Official VALLEY GIRL Remake Viewing Party starring that dropped pie-faced loser Logan Paul ...

... and HAPPY DEATH DAY bright spot Jessica Rothe.

The reviews have not been kind.

Why would anyone want to be associated with Logan Paul?

by Anonymousreply 1May 10, 2020 4:06 PM

Valley Girl was and remains a very specific 'moment' and there's no way they could manage to get a better soundtrack nor half the cheesiness that makes the original impossible to replicate.

by Anonymousreply 2May 10, 2020 4:13 PM

I was mildly curious about this, but as soon I saw Logan Paul's in it ...

They've added a bunch of '80s songs from different genres than the original soundtrack had.

Madonna's "Material Girl," etc. What was cool about the original movie was that the songs were all punk or modern music. More alternapop than pop.

by Anonymousreply 4May 10, 2020 4:15 PM

OP = that dropped pie-faced loser Logan.

by Anonymousreply 5May 10, 2020 4:16 PM

Douchebrah Logan got the movie delayed 2 years. This was supposed to be out for the 25th anniversary of VALLEY GIRL.

Wonder what band they'd get for the prom...or how they'd handle the idealized Val dude as a bit of a rapist.

They should have just called it “random coming of age” movie, you can’t have Valley Girls now, It doesn’t have the meaning it did in the early 80s

by Anonymousreply 9May 10, 2020 4:24 PM

They shelved it for two years? Did they even try to get Christopher Plummer for reshoots?

OMG now they're playing Huey Lewis. SO not cool!

I tolerated Cyndi Lauper because she's cool; kind of punk. But it's not Hip to Be Square!

by Anonymousreply 12May 10, 2020 4:31 PM

Rothe sad-sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and now she's doing it to "Kids in America."

You can do one; not both!

by Anonymousreply 13May 10, 2020 4:35 PM

[quote] They should have just called it “random coming of age” movie, you can’t have Valley Girls now, It doesn’t have the meaning it did in the early 80s

Should’ve just done “VSCO Girl” and updated the story for today.

by Anonymousreply 14May 10, 2020 4:36 PM

It has a very Disney/ High School Musical feel. They're not really trying to appeal to adults.

It doesn't feel authentic or original. It's a very cartoon look.

by Anonymousreply 15May 10, 2020 4:38 PM

The punk lead's version of "You Might Think" sucks.

It's kind of a Nerfed Ramones version. I need the Cars' iconic synth notes with that song! EEEW and there's a metal guitar solo!

by Anonymousreply 16May 10, 2020 4:44 PM

Now the "punk' lead is singing Madonna's "Crazy For You!"

Would never happen in 1983; didn't happen in the original movie. The frauen have taken over the asylum.

And Logan Paul hasn't exposed his tatas yet!

by Anonymousreply 17May 10, 2020 4:50 PM

Rothe dumps Logan Paul the morning of his big tennis game and he's never even done anything douchey to her.

All he did was stick up for a friend getting punched in a fight that he didn't know how it started. I feel more sympathy for his character than the Valley Girl.

by Anonymousreply 18May 10, 2020 4:53 PM

Why is it so hard to properly capture the 80's on movie/TV?

They don't have a problem with other eras. Look at shows like Mad Men, The Wonder Years, That 70's show all manage to capture their respective era's so perfectly.

When it comes to the 80's, people think that just throwing a bunch of random 80's references from different years will suffice (The Goldberg's is the absolute worst at this). And it's ridiculous, because the early 80's were completely different from the mid 80's as well as the late 80's.

Stranger Things is supposed to do a good job of recapturing the era, actually.

by Anonymousreply 19May 10, 2020 5:08 PM

Yes, they have Halloween mask versions of Reagan and Thatcher. How droll.

by Anonymousreply 20May 10, 2020 5:21 PM

I think STRANGER THINGS does a good job without looking like a Disney musical / fake.

by Anonymousreply 21May 10, 2020 5:23 PM

They had a cool mashup of "Tainted Love" with "Just Can't Get Enough." And then they shit the bed with "Material Girl."

by Anonymousreply 22May 10, 2020 5:24 PM

R19 Glow managed to capture the 80s, wasn't as cheap looking but it was spot on.

by Anonymousreply 23May 10, 2020 5:26 PM

Leadbro is off-key on those high notes from "Take On Me." It hurts!

by Anonymousreply 24May 10, 2020 5:34 PM

Leadbro now whisper-sings "I Melt With You." I'd rather he just speak the words, if they're not going to belt it out.

Who is he, Billie Eilish?

by Anonymousreply 25May 10, 2020 5:39 PM

"Tecnhically speaking, punk is dead."

Not in 1983!! No way!

by Anonymousreply 26May 10, 2020 5:40 PM

[quote] Why is it so hard to properly capture the 80's on movie/TV?

Along with Glow and Stranger Things, Freaks & Geeks did it best.

by Anonymousreply 27May 10, 2020 5:41 PM

Geez are they still trying to make that douchebag happen?

by Anonymousreply 28May 10, 2020 5:44 PM

Punk WAS dead by then. Bands like Siouxsie & The Banshees were post-punk followed by New Wave.

Punk was thriving. Are you kidding?

The Clash, Blondie, The Cars, Talking Heads & Go Gos burning up the charts in the U.K. and U.S. The Dead Kennedys' heyday, The Misfits, Minor Threat / Fugazi.

Punk was very much alive and awesome all through the '80s. Many of the bands' best work was then.

by Anonymousreply 32May 10, 2020 7:20 PM

"post punk" is just what some artists moved on to. Plenty of punk bands remained and were just getting started in 1983.

The Dead Kennedys best stuff didn't come until later.

by Anonymousreply 33May 10, 2020 7:22 PM

Now Randy the punkbro is singing The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry."

A real punk or someone like the Nicholas Cage character wouldn't be caught dead singing The Cure or Madonna. This is a Ryan Murphy revisionist fantasy for chicks.

by Anonymousreply 34May 10, 2020 7:25 PM

It's streaming on Youtube, Amazon and Google Play, r30.

OMG SHRILL NOTES from that dropped pie-faced loser Logan!

They let him have 2 lines on "Under Pressure." He sounds constipated.

by Anonymousreply 36May 10, 2020 7:37 PM

The thing that works better in MOULIN ROUGE or MAMMA MIA is that the songs they choose tell part of the story — they actually fit what's happening in the plot.

These guys are just singing '80s songs.

by Anonymousreply 37May 10, 2020 7:45 PM

In ‘83, the West Coast punk scene was thriving, but the UK has moved on to New Wave.

by Anonymousreply 38May 10, 2020 7:49 PM

So was the NY punk scene, and Washington D.C.

by Anonymousreply 39May 10, 2020 8:16 PM

I made it to the end of the remake and I must say, it's a cream puff.

Logan Paul can't act or sing and the whole thing felt fake, shallow and Disney for children.

At least it reminded me to go back and watch the original.

BTW Logan Paul doesn't take off his clothes in VALLEY GIRL.

This quarantine is just one, big cock block with the likes of VALLEY GIRL, Ryan Murphy, OnlyFans, etc.

Show us yer tits!

[Quote] BTW Logan Paul doesn't take off his clothes in VALLEY GIRL.

That's a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 44May 12, 2020 4:35 AM

He has a hot body. I bet his schlong is big, too.

by Anonymousreply 45May 17, 2020 4:23 AM

I watched this last night. It was ok, but I don't think the musical aspect was needed. The cameos from the original Valley girls was cute. And I did chuckle at the jockstrap scene in the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2020 4:16 PM

I worked on the reshoots and seem to recall that the two females leads did not get along together- we had to film their scenes separately. The brunette who was dating LP at the time couldn't shut up her yap about him.

by Anonymousreply 47July 24, 2020 7:28 PM

r19 Call Me By Your Name did an excellent job of capturing 1983. The details were spot on.

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2020 7:39 PM

R47 I thought it was funny that Chloe wasn't in it much and shared most of her scenes with LP.

[Quote] This time around, Julie is played by Jessica Rothe (La La Land), who was about 30 at the time of filming and so isn't the most teenage-looking schoolgirl ever to hit the screen. That said, Olivia Newton-John was around 30 in Grease – and Stockard Channing some years older – and nobody would change that.

LOL at some years older
