I have degenerative arthritis, bone spurs and also narrowing and pressure on cervical nerves in my spine. It's a chronic condition with acute phases of extreme pain that is only resolved with PT and chiropractor visits, and usually a round or two of high dose steroids. Not throwing a pity party here, but the acute phases are usually brought on by bad sleeping positions and pillows - I've probably tried a hundred pillows over the years and finally landed on one from amazon. It provides comfort and stability, however the downside is it's really more of a clinical comfort, that is, there's no fluffy, comfy, snuggly feeling. Anyway, it's kind of you to do this for your friend.
