Why did Trump randomly tweet “Obamagate” 15 minutes ago?

He is so random. What is he trying to pull now???

Cocaine plus quarantine, OP.

by Anonymousreply 1May 10, 2020 7:27 PM

He's a deranged moron. It's the same motivation behind EVERYTHING he does or tweets.

by Anonymousreply 2May 10, 2020 7:27 PM

Adderall, r1.

by Anonymousreply 3May 10, 2020 7:28 PM

Without reading his tweets, I'd imagine Trump trying to spin the story that Obama framed Michael Flynn.

by Anonymousreply 4May 10, 2020 7:28 PM

The Russia/Flynn stuff, I'm sure.

by Anonymousreply 5May 10, 2020 7:28 PM

Who knows what's really going on in his deranged mind.

It occurs to me that Trump has a particular need to get Flynn out of trouble.

Obama warned Trump about Flynn. To have Obama proven right by Flynn going to prison is something Trump will move heaven and earth to keep from happening. He just can't go there at all.

by Anonymousreply 6May 10, 2020 7:29 PM

OP - it's probably this:

by Anonymousreply 7May 10, 2020 7:29 PM

It's interesting he's gone through all this trouble for Flynn but not Manafort or Michael Cohen.

by Anonymousreply 8May 10, 2020 7:30 PM

More deflection. By the end of the week, new coronavirus cases will begin to peak and the fact that everyone is getting up to speed on the fact that Obama didn't recommend Flynn...fucking hell, Trump hates successful black people who won't kiss his lily white ass, that sums it up.

by Anonymousreply 9May 10, 2020 7:31 PM

It’s distraction. He has very effectively caused mass cognitive dissonance with these antics. It is psychological warfare, a specialty of his conductors at Red Square.

by Anonymousreply 10May 10, 2020 7:32 PM

He's on the shitter, clearly

by Anonymousreply 11May 10, 2020 7:32 PM

Flynn has the goods. Manafort can't use what he knows without indicting himself, his cohorts and most importantly, his children (remember, Manafort's daughter changed her name she was so afraid of the taint). Cohen doesn't know enough to truly harm Trump (until Trump is no longer POTUS, by which time Cohen will be out of prison so there's not much a point in Trump doing anything to help the guy who, without doubt, he views as a traitor to the Trump klan).

Why did Trump tweet Obamagate? Because he's scared shitless and it's all in his adult diapers, now.

by Anonymousreply 12May 10, 2020 7:35 PM

He wants to prosecute Obama for something thinking that a show trial will distract everyone what a piece of shit he is. Forgetting that he's opening himself up to his own trial.

by Anonymousreply 13May 10, 2020 7:37 PM

Agree R11. Must be bound up from the buckets of deep-fried garbage he consumes.

His colon probably resembles that of Elvis Presley.

Perhaps he'll die on the shitter, mid rage tweet, just like Elvis, too

by Anonymousreply 14May 10, 2020 7:39 PM

Obama criticized his mishandling of COVID/causing mass deaths, and he is lashing out. No doubt he heard someone on Fox News say “Obamagate” and tweeted it immediately.

by Anonymousreply 15May 10, 2020 7:39 PM

The Repugs tried soo fucking hard to dig up shit on Obama and just couldn't create a true lie that would work. What I can't stand hearing from truly stupid fucking cult members is how Obama didn't leave tests for Covid-19 WHEN IT DIDN'T EXIST IN 2016!!! You just can't do anything with stupid.

by Anonymousreply 16May 10, 2020 7:42 PM

Seriously, I'm not one to engage in hyperbolic what-ifs?, however, I thought a few months back that it would not be beyond William Barr to unleash his right wing political stooges in the DOJ to "trump" up crimes against Obama and Hillary.

If you can, with impunity eliminate crimes- those of Michael Flynn, you certainly can, with impunity, create one.

Barr is a scary, smart, evil man with an agenda.

by Anonymousreply 17May 10, 2020 7:46 PM

I think that his greatest fear... and, that of Republicans too, is that this race is really going to be about Trump VS Obama. That's a tough fight and one Republicans know that they can't beat. The Obamas are immensely popular worldwide. Heck, they're just much better people. Just look at the First Ladies' messages today. The gal wished everyone a happy mother's day but it was routine message. BUT, Mrs. Obama wanted to wish all of the mothers who are on the front line of this pandemic a safe, healthy, and happy, mother's day. Which message resonates more?

by Anonymousreply 18May 10, 2020 7:46 PM

[quote]I think that his greatest fear... and, that of Republicans too, is that this race is really going to be about Trump VS Obama.

The Republicans are turning Obama's DOJ into the new Hillary's emails. Right now they're focusing on two issues: Michael Flynn's so-called "perjury trap" and Paul Fishman's prosecution of Bridgegate, which the Supreme Court just overturned 9-0. Barr's interference on the Michael Flynn case stinks to high-heaven, but Fox viewers are only going to see how poor, "patriotic" Michael Flynn was unjustly persecuted, yadda-yadda. On Bridgegate, there's actually some meat there - there is apparently a NJ state statute which would have covered the crime, but Fishman insisted on a Federal prosecution when the crime didn't actually fit the Federal statute. So bullshit issues are being conflated with legitimate questions - and the Republicans are obviously hoping that Biden is smeared by association. The Republican base will be stirred up again with anti-Obama messaging, and the Republicans are obviously hoping that independents get the "both sides are the same" message in order to depress turnout for Biden. And for Trump, personally, it reinforces his world-view that all of the investigations against him were unjust conspiracies designed to take him down.

I don't think any of this will save Trump's presidency - he lost white suburban women last year, and he's losing seniors now. All of the anti-Obama messaging in the world won't save him from people who are sick of him.

by Anonymousreply 24May 10, 2020 8:02 PM

It was right for the Obama Administration to surveil the Trump campaign.

by Anonymousreply 25May 10, 2020 8:05 PM

Then they are fools, r24. This whole thing is WAY too complex for Trump's base to wrap their tiny minds around.

by Anonymousreply 34May 10, 2020 8:18 PM

Fortunately, #Trunpgate is trending too

Basically he understands how to play the media and his base to always keep himself in the spotlight.

He will spew something outrageous and the base will eat it up and then CNN will get its panties in a twist trying to prove that he is wrong.

CNN et al need to just ignore him and Twitter.

And Jack Dorsey should be charged with something when this is all done.

by Anonymousreply 35May 10, 2020 8:19 PM

“CNN et al need to just ignore him and Twitter.“

As if. CNN discusses every tweet he puts out. And MSNBC’s entire programming schedule is all Trump all the time. I didn’t even register it until my dad told me that MSNBC literally talks about almost nothing but Donald Trump no matter what is happening in the world, and that CNN at least discusses other news in between its obsessive Trump coverage. Trump is aware that infamous and famous are one and the same in politics. As long as everyone talks about him, he is ahead no matter what he does in Russia’s interests.

by Anonymousreply 40May 10, 2020 8:35 PM

Exactly R36

CNN ignored the old saw that you should "never argue with an idiot, because pretty soon people won't be able to tell the difference."

Their coverage is far too often a laundry list of what Fox and Trump lied about and it often seems petty as they give it the same weight as the main story (lots of people are dying) and Fox does the same thing with CNN

So it sounds like a "he said/she said" battle between the two which most people are prone to dismiss as "neither one is telling the truth"

by Anonymousreply 41May 10, 2020 8:37 PM

That Obama "leaked" call was the shot. The Democrats and President Obama have a lot of cards to play. One of the Trump cards will be the Obama book being released. No one needed Miss Cleo to tell them that Obama's book would be released right during the heat of the campaign.

In Yahoo comments on Attorney General Barr dismissing charges against Flynn, many of the conservatives seems to think that in just a couple of weeks President Obama will be in jail. by Anonymousreply 51May 10, 2020 10:41 PM

These R are all insane. Who was President when Flynn pled guilty to lying to the FBI? Who was President when Flynn was fired as NSC chief? Whose DOJ proceeded with the Flynn investigation, charges? [quote]this race is really going to be about Trump VS Obama. The MSM is going to eat this up!

And, here we go! This just dropped a half an hour ago;

Chabot: Obama brings some life to Joe Biden’s sleepy campaign

Former President Barack Obama unleashed a searing attack on President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, stoking enough fire to reignite passions despite Vice President Joe Biden’s listless campaign.

“It would have been bad even with the best of governments. It has been an absolute chaotic disaster when that mindset — of ‘what’s in it for me’ and ‘to heck with everybody else’ — when that mindset is operationalized in our government,” Obama said during a leaked call obtained by Yahoo News.

Obama has largely stayed under the radar during the 2020 race, but in a video call with former staff and supporters Friday the former president also called Trump’s response “anemic and spotty.”

“What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy — that has become a stronger impulse in American life. And by the way, we’re seeing that internationally as well. It’s part of the reason why the response to this global crisis has been so anemic and spotty,” Obama said.

Trump quickly took to Twitter to defend himself, and the resulting clash sparked more enthusiasm than presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s been able to muster this whole campaign.

“We are getting great marks for the handling of the CoronaVirus pandemic, especially the very early BAN of people from China, the infectious source, entering the USA,” the president said on Twitter on Sunday. “Compare that to the Obama/Sleepy Joe disaster known as H1N1 Swine Flu. Poor marks, bad polls – didn’t have a clue!”

Prominent Democrats have scolded Biden’s lackluster campaign organization as he faces off against a well-funded and nimble incumbent. The Delaware Democrat is at a particular disadvantage online, where Trump has built a well-staffed social media and email operation.

“Adjusting to the new political realities is imperative for Mr. Biden, who ran his first campaign for office a half-century ago,” wrote former Obama senior strategist David Axelrod in a New York Times op-ed last week.

Biden’s team scrambled to address those concerns this weekend, hiring a bunch of new digital staffers including three from former primary rivals.

“Biden team digital is scaling … fast. Really fast,” wrote Biden’s Digital Director Rob Flaherty on Twitter Friday.

Only time will tell if Biden is able to take on Trump’s campaign when the fireworks fly. Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, tweeted about the campaign’s “massive online advantage” this weekend.

“Plus we’ve got POTUS and they’ve got Sleepy Joe,” he wrote May 7.

Until then, Biden should continue to take advantage of his powerful campaign surrogate. Obama clearly gets under Trump’s skin and brings a much-needed jolt to the 2020 race.

It's very plausible that over the summer, he will get the Justice Department to start prosecuting people like James Comey or Andrew McCabe or anybody he can think of (Hillary, plausibly) on whatever trumped-up charges they can think of. Republicans are currently throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. But, I feel the best way for Democrats to beat Trump and the Republicans is to help Trump self-destruct. That ad by the Lincoln Project; "Mourning In America" as a direct and near fatal hit. It's being reported that Trump is apoplectic because of it. That's where Bloomberg was very helpful. His ads went for the jugular and that is what will have to be done. From the Los Angeles Times;

Trump lashes out at GOP critics, exponentially increasing their visibility

By SEEMA MEHTA/STAFF WRITER

MAY 10, 20206:30 AM

Reed Galen was about to go to sleep one night last week when his phone pinged. President Trump was tweeting about him and his group of longtime Republican allies who are working to make sure Trump is not reelected.

The group, a political action committee called the Lincoln Project, had created an ad called “Mourning in America,” a play on a famed 1984 Ronald Reagan campaign ad. The minute-long video blasts Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic freefall, arguing that he has made the country “weaker and sicker and poorer.”

It was mostly a digital effort, but they spent a few thousand dollars to air the ad on Fox News during Tucker Carlson’s nightly show on Monday. The purchase — aimed at an audience of one — clearly hit its mark.

“A group of RINO Republicans who failed badly 12 years ago, then again 8 years ago, and then got BADLY beaten by me, a political first timer, 4 years ago, have copied (no imagination) the concept of an ad from Ronald Reagan, “Morning in America”, doing everything possible to … get even for all of their many failures,” Trump wrote in a firestorm of tweets after midnight last Monday. “I didn’t use any of them … because they don’t know to win, and their so-called Lincoln Project is a disgrace to Honest Abe.”

Galen, a former Orange County-based GOP strategist who now lives in Park City, Utah, described the moment as “surreal.”

“It’s one of these things where you work hard, and you have an idea, and sometimes it all comes to fruition,” he said. “I would be lying if I said it does not seem surreal to be sitting in bed and watching the president of the United States trash you and your friends and spell your name wrong.”

It was the most attention the Lincoln Project had received. The political action committee was formed by a small group of Republican strategists with ties to politicians such as former President George W. Bush, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the late Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich. Several have ties to California. They have endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president.

They had a relatively small budget and are largely unknown by the general public, though their anti-Trump efforts have garnered some headlines.

Trump’s tweets launched them into a new stratosphere. Their videos typically receive several hundred thousand views; “Mourning in America” has been watched by more than 16 million people. Between Nov. 5 and March 31, the group raised under $2.6 million; in less than a week since the ad’s debut, they raised more than $2 million. The group plans to use the money to air the ad in Wisconsin, Florida and Ohio this week.

“From our perspective, half a million views was pretty good for a bunch of guys on a pirate ship, doing all the work themselves,” Galen said. But now, “it’s taken on a life of its own. That’s the thing he did, frankly. He gets you from the Twitterverse to the real world. People who otherwise may not have heard of us for days, weeks, or ever now know we exist. And it benefits us.”

Trump appears unlikely to stop.

“Why is it that all of the political pundits & consultants that I beat so easily & badly, people that charged their clients far more than their services were worth, have become so totally ‘unhinged’ when it come to your favorite President, me,” Trump tweeted on Saturday. “These people are stone cold crazy!”

Of course he does. What are you thinking? He did it before he was president and he still does it now. That's why all his tweets have random capitalization, misspellings, etc. The tweets his staff writes are obvious - they're in complete sentences. (It's not many of them.) And no, I'm sure his phone isn't secure.

HE IS THE POWERS-THAT-BE. Stop deluding yourself.

by Anonymousreply 64May 11, 2020 2:50 AM

Obama commented that the Corona response was a disaster - so Trump had to nuclear firebomb everything.

by Anonymousreply 65May 11, 2020 2:54 AM

Bible Code researchers (who found Trump winning in 2016 over Hillary) have found codes (they must've told Trump by now) where the names of Hillary (twice) & Obama are linked to murder, e-mails & the Clinton foundation. Colmey is named & the word "conviction" is tied to him. The researcher tonight (in the last 30 minutes of the livestream below) said it looks like Colmey might commit suicide (based on the codes that he has found). Lots of interesting stuff in this hour plus show but no one has found who will win the 2020 election yet. This "Obamagate" scandal could be a gamechanger for Trump if it tars democrats this year. He needs something based on his current polling numbers.

[quote] People have made their decision on whom they are voting for and they aren't going to stray from it.

I think the goal isn't to convince people to vote for Trump but to make people think Biden is just as bad or even worse that Trump, the way they did with Hillary. They are using the same game plan, Trumps kids are corrupt so make Hunter Biden even more corrupt, Trump molests women so make people think Biden does the same, Trump is inept at running government make people think Biden will be the same. Make it an even game, get a little help from the Russians, suppress some of the Democratic vote. Make Democrats think their vote doesn't count or isn't worth their effort so they stay home. Trump gets reelected. I am just hoping enough don't fall for it this time.

by Anonymousreply 76May 11, 2020 2:32 PM

R76 is correct.

by Anonymousreply 77May 11, 2020 3:37 PM

I agree that R76 is correct in summarizing the game that tRump, his media enablers, and the Repukes will be playing. Their problem is that it probably won’t work this time around. A unique set of circumstances provided Cheatolini the narrowest of paths that allowed him to steal the presidency in 2016. Those circumstances simply don’t exist. Oh, Rethugs are going to use the same playbook as before because they’re not that clever and tRump is not very bright. He’ll stick with what “worked” before. He’s like a multi-ton ship — not very nimble and unable to pivot on a dime.

Drop the candidate whom 90% of the party approves/supports? Because he’s going to willingly agree to dropping out of the race? Trump is now the party. The party is now the Trump cult.

Fantasy!

I have no problem believing that something is up, because of the uptick in puff pieces about Pence. But they would never put Nikki Haley at the top of any ticket.

He got as far as "Obamagate" and then passed out with a Quarter Pounder in his hand. And some fries.

Trump has proven to the mass GOP that you can be openly racist, openly homophobic, and openly misogynistic and still be supported. He is the Republican Party now, there is not turning back.

My partner and I were talking about things, post-Trump. Hopefully that will be sooner than later, but we were specifically talking about how that fat, orange turd will be tweeting out and selling Top Secret information after he's no longer prez. Everything other GOPers have shared with him or his administration has dug up on them to maintain their compliance...he will also spew everywhere, from every loosened orifice.

I'm surprised the GOP hasnn't gotten one of their 'patriot' zombies to do something about him.

It's very plausible that over the summer, he will get the Justice Department to start prosecuting people like James Comey or Andrew McCabe or anybody he can think of (Hillary, plausibly) on whatever trumped-up charges they can think of. They will deliberately wait until the campaign is well under way.

Just be prepared for that.

I agree; I think Barr's actions towards Flynn are just the beginning; he barely bothered to make a legal case for what he did. He sees the walls closing in around Dear Leader & he'll do anything to protect him.

He just tweeted this again 3 hours ago.

Literally all Trump does is obsess over Obama. Obama is living in this assholes vacant head rent free.

by Anonymousreply 92May 14, 2020 4:31 AM

One form or another of the "Obamagate" hashtag has constantly been number one (and four of the top ten) most tweeted hashtags by identified bots and trolls on Twitter.

Disgusting.
