That wouldn’t be true. As soon as pence took over the reigns he would designate a new VP who would then take over if he died. And the cycle continues.

The only time the Speaker of the House becomes president is if both the president and Vice President die in relatively rapid succession.

Think of the JFK assassination: Johnson became President and appointed Humphrey as VP. Had Johnson died on the way back from Texas, the speaker of the house would’ve taken over.

R349, a new VP would have to be approved by the Senate AND the House. It ain’t happenin. Btw, Johnson never appointed Humphrey VP after the assassination. He was without a VP until he was inaugurated president in 1965. Humphrey was his VP nominee in the 1964 election.

So if Pence goes first, there will be no VP, and then if Trump goes, we get Pelosi?

You’re welcome, r355. Gerald Ford being appointed VP was an incredibly interesting occurrence. I believe Rachel Maddow. wrote a book about it. In essence, the powers that be saw Nixon potentially being booted, and they were very apprehensive about Agnew becoming president, so they dug up an old corruption case (swept under the rug, but Agnew was stone cold guilty), and actually maneuvered things so Agnew would get booted first. That’s what led to Ford, who was considered a good compromise.

r341 It's going to be interesting to watch how China responds to all this. One of trump's former minions said years ago what trump owes to Chinese interests makes his outstanding debt to Russia look like chump change. All those Chinese loans are due next year.

R356, IDK if she wrote a book but she did do a podcast called "Bagman" that was all about Agnew and Nixon.

Agnew was a raging asshole who thought he was untouchable. He should have gone to prison.
