m particular, that’s all” sent me. It’s such a pity the Church and her grifty family had such a hold on her that she felt the need to defend herself so vehemently about her relationship with Robyn. That’s not even getting into the general lesbiphobia of the time (yes, it did exist). 23 was so young an age to be dealing with all that she did, and it’s awful to think that she had to cope with shaming about the real love she felt for a woman on top of all that.
Whitney interviews never get old. There’ll never be another Nippy.
|by Anonymous||reply 349||10/11/2020|
A lot of people won't face the truth about Whitney
|by Anonymous||reply 350||10/11/2020|
Can you blame them? Even Robyn minimized their romance in her book, to the point that the most desperate straightwashers tried to argue that "child" Whitney was groomed by "adult" Robyn (they are only something like a year and a half apart in age), and that their sexual relationship was at best experimentation. But Robyn tells on herself when she details how Whitney fired a dancer who was spending time with Robyn, and slapped Robyn over the "betrayal."

Was Robert Conrad really gay? I never thought he was handsome or sexy, because he seemed so mean and cruel. He always looked angry. What kind of a person was he? Was he mentally and physically abusive. Am I wrong?
|by Anonymous||reply 353||10/11/2020|
You are right R353. He was physically abusive to his wives and he was abusive to his tricks, blond twinks who he bottomed for, but then liked to beat up afterward. My friend C. (he posts on this board too so...) had an affair with him and said it was both amazing, because RC was so incredibly handsome, and terrifying, because RC was also so dangerously loopy.
|by Anonymous||reply 354||10/11/2020|
RC seemed like the kind of guy who'd beat up male hustlers
|by Anonymous||reply 355||10/11/2020|
I couldn’t watch him or look at his photos. He gave me the creeps.
|by Anonymous||reply 356||10/11/2020|
How long after cumming did Conrad wait before flinging his cum in tricks' faces and punching them from all sides as they were blinded?

R352 He was previously on one of Netflix's most popular shows. He's "supposedly claims to be too busy to date", hangs out with Courtney Love and once posted that one of the Golden Girls characters gave him the feels.

|by Anonymous||reply 361||10/11/2020|
R361 Ross Butler wasn't on Teen Wolf but those Teen Beach movies. Charles Melton was the one who previously dated Camilla Mendes and he replaced Ross on Riverdale as Reggie.

R362 Ross was on Teen Wolf. He gets fucked by Malia.

John Goodman never really hid it. The gays simply didn't speculate about a lard-ass very much.

|by Anonymous||reply 367||10/11/2020|
Isn't John Goodman married but separated?
|by Anonymous||reply 368||10/11/2020|
The guys who are really successful at fooling the world are the ones that are not conventionally attractive at all, to the extent that nobody thinks about in a sexual way at all.
Somebody like Dom DeLuise. He was pretty queeny in his mannerisms, but he was married with kids, and he was morbidly obese, so nobody wanted to think about him fucking anything, be it male or female, and he managed to slip under the radar of most people.
Same with Louie Anderson, except people found out because he got blackmailed and had to go to the cops and it went public. If that hadn't happened, who would have even bothered to care?
Billy Preston too. He wasn't an unattractive guy, but he was no heartthrob either. He seemed sort of asexual, if anything. Again, if there hadn't been that scandal with the Mexican day laborer, I doubt anybody would have given it a second thought.
I admit to being surprised when Clive Davis came out as bi. Another one you just don't want to think about having sex with anybody.

Because he also wanted her tits in the divorce.

I met these two gay caterers who worked upscale events in the Palm Beach area. They'd been around Burt Reynolds for years and I asked them if he was gay. They said no and we wouldn't want him on our side either.

Has Travolta taken a peek outside his closet lately? I remember his antics with porn daddy Paul Barresi in the steamroom at the Beverly Hills Health Club around the time Travolta was making "Perfect" there. Barresi said he was summoned to the Bel Air Hotel where he met JT and his new "trainer." His parting gift was a half-full bottle of champagne and a cheese basket. That's when Barresi decided to go to the Enquirer and subsequently faced the wrath of Scientology which did everything possible to bring him down.

Tom Holland - gay with a hot for daddies, take one to know one, bitch Paul Ryan - gay who like other gay who work out. He is probably those who post body pic as profile on grindr Jimmy Kimmel - bisexual who like young guy and young girl, 20 something of course Robert Downey Jr - Bisexual Leontyn Price - famous opera legend and a lesbian Stephen Colbert - Straight but has experienced gay sex in his youth Barack Obama - straight but discover an attraction to man in college Michelle Obama - straight but desperately hide her manliness, she is the real man in the house Lindsey Graham - straight as a light pole but constantly mocked because of how she embrace her masculine side John Mayer - bisexual who into twink Caitlyn Jenner - man?woman?lesbian?straight? She is EVERYTHING. Stewie Griffin - 100% gay Christina Aguilera - probably bisexual Alicia Keys - she is straight but she look like a lesbian in 2002-2004, I get why people suspect Steven Tyler - in some way you can say he is lesbian since he is, in fact, Julia Roberts in disguise Henry Cavill - trying to act straight, but the real Henry is a sassy gay boy with limited intelligence. I bet he loves purse and fur coat Whitney Houston - straight but has dabbled into a lesbian relationship Eminem - gay and into twink

Roy Cohn was Trump’s enforcer atty until his death. Trump has bemoaned not having a Roy Cohn as AG - that is until Barr who has done everything possible in fill the role. BTW, Cohn also did the same services for all the rest of the mobsters (aside from Trump). Roy was a sexual pig who devoured youths like he devoured anyone against him. Pre-Trump he was the evil behind the McCarthy Witch Hunts. Died of AIDS miserably alone, unapologetic and still denying being gay. That is the man Trump wishes for.
