Movies where the actor/movie star was literally playing themselves

Julia Roberts in Notting Hill played herself in all her glorious cuntiness.

by Anonymousreply 85June 10, 2020 4:21 PM

Julia Roberts in Oceans 12 played Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 1May 7, 2020 4:07 AM

It didn't work.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2020 4:31 AM

Jon Hamm as Don Draper. Alcoholic damaged womanizer. And he does smoke, even though he tries to hide it.

by Anonymousreply 8May 7, 2020 4:34 AM

R8 I always thought that another actor could have done so much more with the role compared to Hamm. He spent most of the show looking puzzled or blank.

by Anonymousreply 9May 7, 2020 4:36 AM

Dr. Haing S. Ngor as Dr. Haing S. Ngor in THE KILLING FIELDS.

by Anonymousreply 10May 7, 2020 4:38 AM

RDJ in Less than Zero. At the time. But now he tries to jam "I'm Ironman"down our throat. He'd the last superhero I'd call. Hell, I'd call Ant-Man first.

by Anonymousreply 11May 7, 2020 4:39 AM

Julia Roberts almost always plays Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 12May 7, 2020 4:40 AM

Judy Garland in "I Could Go On Singing".

by Anonymousreply 13May 7, 2020 4:43 AM

(R9) I agree. And his movie track record shows that. All his movies bomb. Keeps throwing in our faces that he's in Top Gun. That's Tom Cruise's movie.

by Anonymousreply 14May 7, 2020 4:43 AM

A League of Their Own - Madonna as a brassy, loudmouthed tramp

by Anonymousreply 15May 7, 2020 4:46 AM

I love Paul Rudd. But he plays at same damn character in these lame romantic comedies. The nice guy that can't catch a break. But in the end, everything works out. Mute on Netflix is the first time in a while I've seen him do something different. He's making a career on being the white privileged boring nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 16May 7, 2020 4:48 AM

G in Fatal Attraction

by Anonymousreply 17May 7, 2020 4:55 AM

Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, aka herself in almost every single role.

Jennifer Lopez as Ramona in Hustlers.

by Anonymousreply 18May 7, 2020 5:01 AM

R3 I have no love for Spacey, but You could find straight older actors doing the same thing in every other movie, so perhaps bit of a double standart there.

by Anonymousreply 28May 16, 2020 2:58 AM

R12 she was good in Closer and Erin Brockovich I thought. her mouth is unbelievably huge on screen though when she emotes and that laugh is deafening .

by Anonymousreply 29May 16, 2020 2:59 AM

R10 Dr. Haing S. Ngor played the photojournalist Dith Pran in The Killing Fields, but he also survived the horrors of the Khmer Rouge. His autobiography is excellent but harrowing.

Louise Brooks as the dancing, drinking, slutty, utterly immoral Lulu in "Pandora's Box." G. W. Pabst, the director of the film, told Brooks "Your life is exactly like Lulu's, and you will end the same way. Lula ended up getting killed by one of her tricks. Aside from that, Pabst was exactly right. Louise Brooks WAS Lulu.

by Anonymousreply 31May 16, 2020 3:06 AM

Courtney Love as Althea Flynt in "The People Vs. Larry Flynt. Althea Flynt was a bi-sexual, drug-addicted former stripper and uber-slut. And so was Courtney Love.

G in Albert Nobbs.

by Anonymousreply 33May 16, 2020 3:24 AM

I was shocked, absolutely shocked, I tell you to learn from a recent thread that Ann Jillian herself played, Ann Jillian, in The Ann Jillian Story. I swear I thought she did not survive the breast cancer and was played by TV’s Lisa Hartman in the movie of her life. So sad that she took away the opportunity for a younger, more talented actress to have a breakout role in an highly acclaimed TV movie of the week. And if Lisa was in it they could of rewritten the ending to have a death scene since Lisa’s excellent dramatic skills could have pulled it off unlike Ann.

That blonde awful actress in This Is 40. Charmless, odd looking- director’s wife.

by Anonymousreply 43May 17, 2020 9:59 PM

R42 there was a thread about people who worked with celebs a while back and I was surprised to read an anecdote about Thomas being incredibly unpleasant to work with. I would not have guessed.

by Anonymousreply 73May 25, 2020 3:29 PM
