As others fall by the wayside, Aiden Turner is looking like a better choice.

Jack Lowden, James Norton, Tom Cullen could also still slip it.

Hardy, Elba, Cavill, Hiddleston, Fassbender are probably out.

Madden, Hueghan, and all stunt casting options are non-starters now since they won't take the risk after lockdown.

Since the next Bond movie isn’t coming out until the end of the year, we won’t know until after it’s release. Insider did come back on the thread and said the announcement for Madden in the role was delayed until then. However, I do think Madden’s Marvel role took him out of the running and he’s rumored for the male lead in the Young Furiosa movie. The pandemic changed much, I’m sure.

Damien Lews at 50 is too old to carry the franchise for more than 2-3 movies. Unlike Dr. Who, frequently switching out Bonds is not something they strive to do. Also, James Norton is a ginger, so there you go.

No "probably" about it. Hardy hasn't got the looks, Elba is too old already to carry a four-film 10-year deal, Hiddleston was never in (he is, however, made for a very suave Bond villain), Cavill is a bore and getting two major franchises is just too - well too something; Fassbender is kind of past his sell date - ten years ago, maybe, not now.

James Norton - got the looks, the build, he's an intelligent actor and if you saw him in Happy Valley as the pyscho rapist, he does do "edge".

Turner is underrated as an actor (cf. his reviews in the West End last year for a sold out run of "The Lieutenant of Inishmore"), very hot, and as he's now about 38, the age Craig was when he got the gig, they should nail Turner fast before his fabled black curls start receding.

Jack Lowden, I suspect, may share Madden's issue. He's also only 30 or so and the only woman he's ever been linked with is . . . Saoirse Ronan.

Tom Cullen, however, is tall dark handsome and butch. Perfect age, 34. Irish/English background but technically Welsh.

So out off the list: Turner and Cullen are the only ones that make sense to me.

I don't see another Bond movie for awhile Since No Time to Die got moved and supposedly cost $250 before marketing. That's a lot of $$ to recover. Theatres are not going to be packing them any time soon.

It comes down to who would you pay to see. Who has "it?"

Blind items say it's a race between Henry Cavill and that other guy fangirls here rave about-- Sam Heughan (sp.).

Aiden Turner would be wonderful.

I'd pay to see Turner take a shower, never mind Bond.

I might pay to see Cullen.

I pay a penny to see any of the others.

R25 - Careful of the spelling: AidEn Turner is a former model turned actor famous for a role on All My Children, and stuff like NCIS. Far too lightweight for Bond.

The man we are talking about is AidAn Turner.

There's no reason it couldn't be a ginger like James Norton--Daniel Craig was their first blond Bond.

I also think they could have a Black Bond or a Mediterranean Bond or a Bond of Asian ancestry. But they've made clear they will not do a female Bond, which is a relief.

Sometimes Turner's acting borders on cheesy and melodramatic. Also, he seems too in love with himself to be truly likable, and isn't his hairline receding? That's not so good for Bond. Damien Lewis is a better actor, but he is getting up there in age. Maybe a fresh face would be best.

The Brits won't stand for a ginger.

R31 - Don't agree re Turner's acting, and I haven't checked his hairline recently. He does seem to have a lot of it. As for being in love with himself, he proved a good ensemble actor in "Being Human" and "And Then There Were None" and those programmmes wouldn't have worked well if he'd been OTT.

His role in Desperate Romantics called for it. And I thought him creditably restrained in Poldark by not turning the character into a swashbuckler.

I'm not suggesting he's a Great Actor - but neither was Connery (whose hairlines also rapidly receded and if reports are to be believed, thought quite a lot of himself), and Connery was the ultimate Bond.

Craig is also alleged to be a complete douche bag with a massive ego. I thought him the best Bond since Connery.

However, I get why some may not find Turner "ideal".

I think Bond needs to exude sexuality, danger, maleness (sorry about that) - in short, he fucking HAS to be an Alpha Male.

And Alphas aren't usually the salt of the earth or the best choice for domestic happiness.

You want your "license to kill" spy hero to be an Alpha Male, no argument. But straight Bond is so boring. I really hope we don't have to wait until 2030 for him to swing both ways.

I thought Bond made it clear in that scene with Javier Bardem that he DID swing both ways.

It was a baby step. We need to see Bond in a full-blown, same sex encounter.
