Are there any nice and down to earth celebrities?

There's already a thread about celebs with the biggest egos so I thought I would start one about celebs that are genuinely nice. We may not get a lot of replies on this one but are there any celebs that are nice and down to earth?

by Anonymousreply 85August 26, 2020 6:05 PM

Well there are some who are not as nice as they seem:

You have a better chance of finding a unicorn or leprechaun.

by Anonymousreply 2May 5, 2020 11:10 PM

Sissy Spacek.

by Anonymousreply 3May 5, 2020 11:11 PM

Will Farrell is lovely.

by Anonymousreply 4May 5, 2020 11:11 PM

Not a single one.

by Anonymousreply 5May 5, 2020 11:14 PM

I've never heard a bad word about Kevin Bacon.

And I realize he's a right-wing nutcase and sleazeball, but James Woods is said to be very, very gracious and kind to his fans. He's an asshole to everyone else, though.

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2020 11:14 PM

Sally Struthers

by Anonymousreply 7May 5, 2020 11:15 PM

R6, Kevin and Kyra are assholes, according to DL.

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2020 11:15 PM

Laurie Anderson

by Anonymousreply 9May 5, 2020 11:15 PM

Got to interview Peter, Paul and Mary in the mid-1980s. Warm, funny, genuinely appreciative of their fans. AND politically astute. Just all-around lovely people.

by Anonymousreply 10May 5, 2020 11:16 PM

Mindy Cohn

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2020 11:17 PM

Brad Pitt seems like a down to Earth kinda guy, then there is always Dolly of course. In general, actors and male celebs, females know they are easily replaceable and fastly expiring, so alot of high strung insecure antics come with that.

by Anonymousreply 12May 5, 2020 11:17 PM

Kathy Bates is rightfully beloved. She was very sweet when I met her, and friends who had similar experiences working with her confirmed how great she is.

by Anonymousreply 13May 5, 2020 11:18 PM

I've only ever heard nice things about Shakira, and I think you'd have to be extremely nice, forgiving and even-tempered not to clash (at least publically) with uber-diva J.Lo. But who knows ...

by Anonymousreply 14May 5, 2020 11:37 PM

*publicly

by Anonymousreply 15May 5, 2020 11:39 PM

Dolly Parton

Charo

by Anonymousreply 16May 5, 2020 11:41 PM

I met Joan Rivers twice and she was shockingly sweet and kind to everyone.

by Anonymousreply 17May 5, 2020 11:52 PM

Holland Taylor was down to earth when I met her. She's like a lesbian Auntie Mame.

by Anonymousreply 18May 5, 2020 11:58 PM

Mark Ruffalo, very nice guy. I used to get my hair cut by his brother, Scott and I met him when he was coming in for a hair cut.

RIP Scott.

by Anonymousreply 19May 6, 2020 12:00 AM

According to numerous accounts, Robin Williams was a sweetheart. Also hear nice things about Dwayne Johnson.

by Anonymousreply 20May 6, 2020 12:02 AM

It's weird. The biggest, wealthiest celebrities are either super kind and down to earth, or they're stone cold bitches. No in between.

by Anonymousreply 21May 6, 2020 12:03 AM

Who is Scott, R19?

by Anonymousreply 22May 6, 2020 12:24 AM

Doris Day was always completely unaffected and down to earth. I visited her dozens of times, both in Beverly Hills and later in Carmel.

Her favorite mode of transport was her bike and she would bicycle all over Beverly Hills, dining in unpretentious places like Nate n' Al's Deli and the Hamburger Hamlet. I never saw her refuse to sign her autograph and stop to listen to someone thank her for either her work in the entertainment industry or her work on behalf of animals.

One time a bus filled with tourists seeing the stars' homes, slowed down in front of her North Crescent Drive home while the driver told the busload that Doris Day lived there. Seeing how excited everyone was (this was in 1980), she walked down her driveway to the front gate and spent twenty minutes chatting with the tourists, posing for photos and being completely gracious to everyone. Afterwards she commented to me, "At least when they return home they can tell their family and friends that they saw one celebrity....."

by Anonymousreply 23May 6, 2020 12:32 AM

Vanessa Williams is supposedly super laid back. She somehow navigated the minefield that was the Desperate Housewives set so I’d buy it.

by Anonymousreply 24May 6, 2020 12:37 AM

Mayim Bialik

by Anonymousreply 25May 6, 2020 12:39 AM

R23, which Doris Day?

by Anonymousreply 26May 6, 2020 12:45 AM

Vera and Taissa Farmiga, Annabelle Wallis, Stephen Colbert, Dwayne Johnson, Patrick Wilson. All are great to work with.

by Anonymousreply 27May 6, 2020 12:46 AM

I can personally vouch that Ian McKellen and Angela Lansbury are both extremely nice people.

by Anonymousreply 28May 6, 2020 12:52 AM

Bryan Batt is about as down-to-earth as you can get.

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2020 12:54 AM

Hugh Jackman, Keanu Reeves

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2020 12:57 AM

R22 I should have Scott his brother.

Scott was murdered about 7 years ago - Mark took a year off to deal with his loss.

Scott was a great guy - he did have some demons, though.

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2020 1:06 AM

Forgot this story until now: I worked at a TV studio in DC in the 90s. Pat Buchanan was the nicest, friendliest, funniest guy - we young liberals would all freak out over that.

by Anonymousreply 32May 6, 2020 1:26 AM

Faye Dunaway immediately comes to mind.

by Anonymousreply 33May 6, 2020 1:31 AM

Joaquin Phoenix was consistently a great tipper and very polite.

by Anonymousreply 34May 6, 2020 1:37 AM

You'd never know Conan O'Brien was a celebrity when you meet him. A wonderful man.

by Anonymousreply 35May 6, 2020 1:52 AM

Cher, super sweet, graciius, always prompting a hug or arm around shoulder.

by Anonymousreply 36May 6, 2020 3:22 AM

Does Seth Meyers count

by Anonymousreply 37May 6, 2020 3:24 AM

Steve Buscemi and Brooke Shields.

by Anonymousreply 38May 6, 2020 3:34 AM

R32 I read some anecdote from someone who used to work at the McLaughlin show and supposedly Chris Matthews and McLaughlin were incredibly crude, innapropriate, and nasty and Buchanan would constantly be apologizing for their behavior. Grain of salt of course.

by Anonymousreply 39May 6, 2020 3:44 AM

[quote]You'd never know Conan O'Brien was a celebrity when you meet him.

Nor when you watched him, dear.

by Anonymousreply 40May 6, 2020 6:23 AM

Jason Momoa. My friend worked at the movie set. He invited my friend to go climbing

by Anonymousreply 41May 6, 2020 9:02 AM

Linda Gray.

by Anonymousreply 42May 6, 2020 9:55 AM

I’ve met Mark Ruffalo — he’s super cool and chill.

by Anonymousreply 43May 6, 2020 10:02 AM

Patrick Swayze

by Anonymousreply 44May 6, 2020 10:21 AM

R44 I found that Unintentionally funny 😂

by Anonymousreply 45May 6, 2020 10:27 AM

Bonnie Raitt, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, Kate b-52. The young ones are in bubbles.

Kevin and Kyra were very pleasant.

by Anonymousreply 46May 6, 2020 10:37 AM

Kevin and Kyra were humbled by losing their money. Keanu is a sweetie. Trey Parker is very nice and very generous. Never met Matt Stone.

by Anonymousreply 47May 6, 2020 10:49 AM

I’m very down to earth. Ain’t nothing going to be able lift me off it anytime soon!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 48May 6, 2020 10:50 AM

R13, that's not a universal experience, it seems. A friend of mine was an extra an AHS Coven and she mentioned that Kathy Bates was a kind of a bitch. Not a raging nightmare, but someone to be left alone. Don't know if it was just a bad run 🤷‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 49May 6, 2020 11:06 AM

r32, did you work at NBC in Tenleytown?? I did. Buchanan always wanted a can of Coke....

by Anonymousreply 50May 6, 2020 11:16 AM

Keith Richards. What you see is what you get.

by Anonymousreply 51May 6, 2020 11:16 AM

r49....wasnt that the time period when she was going through cancer treatments ? I would want to be left alone too.

by Anonymousreply 52May 6, 2020 11:25 AM

It was a bit before that, but she did have continuing issues afterward, I see. That could well be it.

by Anonymousreply 53May 6, 2020 11:29 AM

Carol Burnett. I once wrote her a letter inviting her to a a gala fundraiser for a theater I was involved with. She called me on the phone on a Sunday afternoon and we had an lovely talk. It was like taking with a friend.

by Anonymousreply 54May 6, 2020 11:34 AM

Bonnie Hunt and Sandra Bullock are as kind, sweet and funny as they seem.

Michael Gross (aka: the dad on "Family Ties") is likewise just as warm and friendly as his TV alter ego.

by Anonymousreply 55May 6, 2020 12:12 PM

R55 then why did Sandy marry a nazi?

by Anonymousreply 56May 6, 2020 1:17 PM

Yes I forgot about Sandy. She's also lovely to work with, and brings some of her rescue doggies (one is missing a limb or two) with her to work. As a lowly crew member, we're not supposed to talk to talent unless we really need to, and she doesn't care a whit.

by Anonymousreply 57May 6, 2020 2:49 PM

Adam Lambert. I’ve met him three times since 2009. Relaxed. Genuine smile. No drama. He was as gracious the last time I met him as he was the first time.

by Anonymousreply 58May 6, 2020 3:03 PM

Former hookup of mine worked in movies, said his 3 favorite Hollywood actors were 1) Keanu, 2) Cameron Diaz, and 3) ScarJo

by Anonymousreply 59May 7, 2020 2:15 AM

I think i read somewhere it was leaked that Keanu gave millions of dollars to co-workers an charities and he did it without publicizing it, for many years. Very nice guy apparently.

by Anonymousreply 60May 7, 2020 2:21 AM

Joanna Newsmo and Andy Samberg

by Anonymousreply 61May 7, 2020 2:46 AM

R50

No, it wasn’t an “actual” station. It was a production company in Dupont where live interviews were shot. I said TV station to make it easier. Interface Media Group. The founder was Tom Angell and he was also very nice.

by Anonymousreply 62May 7, 2020 3:15 AM

R50 Ahhhh, yes! He always wanted a coke! What was that Mexican restaurant up there? I used to see Tim Russert order take out.

by Anonymousreply 63May 7, 2020 3:19 AM

Keanu is very sweet. I think he's been able to stay that way. Because he is not self involved in Hollywood. It's a job. You rarely see him at those parties. Everybody kissing each other's ass. I just adore him.

by Anonymousreply 64May 7, 2020 3:20 AM

I know Mary Steenburgen through family. She's a complete doll and so is her husband.

by Anonymousreply 65May 7, 2020 4:10 AM

David Tennant, famously so.

by Anonymousreply 66May 7, 2020 4:16 AM

Tori Amos

Patti Smith

Britney Spears was very sweet when I met her, but that was in a Meet & Greet so maybe not a fully accurate view.

Cody Rhodes the pro wrestler is a super-nice guy

by Anonymousreply 67May 7, 2020 4:20 AM

I want to sat Valerie Bertinelli but I only know her from Hot in Cleveland and her cooking show. She does seem like a whiney clinger type gal though but genuinely seems nice and not too uppity. Oh, and her husband is hot.

by Anonymousreply 68May 7, 2020 4:25 AM

Ian McKellen is a decent guy.

by Anonymousreply 69May 7, 2020 4:35 AM

Jodie Foster

by Anonymousreply 70May 7, 2020 4:36 AM

I met Bonnie Aaron in The Nun. She's been in some other movies. One with Christian Bale. She was the sweetest lady I think I've ever met. Her husband was very kind too. Signed a nun poster for me.

by Anonymousreply 71May 7, 2020 4:53 AM

I’ll second Joan Rivers. She was nice to me, a nobody at the time, when she didn’t have to be.

Ricardo Montalban

Cassandra Petersen, gorgeous and nice.

by Anonymousreply 72May 7, 2020 5:38 AM

Apparently Kathy Bates lost quite a bit of her hearing when she had chemo for her cancer. Although she now wears hearing aids, she often gets frustrated when she can’t hear people clearly. People on set would have to yell when communicating with her. Maybe this could be interpreted as being difficult when it is simply frustration on her part. This was told to me by a friend who worked with her. He said otherwise she was very professional and down to earth.

by Anonymousreply 73May 7, 2020 6:05 AM

Kelly Clarkson.

by Anonymousreply 74May 7, 2020 6:06 AM

Molly Shannon

by Anonymousreply 75May 7, 2020 6:24 AM

Gwyneth Paltrow is always pleasant to her inferiors.

by Anonymousreply 76May 7, 2020 6:33 AM

Gweneth doesn't appreciate the "true" status of actors outing their true to life and most horrid interiors. so she hired me to fuck after anyone who remotely "challenged" any threat to a readily verifiable and reputable conclusion for obvious people. It happened every day.

by Anonymousreply 77May 7, 2020 6:52 AM

[quote]Molly Shannon

I have heard that Molly Shannon is sweet and grateful and immediately tries to turn the conversation back to the person who complimented her, asking their name and acting like no one has ever recognized her before.

by Anonymousreply 78May 7, 2020 6:58 AM

Delroy Lindo, Sean Austin

by Anonymousreply 79May 7, 2020 7:15 AM

I know a few people who have worked minor jobs on sets, and they all swear that Matt Bomer is the nicest person in the world.

by Anonymousreply 80August 26, 2020 3:46 PM

I’ll third Joan Rivers and second Hugh Jackman.

by Anonymousreply 81August 26, 2020 4:08 PM

Brooke Shields- My mother went to a party (on Long Island when she was in HS) and Brooke and her snooty friend Lisa something (an actress that did not get too far- few movies) were there. My mother was sitting at a table waiting to use bathroom and Brooke sat down. They started talking (my mother was freaked of course). She said Brooke was super nice, and she was at the height of her fame at the time (it was back in the 80s). Her friend walked over and was a bitch and looked at my mother as if she had a nerve talking to Brooke. She told Brooke she wanted to leave. Brooke was really nice and said nice talking to you have a great time...my mom has loved her since. Just a really nice person.

Lourdes Leon - I posted elswehere on this site when ppl were trashing her. My sister went to school w her. Super nice person.

by Anonymousreply 82August 26, 2020 4:21 PM

R78 I met Molly once and she was as sweet as pie.

Otoh I knew a man who had sang with Peter Paul and Mary back in the 60s, toured with them,.He said Mary Travers was a nightmare of a bitch. Also I forget if it was Peter or Paul but one of them used to have 12, 13 yr old girls in his bed.

by Anonymousreply 83August 26, 2020 5:55 PM

Taylor Swift

by Anonymousreply 84August 26, 2020 5:55 PM

It just seems that so many rock stars back in the day used to fuck underage boys R83. Why do they do that?

I mean some 16 or 17 year olds kind of look cute, but why would you want to fuck 'em? They won't be good in bed anyway.
