Decorating: Do Finishes On Mailbox And Outdoor Light Have To Match?

I swapped out my badly tarnished mailbox and light for ones with bronze finishes.

The problem? The finishes don’t match. The lantern is the typical oil rubbed bronze, but the mailbox finish is a lighter bronze. Should I just let it go? Or should I spray paint the mailbox so it matches the lantern?

Do they blend? If so, no probably. Doesn't have to be matchy-matchy, does it?

by Anonymousreply 2May 3, 2020 4:23 PM

Leave it out for a year. It won't be the same color andway. The finishes on all of this stuff are shit.

by Anonymousreply 3May 3, 2020 4:30 PM

yeah , matchy-matchy is not necessary, rarely ever.

by Anonymousreply 4May 3, 2020 4:33 PM

Do they have to match? Only if it matters to you. The finishes are close enough that in a year, like others have said, they will look the same

by Anonymousreply 5May 3, 2020 4:42 PM

No it’s fine! The mailbox is darker than the sconces but the undertone is the same so they work well together.

by Anonymousreply 6May 3, 2020 4:53 PM

Yes, matching is a must.

And I thought [italic]I[/italic] had problems...

R9, I hear you, but I’ve run out of snacks and needed something to keep me busy.

OP, is that mailbox affixed to your front door? Does your mailman (USPS) drop mail into that box?

(I'm assuming you live in a suburb-type area. Usually, people have a mailbox on a post close to the road.)

I think it's a close-enough match to your light fixture.

"Usually, people have a mailbox on a post close to the road."

Do you live on a farm, R12? Does your street have a name, or a number?

by Anonymousreply 13May 4, 2020 3:08 AM

My street has a name, "Highway", I know it sounds fancy, but we're just plain folks here

by Anonymousreply 14May 4, 2020 3:47 AM

R12, the mailbox and the light are both to the left of my front door, a couple feet apart.

If you live in Celebration, Florida, please report directly to the community standards jail as you are in direct violation of your housing agreement.

OP!
