Songs that will never not make you think of a specific movie (and which movie)

My 2:

Goodbye Horses and

Tom Petty's American Girl

-The Silence of the Lambs

by Anonymousreply 249May 17, 2020 5:38 PM

Good topic OP! I have a couple:

Kissing You by Des'ree - Romeo and Juliet

Gloria by Laura Branigan - Flash Dance

by Anonymousreply 1May 1, 2020 1:12 AM

I am kicking myself for not specifying it shouldn't be the movie's theme song like, Footloose and well, Footloose :) or the Bond songs specifically written for the movie

by Anonymousreply 4May 1, 2020 1:33 AM

"At This Moment" = Family Ties

Not a movie, but it's the most indelible song/production link I have.

by Anonymousreply 5May 1, 2020 1:35 AM

Rainbow/Oz

by Anonymousreply 6May 1, 2020 1:35 AM

I'm glad you stipulated that rescue-chick. I was gonna include Flash Dance what a feeling in my post, but figured that would be way too obvious, lol.

by Anonymousreply 7May 1, 2020 1:47 AM

Rock Around the Clock (American Graffiti)

C'è la luna mezzo mare (The Godfather)

She Loves You (A Hard Day's Night)

Don't Leave Me this Way (Looking for Mr. Goodbar)

Disco Inferno (Saturday Night Fever)

In Your Eyes (Say Anything)

Be My Baby (Mean Street)

by Anonymousreply 8May 1, 2020 1:48 AM

^^ meant Mean Streets ^^

by Anonymousreply 9May 1, 2020 1:49 AM

And I've had...

the time of my life...

no I've never felt like this before...

-Dirty Dancing

by Anonymousreply 10May 1, 2020 1:50 AM

Do you mean the Ronettes version of Be My Baby R8,? 'Cause if so, that song makes me think of Dirty Dancing

by Anonymousreply 11May 1, 2020 1:51 AM

The Man That Got Away/A Star Is Born

by Anonymousreply 12May 1, 2020 1:52 AM

As Time Goes By/Casablanca

by Anonymousreply 13May 1, 2020 1:53 AM

Yes, R11 - but I'm most likely older than you and I saw Mean Streets on cable in the early '80s.

Anyway, in a "serious" music vein, I'd like to add Ride of the Valkyries (Apocalypse, Now) to my R8 list.

by Anonymousreply 14May 1, 2020 1:54 AM

Do You Know The Way To San Jose/My Best Friend's Wedding

I Will Always Love You/The Bodyguard

Lady Marmalade/Moulin Rouge

by Anonymousreply 15May 1, 2020 2:07 AM

ok, someone has to say it-

My heart will go on by Celine Dion

-Titanic

by Anonymousreply 16May 1, 2020 2:12 AM

Someone mentioned family Ties earlier.. The Beatles' In My Life makes me think of that show. I think Elyse Keaton sings it in an episode and it was my first time hearing that song when I was a kid.

Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds -The Breakfast Club

A few more:

You Sexy Thing (The Full Monty)

O-o-h Child (Crooklyn)

Sabotage (Star Trek Beyond)

Space Age Love Song (the fabulously underrated Spanish-language gay film End of the Century)

and most especially Love for Life (Trainspotting)

And BTW, I specifically picked songs that weren't written for any of those films, but I now can't separate those songs from the movies because they were so effectively used in them.

Wind beneath my Wings

-Beaches

Eye of the Tiger

-Rocky 3

Boy, how the hell did I confuse "Love" for "Lust" in the Iggy Pop song I mentioned @ R19.

by Anonymousreply 21May 1, 2020 2:24 AM

R19, you just reminded me that Ooh Child instantly draws me back to that scene in Boyz N Tha Hood when Doughboy and his friend get arrested.

by Anonymousreply 37May 2, 2020 5:32 AM

The song Wild Horses in Camp, sung by Daniel Latterle at the height of his twinkness. I like how much the room comes alive and his earnestness and pride in performing it grows. I really had not known the song prior to seeing it here, unlike the show tunes, and at first though it might be his own like Paul McCrane’s song in Fame.

R173 Wow, even with that cheesy mustache Matt Dillon looks so handsome, as did that sexy football player.

by Anonymousreply 179May 9, 2020 3:58 AM

That's a good one R174! I haven't listened to Adagio for Strings in years but whenever I hear it, I automatically think of Platoon and Willem Dafoe's character. A high school teacher of mine once told me that Adagio was playing during the news broadcast after Walter Kronkite announced President Kennedy's death. This music is very, very mournful.

Kokomo makes me think of Cocktail and this scene from the show Scrubs when Turk says that he wants to go to Kokomo for his honeymoon and his fiancé, Carla, tells him, again, that it’s not a real place.

Doesn’t sound funny here, but it was funny on the show.

by Anonymousreply 196May 10, 2020 6:13 AM

Yes, R50! Also from Muriel’s Wedding: Waterloo, which Muriel and Rhonda lip sync to in the talent contest.

Another one (a little obscure?): One Way Or Another, heard during the bus joyriding scene in Little Darlings.

Raspberry Beret and the .Purple Rain Soundtrack don't remind me of a movie ( besides Purple Rain)but take me back to my final years in college. I was a cheerleader at my university, had moved out of the Fraternity house to my own efficiency piece of shit apt and worked at a liquor store in our downtown area. I was the happiest I'd ever been in my entire life or have been since.
